Yes, but when you have innocently made a "mistake" (I say "mistake" because how is getting out of your car really that bad) and they over react like that, it can really make an impression on you. The cop, after he had calmed down, didn't even want to listen to an explanation or even acknowledge he was from out of town and didn't know the "rules".

I know they have a dangerous job over there but some of them need a little lesson in risk assessment. A 50 year old guy reaching into the back pocket of his jeans for his wallet whilst saying "I've got my licence in my back pocket officer" (or at least trying to while he was being yelled at) doesn't seem like the greatest risk to me.

They have to treat each situation on its merits, not a one size fits all.

Try explaining all that to a constable who had his jaw blown off this morning in Adelaide while responding to a triple murder.

RIP those souls involved, horrible stuff.

I do believe star group would have given the perp a jolly good rogering :D
Lets hope so, but looking at the footage, he was arrested calmly by the STAR.

In America he would have had his skull bashed in. My point is surfacing out of this shocking incident. I would have shoved my gun up his ar** and pulled the trigger. But that would lower me to his scumness.

Tell me, how brave do you think you would be without the authority of the state at your back?

Personally, I have more respect for someone that puts their well being on the line for others without recieving a pay packet to do it.

Now, that's a real hero for you.

Who puts there well being on the line without a pay packet ? And puts their lives in danger, day in day out. Without goverment backing. Who ? and why would they do this ?

You tell me.

And in adding, how much respect do you have for police ? lets see you live your comfortable life without them.

I know that all of the details haven't fully been released yet, but if you are responding to an emergency where shots have been fired, being in the open with no cover doesn't seem like the brightest idea. Maybe they were ambushed getting out of their cop car, who knows. But it does seem like someone screwed up there.

It's a dangerous job, but there are ways to keep yourself safe for the most part.

On a semi-related note, a reporter on channel Ten made this startling claim - "the police were ambushed by surprise..." As opposed to the ambush where the person lets you know that he's going to jump out and attack you in a minute and then goes back to his hiding spot?

It was a simple domestic. Stupid brain dead got angry, because he thought someone was picking on his sick dog.

Had a shotgun, blew three innocents into oblivion/ death. It was so quick, law enforcement had no time. Blew an officer into life scarring. Knocked his jaw off. Scarred another officer for life. Another 16 year old lad is fighting for his life.

Officer will never be the same. His family is fu**ed over this. Really devastated. He was just doing his routine job !!!!!!!!!

almost as bad as "7 a.m. in the morning"

Ordinary, everyday citizens.

And in adding, how much respect do you have for police ?

I am conflicted by the fact that police are required to impose laws on the populace that the populace do not support, or are brain washed in to embracing. This is a form of tyranny.

When a cop does an act that helps an innocent citizen from a potentially perilous situation, then they have my respect as much as any other citizen would have my respect for such an act.

However, when a citizen does it, it usually becomes a footnote in the fine print of history, but when a cop does it, it is pounced upon by their masters in the propaganda wing of the state and placed upon high rotation.

A cop that busts someone for smoking a joint is a pig.

A cop that saves a kid from drowning is a hero. Albeit, a diluted hero, when his act is prostituted by the state, for the benefit of the state. A state that does not represent all of it's citizens, and at times, the majority of it's citizens.

If the police only imposed laws that the population supported, along with certain guarantees on individual rights, then they would have my complete unwavering support and respect.

In conclusion, there is no simple answer to your question.

lets see you live your comfortable life without them.

Currently, my life would be more comfortable without them, than with them. See above.

When are you going to pick up your bat & ball and go home?

Or at least to your block in the scrub suitable for fancy irrigating and no bitumen roads nearby?

When are you going to pick up your bat & ball and go home?

Perhaps you need to address your own personal issues as to why my posting (which is within the rules) distresses you?

Or at least to your block in the scrub suitable for fancy irrigating and no bitumen roads nearby?

Why would that be a problem?

Are you suggesting that technological pursuits and a happy life would be non existent without the westminster system and it's enforcement arm?

Don't flatter yourself rookie

You're a flights of fantasy type where any mores are to be treated as an invasion of privacy.

Good luck with that

I'm happy for you to present an intelligent rebuttal whenever you like. What parts of my posts are untrue?

You're obviously living in hope then!!!

Your post inferred absolutes

Life has to be one of compromise, we have to survive together, the alternative is unthinkable.

I stated elsewhere that I believe we, as a collective race, are maturing, which is just as well because without global restraint we are all ****ed.

Live your life with as much freedom as you can legally manage, but don't expect others to sit back if the freedoms you insist on impinge upon their lives.

Which comes down to the crux of the matter, there has to be an arbiter.

If that arbiter makes a judgment that you are unhappy with, will you throw out the baby with the bathwater?

Hence there is compromise and realistically, numbers do win out.

One report is that they were shot at when they got out of the Police Car
Another said they were shot at the front door

Police Deputy Commissioner Gary Burns said it was a "shock" for Adelaide.

"I have the deepest sympathy for the family involved in the shooting, because it is four members of a family who were shot - three generations," he said.

"You don't know what sets these things off.

"It is a huge tragedy ... and we're not sure why, and it happens in suburban Adelaide."

Police were alerted by a frantic call at 2.30am from the woman who survived, saying shots were being fired into their front door on Montacute Road.

The gunman shot at officers after they arrived, the deputy commissioner alleged.

"It will be alleged that the offender fired on police and the officers returned fire," he said.

"One officer was shot in the face."

He is in a serious but stable condition with injuries to his jaw, while a second officer was treated for an injured knee.

Mr Burns said the injured policeman was in an induced coma and would require surgery to his jaw.

"It's a very distressing and traumatic incident for everyone involved," he said.

Another neighbour said police had briefed the locals.

"It's pretty freaky round this area - this is a nice area - that this happens."

Police asked residents to remain in their homes for much of yesterday, so they could search the crime scene forensically and preserve any evidence.

During the siege, a wide cordon was installed around the alleged shooters home and a no-fly zone overhead was ordered.

Here's a website that has live Police radio frequencies world wide......

http://www.radioreference.com/

It's legal but I don't know how the website does it.........it certainly is interesting stuff to listen to.

how is this is legal, I'm listening now for the boredom factor but peoples DOB, licence number and addresses being made public over the internet live, serious identity problem.

A big thank you to the copper who found me and the missus in the back of her car in an empty carpark, around midnight on Tuesday.

A flash of the torch and the fear of god was all that was given and needed.

That's not really true. In most states police have a lot of discretionary powers these days for preemptive searches, and they use them. My brother and I are similar ages, both quiet respectful law abiding citizens, very similar in manner etc. I have never been bothered by the police. He is frequently hassled and occasionally searched, on public transport and elsewhere - a number of times when I've been with him.

Why? I'm a buttoned down, straight-arrow lawyer and look it. He's a ska musician with piercings, tattoos and fashion sense to match.

Police are mostly reasonable blokes, but profiling happens.
Agreed. Some are absolute w*nkers just because you are not looked at as a perfect citizen. Even just walking home friday or saturday nights they are dicks. Have never came across a good cop yet for a few different things.

Lived in the US of A for a while, cops were always good AFTER they found out I'm Aussie.
Most Aussie cops I've dealt with are complete **********s!! Especially the women, power-tripping man-haters. Largely corrupt too, **** THA PO-LICE!!
