I always look for the positives, no point repeating the negatives as they are pretty obvious and I will leave them to the coaches to digest.

Positves:

Xerri - yet another proof that we have at worst a top 3 ruck in the comp. I still pinch myself that we've got him, when he didn't look like it for years
The midfield finally clicked into gear in the last 15 minutes - we can hope that it could be the penny dropping type of moment.
Character to come back and win after so many players had a dirty day - we haven't done this much if at all for years
McKercher - last few weeks he's been a different player
FOS - best game so far and yet another proof we've got a player there
Zurhaar - much maligned, but if he wasn't playing yesterday or vs Richmond, we don't win
Curtis - oozes class. Even when rusty and playing on quarter rat power
As much as I was sad and angry when we missed out on Reid in those circumstances - I don't think I could stand that brat playing for us. Is a bogan of the highest order who thinks his shit doesn't stink. If he's traded anywhere, it's got to be Essendon. Would fit right in

Genuine question. When was our last win after being behind by 18 in the last quarter?

Aside from the overbearing shitness, maybe a small step was taken.
I know we were the exact opposite of good at comebacks during the Scott years, but I didn't think I'd have to go as far back as Round 5, 2008 to find the last time this happened. (There were a couple of not-quite cases in between then and now, though - coming back from 15 or 16 down in the last.)

21 points down at the 11-minute mark of the final quarter, won by 7 in the end. Features that charmed sideways centre bounce that led to a crucial Ed Lower goal late. Should play from the point we were 21 down if anyone fancies revisiting:

At this point in our development, or our rebuild or whatever you want to call our current position - on a miserable cold Sunday in a long weekend in June - there is more relief as an emotion over all else, that we fell across the line and got the 4 points.

The reality is all of us were not mentally prepared for the fallout of losing that game.
I cannot be ****ed with getting smashed in the media right now. Not at this stage of our development and our season.

So hating on the win because of how we played for 3 quarters OR being happy that we didn’t lose in the end - these feelings are interchangeable. And both valid.

The better run clubs, and yes they are the better run clubs in Geelong, Collingwood, etc - they plan for a season that runs from March through to September. It’s meticulous in the way it’s executed and why they are always challenging at the pointy end of the season more often than not.

We have a game on Saturday night against Freo and our form right now does not give much hope or enthusiasm that we can win or give ourselves a decent crack at winning.

And that’s the obvious clear difference between us and the top 4 sides.
It’s the way we think about each game, the way we prepare, the expectations we set.
We don’t play with any fluidity or purpose until we need to chase the game and then look how potent we became in the last 15 minutes. So frustrating.

In a season that goes 25 weeks before finals, everything just feels like a grind getting from one game to the next.
We need to start making our performances count. They need to mean something.

So Geelong and Collingwood consistently set themselves goals and hit them and right now, we’re barely scratching the surface at genuine progress.

So internally the club plans for and sets itself realistic targets for where the list is currently at.
6-8 wins and percentage in the high 80’s.

Our list is still a bottom 4 list with issues at both ends of the ground, and a young potentially elite midfield group who hasn’t worked out how to maximise its strengths. As has been said numerous times, most of us did not expect to be outplayed by a weakened West Coast for 3 quarters. That’s not part of the plan.

And that’s why there is still a long way for go.
It’s slow going. And we’re over being patient. And rightfully so.

And that reality is boiling over into frustration with the get out of jail wins against the Tigers and Eagles that show there is at least another season at best of mixed performances until we’re “there”.

Geez McDonald has played over 200 games comparing him to FOS who’s played around 10 is rather stupid I would say
Why? I love FOS and he’s going to be amazing. Based on the eye test alone he was influential yesterday and I would say it was comfortably his best game so far. But Luke’s game yesterday was easily better. Not just on stats but standing up in big moments, being an important part of the back 6 holding up, real contributions to the win.

Letting go of the captaincy has been good for him, his game, and it seems likely, his mental health. He’s been good this year. He’s a proper North Man and the hate on here is a disgrace.

If we come away from this sell your soul to the devil cross roads moment with a 1-1 return it’s satisfactory but a 0-2 would have manure trucks turning up next Monday morning
8 points would be best ;) We've always been flat after a bye.
To not be a continued embarrassment to the entire competition.

The bench mark is to start winning games we shouldn’t win and winning games we should win.

To witness a functional game plan that can stack up with the top teams, this doesn’t mean by round 8 the crisis meeting of coaches and come up with the genius idea pushing back on defence, create a contest and possess the ball. They basically conceded the season was over by round 8 as Clarksons whizbang game plan is unable to be executed.

By no means did I think we could be a top 8 team. But I do believe we should be winning against mid table teams and dismissing the bottom 3 or 4 with ease. That was my benchmark and it seems far from reality. Maybe in 2026
Hear ya loud and clear. Scraping over the line against teams we should be way ahead of is disheartening.

Any team, including vfl, applies any pressure and we are water.

I want rockets up the arses of those that we demand show up every week. My concern is that they just dont have it. The cattle we have are good for slaughtering and nothing else.

A few more hacks into the team by 2026 and its good night nurse.

Wow you need me to explain to you why comparing a rookie to a veteran is not stupid 🤦

C’mon Guys. We only have to make one simple tweak to our game plan and problem solved. Top 4 here we come. You know what that simple tweak is? Get Zurhaar to chase. That Honky refuses to run. Multiple Defenders have kicked multiple goals on him and it has been costly big time. Just get The Bull to chase and problem solved. 😵‍💫

Just got back on the red eye from Bunbury. Yesterday was the best day of my life. We were down & out - 3 goals down in the last but there's a BIG BIG heart that beats at Arden St. That comeback reminded me of when I climbed Mt Hotham during Covid. I was done. Supplies were low. Breathing 20% oxygen in sub-zero temps. I had no right to reach the summit. But I got there - a week behind schedule - and no thanks to my sherpa who conveniently left base camp on the first night and made his way back to Nepal. I'll deal with him later.

And the fact it's Pride Month, it just made the win all that much sweeter.

I disagree with this. I get where you and alot of other people are coming from tho.

But ... so many times it's when people are sick of being patient with a situation that they most need to be patient with the situation.

Its the difference between losing composure and not losing composure ... and we've seen how shit that is onfield for years.

I know people hate hearing this but we are in the first year of Clarkson coaching us with no bullshit on the sidelines. The very thing he said we needed when he came back to the club.

Since he's signed we've had JHF leave, TT situation, and worst of all he's had the racism scandal hanging over his head. Like it or not he would not have been able to give coaching his full attention under those circumstances. Especially with the details of Cyril saying he'd be interested in working with him coming out. I'll bet no one on here could have dealt with that and stayed solely focused on coaching.

All that aside this could be the first year since LDU was drafted that he's had the same coach two full seasons in a row. Hasn't happened yet tho. It would be the second time for Larkey, Zurhaar and JY. The first time was their first two seasons. We haven't had a stable, normal season since Maj tried to kill himself. The AFL has ****ed us at every opportunity.

That's where we are at. Every before 2023 was of our own making but since then its been outside stuff that has hurt us. Its like the universe is doing everything it can to **** us up.

I get its frustrating but this is the first year since 2018 that things haven't been completely ****ed in multiple ways and we're already performing better that we have at the midway point of any season since 2019. The first game after the bye and we already have more premiership points than any season since 2021 and we look like improving on that. If we hadn't copped that stupid suspension on Curtis its very likely we'd already have them.

Even yesterday was our best comeback win since 2008. And a big part of it was the efforts of a bunch of 20 year olds.

Yep, I think LDU is finding the balance of his more team orientated role.

You're a football illiterate Zondor.

A few weeks ago you were banging on about our lack of outside run compared to other teams who kill us on the outside. Even now you won't see what's right in front of your face without someone having to it explain to you.

Matt Campbell goal at the end one of my all time favourites. Around the time of The Roosistence from memory, the passion was high that night

Even the "much maligned Zurhaar" (who I criticise more than any other player,) would have benefited immensely from having two coaches since Brad Scott, instead of five.

Positive:
There was a time where we’d always run out of legs in the last quarter.
Or we’d simply give up after falling behind. Not anymore!
Both are very good indicators!
Also, Paul effing Curtis’ breakout year!

Negative:
Those turnovers man, those easy missed kicks. They need to stop. Everything looks crap if you can’t do the simple stuff. Or as clarko would say, the ‘fundamentals’. Coach killers. No game plan works if you can’t even take a mark.
The fall of Larkey and LDU also needs to be addressed.

LOL. Yes a number of players on our list struggle with the outside game. It is why we by and large move the ball slowly. Why Clarkson has the team set up to drop back. Because we lack run. Because we struggle on defensive transition. One player is not the reason for that Ironstein. And who is the idiot who continually regales us with his nonsensical takes? Like Zurhaar cost us games! I suggest you look in the mirror to see what a football illiterate looks like. :stern look

I wonder why you criticise a White Privileged Male more than any other player but if Jy makes a mistake we hear crickets. One Mystery Robert Stack would solve in 69 seconds. :stern look

No he's not the only one but he's always one of them and quite often it only takes one player not running enough to **** it up for everyone else. We constantly see Konstanty and Curtis, even Darling (tho he does relief ruck,) tackling in the defensive half of the ground, even right back in the oppo goal square. We rarely see Larkey doing it and never see Zurhaar doing it.

He's a senior player and a leader on the forward line. He should be setting an example.

We've now won five of our last seven against West Coast and three of our last four against Richmond.

Nobody is particularly excited about being 16th but at least we can say we're not the worst side in it any more.

Our next eight games include match-ups against the sides currently 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th. Results against those sides will be a real test of our progress, and winning two or three of those would be huge for us.
