And people can emerge -even Kyrigios, if he gets it to together could challenge Joko by this time next year for instance.

Pigs fly too. He's bare minimum 2 years away, with his best chances being the US Open and Wimbledon. Australian Open is too slow for him, and he is a rubbish clay courter. I'd be amazed if he reaches the 3rd round on clay.

Yep, perhaps, we'll see. My main point was re Joko-you can't stay up there for ever and he's been up for a long time now.

Nick has no chance. He hits big but is still too inconsistent. I can't see him beating Djoko in a slam in the next 3 years. His best shot, his serve will get nullified- I'd back Novak to serve more aces than Nick in that match up.
Yep, but again-my main idea was that Djoko can't keep this level up for ever ( or even 3/4 more years). And others will emerge, improve.

He'll be a half decent chance at Wimbledon in 2017 assuming he isn't lazy during the year. He needs to get that ranking up. You will very rarely win Slams outside the top 10, the route is just too hard

Yep, he has to work really hard and stop all the junk. Remains to be seen if he has the discipline.

That's the million dollar question, will he be bothered or does he just want to bang his new girlfriend. He should be working hard to get that ranking up.

Took Roger 10 minutes to finally give Djokovic credit for first two sets. After all the "I did this, I did that" he eventually got it out.

Must have been hard for him lol, but a bit typical.

Oh well, he can keep wishing he'll win another one haha

That's not like Stubbsy, not at all. Where's Michelle Payne gone?

Please don't give Channel 7 ideas...although I'm backing her to be marginally better than the Twitter muppet they keep shoving down our mouths!

Djokovic played incredibly well in the first 2 sets, then it was a pretty even contest over the next 2 sets. Federer cannot beat Djokovic over 5 sets anymore, hasn't been able to for a couple of years now. There is no shame in that. Federer played an incredible tournament up to the semi and should be congratulated.

I always feel for Novak when he plays roger, because the crowd is always so pro fed, no matter what city or grand slam they are playing at. I don't get upset with crowds over it, fed is just the most popular tennis ever. He transcends the sport. Whether or not you think his public persona is put on a little, roger is insanely popular and well liked.

Djokovic has improved steadily as the tournament has gone on and he will set himself for his toughest match in the final. I would like to see raonic make the final because Novak Andy matches can be boring to watch.

This tennis board can get quite frustrating to read during big matches, especially with people being personal in their attacks on players. Be honest, Rafa, roger and Novak have hardly put a foot wrong on or off the court for many years. They should be appreciated for their different gamestyles and their brilliant rivalries over the last 10 years plus. Roger will retire and we will miss him. Rafa is already in decline and I miss his best tennis and Novak won't be at this level for that many more years. Appreciate it and enjoy it.

The voice of reason! Well-said.

Meh that was disappointing. Roger can only challenge Novak when he is trying stuff and making risky plays.
Yeah the last few grand slam matches between them Federer seems to give Djokovic all sorts of trouble when his back is to the wall and he has to go at him to save the match.

He was far too passive in the first two sets, and Djokovic was hitting everything perfectly. Would've loved to have seen the outcome in one of their recent encounters if Federer actually got going early and went up a set or two.

He can't match him anywhere. Novak returns better and was hitting much harder than him during baseline rallies. Came out and hit like 20 more errors in the first two sets. Federer stuffed up his preparation somehow.

The last few times they've played it seems to be Novak hitting winners early, and then once Federer gets in a bit of a rhythm Novak's ridiculous defensive game gets the job finished.

Just finished watching. Think today probably confirmed the quote about Roger painting the canvas. and Novak at the quarry.

At the end of the second set, I was genuinely concerned about whether Roger would ever be able to match Djokovic. After that third set, its pretty clearly only going to be over when Roger says it is. The head to head record is slightly skewed, considering both started their peak early but Novak only really faced him at the back end of his best whilst Roger on the downhill has faced Novak at his peak. I reckon this year is probably the last year that Djokovic is likely to be this ridiculously dominant, not that there's much young talent coming through to take the mantle.

You have to admire the way he treats his body. He does absolutely everything to stay fit, and get an edge. Some of the contortion you see him doing is just radical. Roger's tennis is absolutely beautiful, but Novak came very close to matching it in those first two sets - so ****ing clinical, he just didn't make a mistake! That shot from Roger in the third though. Oh my God. Unbelievable and unmatched. Was unfamiliar for Nole, playing in front of a RLA crowd that was actively barracking for his opponent, and he let that show a bit at the start of the fourth - but all credit to him for rallying and winning it quickly in the end.

That probably wasn't a match for the ages, but what we saw in the first two from Novak and in the third from Roger will live long in the memory. Credit to both, and we'll definitely miss them when they're gone considering what's coming through.

Age caught up with Rafa, and will catch up with Novak. Obviously the latter prepares better and has had better luck with injury, but it'll happen. Relying on generating the kind of power that he manages eventually takes its toll.

Imagine a 34 year old Djokovic up against prime Federer.
What's the old saying...the cream rises?

What I would have given to see these two face off in their prime, never mind reversing the roles.

I, like most people in the world, have a tremendous amount of respect for Djokovic. Federer, however, is immortal.

Djokovic never had to contend with Agassi or Sampras, but then Fed never had to contend with Fed.

When the dust settles on both careers in about 9 or 10 years - I think Federer's natural talent will be remembered more fondly.

Djokovic has had to contend with the rest of the big 4 for the entirety of this career. Fed played Sampras twice and maybe Agassi a few times as they were on their way out.

People say Djokovic won't be anywhere at Feds age which I think is a little foolish to presume- he's one of the fittest athletes on the planet ever and even better placed to last longer than any of the others. He has supreme flexibility and no history of any real injuries. Fed carried a dodgy back most of his career. Same for Murray. Nadal had his knee. Relatively speaking Djokovic is a Rolls Royce. It's scary how good he can actually become. Look out GOAT.

If Novak wins the French, and yes that is a big IF, as it is the one Slam where Rafa will feel right at home. However if he does, we could be in for something seriously special over the next 2 years. Novak has a real opportunity to get up to 15-16 Slams. After that who knows, but that only takes him to 30. He will still add a couple after that if he is good enough. I don't rate the next era of players that highly.
