Thought i'd start a positive thread to go against the flow of what's been happening the last 24 hours or so...

on a few occasions now I have seen Dayne Beams throw himself at the ball, at the pack, or at an oncoming opposition player in a manner that we havent seen at collingwood since Gavin Brown. We've had hard players but Beams seems to have that "nutcase" streak about him that we've been missing for so, so long.

there was one incident yesterday on the wing near the centre square where beams and an essendon player were racing at the ball from opposite directions and you just knew he would go at it as hard as humanly possible.

IMO he already provides an example that the rest of the team have to follow.

He would rather cop a hard kick in the guts diving on the ball, then hang out the pack and get an easy dish off.

He's fantastic.

quickly becoming one of our better players

hoepfully he carries this through a very exciting and long career

How would we rate his game yesterday? I thought he was very good in close.

Fantastic player, maybe handballs it a bit much, but once he gets his balance right with kick to handball in the right circumstance, and with his courage and smarts will be a great player

6 to 7 out of 10

gets his set shots sorted and probably kick a little more, or our players realise how good a handpass he is and move for him he will be even better

I recall the bloke who recruited Gavin Brown to Collingwood U19's saying that he watched him play part of a game and he only got (insert low number here, eg 6) but that they were the (6) hardest possessions he'd ever seen.

Beams is cut from a similar cloth, a bit more skilful maybe (not that Browny wasn't skilled)

Very good idea giving him No 17.

Pendles had him as one of the four blokes he would bring to dinner if he had to choose.

Seems like he is fast becoming a favourite around the club with the blokes as well which is good. Will give him more incentive to stick around rather than be tempted back to the coast.

It never hurt the likes of Gary Ablett Jr, Daniel Cross, Sam Mitchell, Joel Selwood etc...

Pendles is his mentor.

Beams is going to be a fantastic inside/creative player. His outside game is a little bit more mediocre but well and truly up to scratch which makes him a very good prospect.

A lot of younger players that come in need to rely on finding space to have an impact on a game at this level, so it's nice to find a young midfielder that can impact a game in close after 4 career games.

No doubt after a few pre-seasons he'll be able to find more outside footy through hard running.

His hardness and willingness to try and create play via handball (something only maybe Pendles can do at the club - everyone else only handballs when they shit themselves) are his strengths.

Him and McCarthy will be extremely strong players for the pies in the coming years, I'm putting Beams up there with the likes of Joel Selwood.

If we lose this kid to the Gold Coast it will be one of our biggest losses of the decade and it will really hurt us going forward.. Probably as big as losing Paul Williams at his prime to Sydney. He is the exact thing we lack, espescially now that Burns is gone.

If it happens, myself along with the rest of us will be absolutely gutted :thumbsd:

Fingers crossed he stays guys...

i dont think he'll go. the story about knocking back the 2 year deal was before he was ever a part of the club. he seems to have warmed to the club, and he seems to be one of those players that plays for his colours.

and besides, not many players walk out on collingwood.
