Every club should find a partner and play at the same time on ANZAC day, it's the only reasonable solution.

Your club has an ANZAC partner....Mine.

The ANZAC Eve game this year was attended by a zillion fans and will be heavily attended in future unless Richmond regress into the basement and or Melbourne do likewise.

Let Collingwood and Essendon do their thng. We'll do ours and let all the johnny come latelies go cry.

This.

... It was Sheedys & Essendons idea...

blah blah blah SHEEDY blah blah blah

Amused how you leave out the part where your second messiah trashes your brand so badly you end up with your best team suspended for a year and your reputation completely in the toilet.

The only reason to exclude you murky lot from ANZAC Day is that your values are now incompatible with anything so lofty.

Or have you changed?

Totally compatible.

Some continental European power known to store Nazi gold set up some kangaroo court applying unAustralian legal principles to suspend the players.

The fact that the other 17 clubs stood by and did nothing and let their countrymen be sacrificed to the central powers tells me only Essendon should be allowed to play on ANZAC Day and all other clubs banned.

Stick it! It was a tradition that sheedy and Essendon brought back & the dream time game was their idea.

Get over your little man syndrome, & just face the fact that your teams future is in tassie. If any other team wants a marque game, go and come up with their own idea instead of sponging of others

We've played ANZAC day in Canberra, I would have no problem with it being a regular fixture. It's as good a prediction of two contending clubs as you can make for the next few years anyway.
Getting the G could.be a problem for you

I've said it before, but there can easily be 9 games on Anzac Day if the clubs wanted it. Well, 8 games, as Melb and Rich seem pretty wedded to the night before.

It'd take sacrifice in the TV area but if they wanted it, they get it.

For eg

1 night before (Melb v Rich)
1 earlier start in Tassie (say 1:30pm, Haw v NM)
1 at the MCG (Coll v Ess)
1 at Geelong (Geel v Dogs)
1 at the SCG (Syd v GWS)
1 twilight in Adelaide (Port v Adel)
1 twilight in Brisbane (Bris v GC)
1 night game at Etihad (Carl v St K)
1 night game afterwards in Perth - the first "night double header". (WC v Freo)

Scheduled for no travel, as the round often falls midweek.

If they really wanted to, they could. They just don't feel that strongly about it.

I think ANZAC Day ought to be the two teams that will play off in the next GF. Cos let's face it, anything else is living in the past. And that's not what ANZAC Day is about.

It should be the two "dynasties" that BigFooty think will begin in 5 years time, not some mugs trying to win a single flag this year.

Is this an extra round or would it just replace the round due for the weekend before or after?

Make Anzac Day Eve a match to qualify to play in the Anzac Day match, then rotate according to who wins and lose, with the previous years premier getting the last spot.

Eg.
Anzac Day Eve 2017
Richmond (win) Vs Melbourne

Anzac Day 2017
Essendon (Win) Vs Collingwood

Anzac Day Eve 2018
Collingwood Vs Premier 2017 (Win)

Anzac Day 2018
Essendon Vs Richmond (win)

Anzac Day Eve 2019
Essendon Vs Premier 2018

Anzac Day 2019
Richmond Vs Premier 2017

In the result of a premier already having entry into one of the Anzac Day matches, the runner up would get entry.

Teams play the fixtures at the largest venue in the state of the home team.

Would create a finals like experience during the season

Or you could just leave it as it is. It's not Essendon or Collingwood's fault that your clubs were too stupid to realise the potential of playing on ANZAC day.

Anzac Day football was first played in the VFL in 1960. 2 games were played - Fitzroy v Carlton, and Melbourne v St Kilda, Maybe we should play one of those again......................

Anzac day footy was played regularly from then on whenever Anzac day fell on a day from Thursday to Monday (not Sundays). If it was a saturday (like 1964) the entire round was played. From 1972, they played every Anzac Day (except if Apr 25 was a Sunday). In 1987, there started to be regular Sunday games in Melbourne. 1993 there were 2 Anzac Day games played in Melbourne on the Sunday, (and one at the Gabba).

In 1994, Richmond played St Kilda on Anzac Day - the 117th VFL/AFL game played on Anzac Day in history. in 1995, Collingwood and Essendon 'invented' Anzac Day Football.

Do whatever you like. Anzac Day is NOT a sacred football day.

Melbourne /Richmond Anzac eve game will get more in 2018......Pies biggest club in Australia? Could they get 95k v GWS at the g? Leave Anzac Day as it is - Pies have to have something to hold on to in these dark times.
