Due to repeated head injuries.

Solid career, premiership player.
Should have joined us though

Shame his last act on the footy field is suffering a concussion due to an avoidable act from Maynard.

Statement on behalf of AFL EGM Football Laura Kane

The AFL supports the decision by Angus Brayshaw to retire from the game today.

Angus’ health and wellbeing is of the upmost importance and his decision, made in consultation with his medical team, is one more courageous act that Angus consistently demonstrated throughout his decorated career across 167 games.

Angus’ contribution to footy on the field is well documented and we look forward to his continued contribution to our game off the field in the coming years.

We wish Angus, Danielle, and their families all the very best, and applaud Angus’ leadership in making this decision for himself, his family and his club.

rough for him, this wasn't his choice. Doctors basically told him he had no choice but to retire.

was a gun.

how Maynard wasn't suspended for it was pretty amazing.

Melbourne keen to keep him around in non playing capacity. Thats good news.

That sucks, a very good footballer forced into early retirement.

No doubt people will bay for Maynard's head over this, but Brayshaw was someone that would have got concussed for something else eventually. Unfortunately those people with concussion histories just seem to cop it worse and worse.

Same as Murphy at the Pies, he is also someone that needs to retire before he gets ****ed up for life.

Time to sue the AFL Now letting Maynard off will cost them big, the AFL showed a complete lack of care

"Your feet leave the ground it's your responsibility and you take the risk"....................."unless your team is in the Grand final next week"

Unfortunately it was the tribunal that let him off. The AFL tried what they could to suspend him.

Perhaps the tribunal now goes in the bin and there's no grey areas for suspensions anymore.

You knock a bloke out, you get suspended.

Maynards bump was within the rules, lets not make this thread about him.

Unfortunate for Brayshaw and a big loss for the Dees. Hopefully there are no lingering effects.

nah it wasn't.

His feet left the ground and made contact to another player's head.

Bumps are also in the rules, but again if your feet leave the ground and you hit someone else's head, you cop the ban. Intent is irrelevant.

lets be clear and honest if that hit happens round 2, Maynard serves a suspension, grand final week different result. let's not pretend otherwise.

Good player and seemed like a good guy as well. Very sad to see a career end this way, but props to him for making a really mature decision for the next 50 years of his life he has ahead of him.

Liked him as a player.

He has his whole life to lead post football so it sounds like he made the right call.

The AFL Can overrule if they want they did it with Toby green when he touched an umpire, they chose not to appeal so now they should pay the price

he didn't make the call. Thats the sad thing.

the Doctors told him he had no choice but to, following a brain scan.

They can't over-rule, they can appeal.

Congratulations to everyone avoiding acknowledgment of a high quality career cut short and instead focusing on Maynard. Idiocy.
Given how Maynard's act likely contributed to Angus's decision to retire, it's a perfectly reasonable stance to take.

You honestly recon if an interstate player had done exactly the same to someone like Daicos in round 10 they get anything less than suspended for a month ?

Very smart decision. Too many footballers ignore obvious signs from their body and push on. There’s much more to life than sport, and many of them don’t seem to get that, perhaps as it’s all they’ve ever known since they were children.

He’s been well advised and made a wise decision that he’ll thank himself for later.

Will always be grateful for his brave mark and goal in the 2021 granny. Shame on Collingwood fans for cheering and singing the song when he was being stretchered off concussed due to a cowardly hit by Maynard. Embarrassing behaviour by their fans that won't be forgotten.
That mark and goal in the 21 grand final really kick started that rush of goals which won the flag

Perhaps we just acknowledge the career of a good player + person who has sadly been forced to retire, rather than kicking off another parochial shitfight?
