Didn't go! Bendigo is a bit far for Easter Sunday. Easy win 156 - 101. Looks like they were pretty even in 1st half and ran away in second. Surprised when paper this morning picked bendigo to win! Neitehr Bendigo or Essendon troubled Werribee last year and Essendon had a lot more injuries/players missing!

As mention in another thread Minson played resis. Murphy? named but a Murphy played resis as well.
Gilbee named as well.

Anyone with scorers, best and an anlaysis?

Werribee web site a shocker.

Yes, I saw that Minson played in the reserves as well. He didn't even get a mention in its best players.

Footballvic isn't updating the best players until later tonight.

Brad Murphy played resies (if at all) didnt play seniors, in the end the guys just ran over the top of bendigo.

Nick Bruton, Matthew Boyd played well.

Eagleton, Picken, Wiggins need a kick up the butt I reckon. Wiggins did ok after he whacked his head on the turf! Lol!

Cam Faulkner was injured (possible Knee...not sure) also Shaun Smith hamstring early in the third.

Good to see that both Chris Bond and Peter Rhode were at the game

Does anyone know how serious cam faulkners injury is?If it is a knee not one thats all we need two in one weekend and especially when hes so close to gettin a senior game.

Tell yoou something, i wouldnt mind having ben setchell running around for the doggies, he plays some good footy for werribee.
I thought bruts played really good in the ruck today, maybe not ready for seniors just yet, but he is playing some good footy right now, Gilbs should be in the seniors next week, played pretty good today.
Cam faulkners injury happened right in front of me, and i could see something popping out, at first i thought it was a cramp, but when he got to his feet it didnt look good, but he couldnt go anywhere cause the ball landed right in front of him as he was trying to walk off, and was good enough to get the ball to gilbs for a goal.
Not sure how many big wiggy kicked, but he could have easily had a few more cause he missed some easy shots, but as mels said he did play a lot better when he hit his head on the ground after taking a mark. He also didnt really go in for a second effort as the ball went past him, he just stood there and watched, and when he was trying to get the ball inside 50 he just kicked it anywhere, then after he kicked it and a bendigo player marked it he said something like, no-ones f***en leading. He had heaps of time to wait for a lead, but no he had to rush it and mess it up.
Anyway we won the game and thats all that matters.

Setchell a great ball winner, in and under type at VFL level. However is way too slow and needs better disposal to be an AFL footballer. No spring chick either.

Thanks for the report

He puts his body in just about everytime, something some of our players need to do sometimes(they do it a few times but they need to do it more). If he can get in and under packs and get the ball out(like he does) he doesnt need a lot of pace(he does have a bit of pace).
No spring chicken? I just looked in the record and hes only 25(3mths younger than browny). He may be worth a look at for next year.

Setchell - forget it. Good VFL player at best. Compare him to Dimma and Dimma wins in every category. Setchell is far from what we need.

Birss, Gilbee, McMahon - they're all infinitely better than Setchell.

17-20 is spring chicken
Not many players get drafted at 25! Just because he has nice hair does make him any good.

Brad Murphy was named in the side but was unable to play because of personal reasons....not because he isnt good enough

We don't care why he didn't play...

We know he didn't play.

And guess what the guys played probably just as good if not better without him

After watching the first two games, Murphy should be ahead of Faulkner at this stage. Having said that, neither is ready for senior footy just yet.

BTW. There was speculation we would draft another Murphy (Brian?) in the rookie draft. Is he likely to be the guy in Werribee ressies?

EDIT. - Damn, wrong thread!

There is no other murphy listed in the record apart from brad.So they might have made a change it or they have added another player after number 50(luke orwin) for werribee walked out.

Orwin didn't walk out...he was kicked out after his display against coburg in round 1

Cam faulkner hurt his ankle, and is set to miss up to 6 weeks.
This article is more about alves and the surface but it has the news about cam faulkner.

Surface not to blame for Alvey

The Western Bulldogs do not believe the much-maligned surface of their home ground Telstra Dome was to blame for the club losing its second player to a season-ending knee injury inside the first month of the season.

Young wingman Mark Alvey has joined captain Chris Grant on the sidelines for the rest of 2003 after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the second quarter of Saturday night’s game against Essendon.

Alvey, who now faces an uncertain future as he is only contracted until the end of this season - will have reconstructive surgery in about ten days time, the slight delay coming because he also has a graze on his left knee which must heal before the surgery can take place.

The injury occurred as Alvey went to tackle Essendon skipper James Hird and the Bulldogs are convinced the injury was not caused by the Telstra Dome surface – which has been maligned in the past by some players for being both too hard and uneven.

“He was just involved in a tackle on Hird,” Western Bulldogs assistant coach Chris Bond said on Monday.

“It was one of those instances we have seen so many times in footy.

“I don’t think there was any real contact involved and it was just one of those twisting and turning motions that has caused it.”

Bond said Alvey was in good spirits despite his setback as the Bulldogs’ players went for a swim at Port Melbourne beach on Monday morning.

“He is a good young player and it is to his credit he is just worried about getting through his rehab and getting back to his best,” Bond said.

Bond said the morale of the Bulldogs’ players remained strong despite losing both Grant and Alvey and their past three matches and with the prospect of facing the toughest test in football – reigning dual premiers Brisbane at the Gabba – this weekend.

“To the boys’ credit they are realising that when boys go down with season ending injuries it is a test of a really good club,” he said.

“Other guys need to step up and we feel there is some really good young talent that is going to be given an opportunity over the next few weeks.”

However one promising youngster who won’t get that opportunity is highly-rated 2002 draft pick Cameron Faulkner, who is set to miss up to six weeks with an ankle injury.

But there was some good news for the Bulldogs with courageous defender Matthew Robbins cleared of any serious long-term damage to the neck injury he sustained while bravely backing into a pack against the Bombers.

Robbins was released from hospital on Monday but has deep bruising to the back of his neck which may still keep him out of Sunday’s clash against the Lions.
