The best players dont usually equal the best captains, the AA team is made up from the best players.. So anyway, Adam Goodes would be the closest at being best at both.

What has Judd done by way of leadership compared to Ablett?

You could easily reverse this question. I think GAJ's captaincy has been overrated tbh. His performances were generally great, but I didn't see anything outstanding in terms of leadership. People talk about captaining a young team as though it's the toughest gig of all and in some ways it might be; but I reckon as a captain, an experienced side with high expectations demands better leadership than inexperienced younger team with low expectations. I just loved watching Cameron Ling the other night lay it out to the Cats with every senior player hanging on his every word. Personally, I think it will take a couple of years to truly assess GAJ's captaincy.

I wouldn't even have Glass or Boyd in the team, let alone as captain.

Ablett is the clear choice here, with Judd as vice captain.

Your real name must be Chris Dawes after that go at Glass. Unluckily for you he was in the team on Saturday.

Haha when Judd won the Brownlow, everyone here was saying its the Player's Association Award that counts and means for more - now that he was chosen best Captain by them watch everyone find a way to dismiss that somehow

This.

It doesn't matter how well judd plays in a given year there's always 'unbiased' anonymous armchair 'experts' trying to drag him down.

If Goodesy actually tackled anywhere near as much as judd (even though it's central to their game plan and why the sydney MC don't rate him as highly), and played with a similar consistency to ablett, pendles, judd, boyd etc. then u could compare him.

Agree with whoever said Betts. His leadership is underrated:thumbsu:

Would be very ironic. Last season Hodge was AA captain while not being captain of his own club. Now if Mitchell did it since Hodge took over as Hawthorn captain....

I don't see it happening. From memory, the years when an AA captain is selected who is not their club captain, it is because there weren't any club captains who were walk up starts in the team. For example, last year, I think Judd was the only skipper to make the team (on the bench), but his selection raised a few eyebrows at the time, so two vice captains (Hodge and Ablett) were given the honours. I admit, the selections of Brad Johnson in 2006 and Andrew McLeod in 2007 seem a bit curious, but with McLeod, I think all his competition (Johnson, Pavlich, Brown) for the captaincy were in their first year as skipper for their clubs, so it is a bit more understandable. No idea in retrospect why Johnson got the nod in 2006, ahead of Judd or Hall.

In 2011, several captains who have had outstanding years are automatic selections in the team, including two absolute standouts (Judd and Ablett).

Players think Judd ..but what would those muppetts know ..big footy pundits know better.

Players don't pick the All-Australian team.

Imagine a starting team full of supreme athletes, mindblowing speed and endurance and awe-inspiring array of skill and imagination.

The template for the team is a fluid 4-3-3 formation. I've picked two rock solid centre halfs with two versatile fullbacks.
In the midfield we have two absolute box-to-box powerhouses with the ability to win the ball and create. In the no.10 role, a magician
of the highest order assumes responsibility. Up front we are led by an old fashioned centre forward flanked by two delightfuly gifted exponents of the skillful game.

You may say I am a dreamer. But I'm not the only one. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you, the AFL Socceroo 11 Dreamteam. That's right, this is the best possible team the AFL can dish up. And my word, what a sight to behold!

Honestly if you go through the structure on how the aflpa awards are voted for i think they are the biggest waste of time of any of the awards. The only award i lend any real weight to is the coaches awards.
