I heard some interisting news the other night which I thought I might share.

I was at a relatives birthday who is a director at a well known property development company.
During my conversation with her she mentioned to me that she was down at Arden st watching the Roos train.
Knowing she doesn't follow the Roos I asked her why she was there.

She told me the reason was that her company are looking into developing Arden st into an upmarket residential village.
I asked whether or not North are involved,She repied with "Talks are continuing"..

I hope something doe's come up,But I ain't holding my breath....

That could mean anything from us moving to Optus Oval and them wanting the land we currently lease; or them going to spend money ala Mirvac at Waverly, and build residential aswell as putting some $$$ into our renovations at the same time.

Who knows, there is probably a million ideas being floated around at the moment, considering the prime location Arden street is to the city. Will wait until i see it with my own eyes, and see the cups in their trophy cabinet.

Interesting rumour Thumping. There was similar chat a few years ago with the talk being that North would build an apartment development where the covered area is behind the grandstand, or pull down the Social Club building and redevlop, or both.
The concept had North in partnership with the council and the profits from the apartments being ploughed into redeveloping Arden St.
Intreresting concept but I can't believe the Melbourne City Council would allow public parkland to be developed that way - the greenies would have their balls for breakfast and we all know how powerful that lobby group can be.
Still it is a very interesting concept.

If it happens, it won't be long before the new NIMBY residents start demanding that our footy club move elsewhere.

We'll end up training at Optus and playing at the Dome, I reckon. There is no way the AFL is going to allow us to plow money into an upgrade of Arden St. The "residential development at Arden St" rumour could be spot on, as soon as we are out of the way.

Personally I'd rather share facilities with the Bulldogs but maybe the Blues will be more reasonable to deal with this century.

Speaking out of pure ignorance here, but does anyone know why we couldn't use the dome? We already have the Captain's Bar there, could we not also use training facilities there and establish club rooms etc?
Maybe it's a cost thing (rental), fear of damage to the playing surface, or something else?
The Docklands is, sort of close to Nth Melbourne, and just sounds better than having to co-habit with Carlton. Plus I'd imagine for those of you lucky enough to actually live and work in Melbourne that it would be a pretty pleasant stroll from town to go watch the boys train and sink a couple at the Captain's Bar.
Just a curious thought.

There are new apartments going up across the road from the ground.

Last i heard, there was hope of a large Child Care Centre being set up on the site which would fund some of the redevelopment. Talks on this are ongoing.

How pathetic, I can't believe they just want to trash the place into more units and townhouses... no one can see the value of history anymore. I really do hope this does not go ahead, it will be a great loss to north melbourne.

Absolutely agree. When is it all going to stop? Surely to goodness some of these grounds, which hold so many wonderful memories and mean so much to so many people, can be preserved in their current form. Why is money the great driver of all things today? Well I suppose I know the answer to that one. Unmitigated greed.

Walshy spoke at lunch today and was asked about the Optus option.

He said the Kangas certainly wanted to stay at Arden street but the decision needed to be made with a business head not heart to determine what is best for the kangaroos. I got the distinct vibe (without him actually saying it) that Optus is the go. Spoke about what a brilliant development it will be with $20 mil to be spent, and how we could never expect to match that sort of investment at Arden street.

Said they are meeting with the MCC, AFL etc over the next few weeks and a decision would be made in the next 45 - 90 days.

Hope my reading between the lines is wrong but I think we are heading to Princes Park.

I'm praying for a miracle. PLEASE, North, stay at ARDEN STREET.

Whilst watching North play Carlton today I kept thinking, 'How could they even be considering sharing a ground with this mob??'.

Surely, there has to be a solution which will allow North to stay at Arden Street.

I thought the same thing. IFFFF we have to move, who gets to say when each team trains. :(

The only positive Carey might become involved.

The negative - Pagan would watch us train
