Can't work this guy out. In the same match - one moment brilliant, only to be followed by total brain farts, then brilliant again.

If only we could send him to the bench for the brain farts.

smooth operator. outstanding all year, just not as good as enright so judged harshly. i would love him to pass it to me, lace out and perfect weight.

His outside foot pass was that was highlighted was about a one in twenty

He needs to K I S S, like SJ, make the right decision not the most impressive one.

Haven't a bloody clue who Jekyll is, or Hyde for that matter. But what i do know is that Andrew Mackie played a very nice game last night. That outside of the foot pass was sublime, also enjoyed the 2 contested marks he toook on the half back line in the space of about a minute. Hasn't had a great start to the year, but over the past couple of weeks i have just got the impression he is starting to rediscover his best form. Starting to show some good signs.

He is so inconsistent, and again last night.

I wouldn't pick him when everyone is fully fit, but I'll back the coaches in to continue working on it, because they know what they're doing.

Mackie is an habitual slow start to seasons. Has been poor at times but is getting better every game.
I think we can expect some really good form from here on end.
We must all remember that he always plays well in big games and finals.that is priceless. When he's hot the whole side is the better for it. Creates lots of scoring opportunities with his run and long raking kicks (most times...lol)

i reckon he doesnt really care too much against the lower sides but picks up for the top sides, mans up more and is more accountable. is more of a floater against lower sides.

I was adamant he needed to be dropped a few weeks back but since the Carlton loss I think he has been better. Was really good Friday I thought.

Agreed, i had a tough time convincing a non cats supporter that Mackie, whilst talented, can also be frustrating to watch. Then of course he comes out an plays well against the Pies making me look stupid. Once again, thanks Mackie:)

Do we have some of the dummest supporters or what?
Mackie's been an integral part of our backline throughout the greatest era of the GFC and he's got the gaul to cast a shadow over his contribution ????????????
I carn't believe this guy!!!
Seriously, have a look at his recent contributions of around 30 possessions and say you're sorry, for goodnessake!!!!!!!!

Excellent player but has some shocking habits such as waiting for the ball to bounce up to waist height before he can be bothered collecting it.

Also has a strange handballing technique that tends to fall short on his teammates and produce plenty of half-volleys. Worst of which came in 08 GF which lead to turnover and goal in the 3rd quarter which kind of killed our chances in that game

Style is important to him, and looking good on the field, but sometimes this little bit of vanity leads to mistakes

Sorry mate, but that is a statement that I'd retract.

Mackie has been terrible thus far, especially during Scarlett's time off. Has turned it over a lot and lacked a lot of confidence. Likewise, seemed to loose his feet far too often over the first 6 games and just wasn't the same player from last year.

This. Looked a bit lost too this year in the absence of Scarlett, but since Scarlett's return Mackie is starting to settle (and improve).

Think he cops some unfair amounts of flak. Despite keeping Brad Johnson to respectable totals in last year's QF, everybody laid into him for one passage of play where he slipped over and Johnson goaled. Nobody wanted to acknowledge that he'd lost his boot in a contest and there hadn't been a break in the play to put it back on.

I can't pinpoint why, but I think Mackie's biggest issue is that - no matter how minor the error - when he makes a mistake it looks like the world's biggest clanger. I sort of attribute it to his laid-back on-field demeanour: if he tries something that doesn't come off, it looks like it was a half-hearted attempt in the first place and he wasn't concentrating.

However, I'll have a fit and focused Mackie in my backline whenever I can, and if that means taking awkward-clanger-Mackie every so often then I'll wear it. :thumbsu:

Mackie passes my how good are they test.
Would he be in the best 22 of every other team in the AFL?

It's why our midfield is so highly regarded, every one of them pass that test.

Ever taken a grammar test??

Mackie's ball use has been terrible. Without that, and the the ability to run into space on the offence, he's pretty useless. Without doubt the worst contested player in the team, mainly due to his height/weight = high centre of gravity. Gets pushed to the side so easily, while going to ground more often than not. Doesn't chase well either... isn't quick but I question his intensity often as far as chase/tackle and 2nd effort goes.

It seems as though he is living in Scarlett's shadow... not a bad shadow? Form greatly improved since he came back. But stand alone I don't rate him that high. To say that he's good enough(stand alone) to make the 22 of any team in the league... hmm, I don't know about that. He squibbed 2 crucial contests towards the end of the Fremantle game, and has done that for years without being criticised.

It's a good one to know: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strange_Case_of_Dr_Jekyll_and_Mr_Hyde

The work is known for its vivid portrayal of a split personality, split in the sense that within the same person there is both an apparently good and an evil personality each being quite distinct from the other.

Good analogy too. Sometimes Mackie's seemingly casual character and approach to what he does nearly makes me shit myself with frustration :D.

I would definitely not say he's had an outstanding season, he runs hot and cold.
