Good graph and reveals the stark contract between AFL heartland and RL heartland.

RL HEARTLAND ONLY GRAPH:

Are you trying to imply that this graph is somehow a negative for AFL
and a positive for NRL ? If so , I'm very confused.

No, I'm just distinguishing between the respective heartlands because there is a massive difference in the culture of attendance which is not code-specific but rather geographic-specific. A football team from any brand of football averaging 30,000 in RL heartland is a fantastic achievement, whereas in AFL heartland it is considered mediocre and not competitive with the big boys. The reality is the culture of attendance in AFL heartland will never be replicated by any brand of football within RL heartland by any brand, ever.

So you admit that the Swans are doing well in Sydney as so far the Swans have a crowd average of 34,995.

So in summation you are saying that the Lions and Swans could do better when compared to the rest of Australia but are extremely successful when compared to the average nrl club .

.

A lot of those crowds haven't been updated however. Seems like the only one that has been updated is the Broncos crowd, and a few clubs near the bottom.

Back to the OP, the northern papers has a front page story last week referring to an 'Ultimate League', with the following RL clubs (from memory)
Nth Qld
Brisbane Broncos
Gold Coast
Newcastle
Melbourne Storm
Adelaide Sharks (Cronulla)
Perth Rabbitos
Sydney Dragons (Roostes & St G Illa)
Parramatta Panthers
Canterbury Wests Tigers
NZ Warriors
Newcastle
Central Coast Eagles
plus a 2nd team in Brisbane.

14 clubs.

9 Sydney team cut down to 3.

This would be awesome for AFL, as there would be thousands of p1ssed off RL fans swearing off the game for good.

But I don't think it would fix RL. Perth, Adelaide & Melbourne would all lose money and I don't think crowds in Sydney would improve.

I wonder what ld would say ?

Its not going to happen so don't worry.

In time there may be some reduction but in no more certainty then the reduction of melbourne AFL teams.

at most 2 sydney clubs will probably go....Dogs today have said they might goto CC....that wont happen...

Yet all sydney clubs are in areas we need them, so its a tough decision

we have CC, Sunshine Coast, Central Qld, west bris, wellington and now perth all wanting teams but we cant afford to give them any...and no sydney clubs want to leave

Who was it that said -
Rabitohs & Tigers -"doubtful"
Panthers & Cronulla -"in danger"
Many, Eels & dragrons -"under pressure"

Perth ? Are you monitoring the situation or living in the past ?
The WA Reds have been removed from MES due to lack of support and are now playing backup for the WARL . This team was the flagship for the push
of rl into Perth . It's worse than failed . It's sucking much needed funds away
from the WARL . Even the CEO admits this now .

firstly on the Reds......terrible business plan if they expected 5k people every week... for a 3rd tier comp

The whole thing was crap..bringing back the Reds as Ive said before the Gold Coast Titans are a perfect model for any new sporting team...

Most sydney clubs are in financial crap...however...Souths and Tigers are safe....Panthers and Sharks are most in danger I totally agree....I think NRL would save Panthers first as there are in prime RL land...

Manly are safe, Eels are neither great or bad.....Dragons also are close (I think they should go)

Reds need to die and a new team needs to be born thats the only way RL in perth will prosper.

So assuming that 2 or 3 Sydney based clubs will either merge/relocate or die what clubs do you think are most at risk?

Sharks and Dragons - without a doubt

Sharks have a very limited supporter base....only based in shire...but relocated I think they could get support from CC or qld...

Dragons...neither sydney or gong...have aus wide support be a great relocation team..

NRL would do everything to save panthers due to west sydney rl heartland...

Is this the appropiate forum to debate the fact that the WA Reds, the WA flagship team for a push into the nrl , has ceased apirations of playing at the premier rectangular stadium in Perth the MES and has whimpered back to playing support for local warl suburban teams .Seems this is one expansion that is not going ahead in a hurry . Of course that can only strengthen AFL generally give strength to expansion designs .

failure from the start..nrl predicted it

Why did the nrl invest in something it predicted would fail ?
Doesn't make sense .

.

because nrl said perth wasnt ready...now they look like they were right....gallop hasnt made any decisions since under 20's comp...he predicted reds failure so now we dont have to expand over there

read between the lines....our CEO is a joke

he was a Super League lawyer...he still feels everyone sees him as a SL person

You have having a lend of me .

Repeat , nobody would , especially the nrl invest in something it predicted would fail ?
Doesn't make sense .

NRL hardly invested at all in Reds

Annesley said in January he thought Reds were rushed before there time
