I really think if we are to win this thing it'll be on the back of Glenn Maxwell. He has to bat atleast top 4, hell I'd be tempted to open with him given what he did in Sri Lanka as an opener but we have alot of bats who like opening. Finch was good in the middle order in that tri-series we had against England and NZ before the infamous tour of South Africa last year. At the moment I'd be looking at:

1. Short
2. Wade
3. Warner
4. Maxwell
5. Finch
6. Lynn
7. Turner/M.Marsh
8. Starc
9. Dorff
10. Tye/K.Richardson
11. *Insert spinner here*

Then in the squad you'd be looking at the likes of:

Smith
Khawaja
S. Marsh
Carey
B. McDermott
Stoinis
J. Richardson
Cummins
Lyon/Zampa/Chris Green/Agar/SOK

Would love a team of youngsters to get a go. As well as our most damaging players.

1. Aaron Finch C
2. Matthew Wade VC
3. Darcy Short All-Rounder
4. Marcus Stoinis All-Rounder
5. Glenn Maxwell All-Rounder
6. Ashton Turner Batsmen
7. Alex Carey WK
8. Andrew Tye Fast Bowler
9. Jye Richardson Fast Bowler
10. Adam Zampa Spinner
11. Jason Berendorff Fast Bowler

There not really any youngster in that one except Jye Richardson

So - we're approaching the T20 World Cup.

Who is in your best side?

Finch
Warner
Smith
Carey
Maxwell
Stoinis
Mitch Marsh
Starc
Cummins
Richardson
Zampa

LOL, Stoinis still riding the wave of one innings that happened 2 years ago not even in this form of the game

Finch
Warner
Smith
----
Top 3 is self explanatory.

Turner
Maxwell
Carey
----
Turner may be one out of the box but Cricket australia like him.. alot. Could change him with a raft of guys, Short, M.Marsh, S.Marsh. Maxwell is still arguarbly the best T20 player in the world. A walk up start. Carey has surprised me how well he played that finishing role at the last ODI world cup.

Agar
Starc
Cummins
----
Agar is a must as a holding spinner who can punch a few big hits later in the (batting) innings. Starc and Cummins are two of the best short form bowlers in the world.

Richardson
Zampa
----
Richardson has performed admirably in a variety of roles and done extremely well. Could mount a case for Meredith, for Stanlake, Paris/Behrendorf have done well for Scorchers/Australia previously.

In the squad (of 15) could be;

Usman Khawaja (batter)
Darcy Short (batter)
Sean Abbott (all rounder)
Nathan Coulter-Nile (bowler)
Wes Agar (bowler)

Agar is my bolter. Been super impressive in this years BBL so far. Could see the selectors go for a tried and tested guy like J.Richardson, Behrendorf, Meredith even.

The form of Agar of the Perth variety and Turner is a worry, you couldn't pick either atm.

You can get sucked into picking openers or all rounders in this format. I reckon Ferguson as a specialist middle order bat should be a chance to compliment Smith and bridge between your openers Finch/Warner and the lower order hitters Maxwell/Carey/M.Marsh. Get some balance in the team. If you get off to a flyer you can change the order up.

Good call, fair call on Ferguson to be honest. In much, much better form than Turner. Even at 35 (36 in November), he is in arguably career best form.

Also, good call on Ashton Agar, just know they (Cricket Australia) likes what skill set he brings to the team. Balance, variety, excellent in the field, needs to work on his finishing with the bat and has bee tasked with bowling early in the power plays. No one else in Australian cricket is close (ok, except Maxwell) to his skill set. I'd love to see another spinner in and around the squad, Australia seem to have alot of almost guys. Nair, Swepson, Manenti, Cook. Perhaps T20 specialist Chris Green finally gets his recognition of how well he has honed his skills in his journeyman adventure on the T20 circuit?

They'll want an extra bowler option and pray to god they don't play Stoinis down the order like the World Cup.

That is why I like Agar in that 7/8/9 position.

Gives us the 6 bowling options we seem to prefer. Three spinners as well (Agar, Maxwell and Zampa). Won't be surprised to see Lloyd Pope be a bolter in a big way. Less than 6 an over (5.54 r.p.o) and an average (16.83) up there with the best in the current BBL season.

It is being played in Aus, so you have to go with Lynn surely:

1. Warner
2. Finch
3. Finch
4. Smith
5. M.Marsh
6. Carey
7. Cutting
8. Starc
9. Cummins
10. Green
11. Ahmed

Now there is a side that will never be picked but I think it covers all bases.

Warner
Finch
Smith
Maxwell
M Marsh
Carey
Coulter-Nile
Agar
Starc
Richardson
Zampa

Cummins, Short, Ferguson (honestly I'm as surprised as you are, but his white ball domestic form is untouchable), Behrendorff

Finch (c)
Warner
Lynn
Smith
Maxwell
Carey (wk)
Agar
Cummins
Starc
Zampa
Richardson

Short, Labuschagne, Ferguson, Pattinson, Coulter-Nile

Finch
Warner
Short
Smith
Carey
Maxwell
In form slogger/finisher/batting allrounder
Starc
Cummins
Richardson/Meredith/Patto?
Zampa

Go in batting heavy with a few all round options. Can go hard from ball 1 and in the event we lose wickets Smith/Carey have shown the ability to bat through and score with less risks.

Coulter-Nile has done little of late.

Biggest aussie wicket takers so far in the BBL.

Sams
Abbott
Meredith
Richardson

And none fill me with huge confidence.

Abbott has at least performed a role at international level. Richardson was getting there but fear his shoulder injury will hold him back from fullfilling his potential.

Finch (c)
Warner
Lynn
Smith
Maxwell
Carey (wk)
Agar
Cummins
Starc
Zampa
Richardson

Short, Labuschagne, Ferguson, Pattinson, Coulter-Nile

That's it.

I can quibble about your reserve 5, but the first XI is exactly what I'd go with.
