I think we should seriously field offers for this bloke at season's end and take anything we can get.

I don't think he is good enough to be in our best 22 anymore and he is coming to the point in his career where he could be at the crossroads by next season if not already.

If we could trade his best mate Tarrant - who I rate as a much better footballer than Johnson, there is no reason as to why we cannot let him go because he is easily replaceable.

He hasn't been in good form to say the least this year. He can kick running goals however just can't hit a target on the ground. I would say if we can find another promising mid/hbf he would be the first relegated to VFL.

I dont think he deserves to be dropped. Obviously, I am in the minority on this board
so you think he's in our best 22 right now?

you think it's right that he performs the way he has been recently and keeps out the likes of cook, stanley, isles, and any other young player that i doubt could do much worse.

IMO cook has looked good when he's played and needs to be given game time.

Johnno has not been himself for a while.
One thing I like about him is that he used to barrack for Collingwood as a kid.
There is no way he would be out there just to make up the numbers.
The guys loves Collingwood. :thumbsu:
He is trying, but things have been going wrong.
I don't think the players like losing as much as us supporters do.
Sometimes your body just does not come up.
I have felt buggered for a week now for no reason.
Maybe the players go through a period like this also.

In and ideal world we would have a fit goldsack running around in johnsosn role, as an attacking half back/midfield job.

Goldsack isnt anywhere near half fit, so that isnt going to happen.

Rigt now Johnson still in the side, he plays a differnt role to all of stanley/cook/iles and you could say his possesions are about equal to all of them.

He is also more accountable than cox the only other option that is why he is in the side.

Patience is a virtue, the kids will have their time.

He's just having one of those average seasons IMO. He was on fire a couple of years back so we know what he is capable of. May still be some scars from the Bell incident last year?

I thought he did quite well on Thomas was it? And stictched up Aker earlier on in the year. He hasn't been starring, but hasn't exactly gone completely missing either... doubt he will play a big part in years to come, but doesn't deserve to be traded away either IMO

If our intended role for him is to play as a small defender then I'm all for it because that's an area I think we need to focus on. If that's the case though let's leave him there & let him settle into the role fully.

Johnno is alright! He has a crack! He killed Aker a couple of weeks ago. Would not be surprised if He pulls the pin at the end of the year, just got the feeling he doesn't wanna play footy anymore, and cant adjust to how soft the game is now!

Benny Johnson is a good bloke and as we all know he is capable of playing very good football... as a player, you cant be on 24 7, he's only human... I say, see how he goes next year... and re-assess at the completion of 2009. He deserves that at least. All our younger players are coming along nicely and are getting used when required. I think we are in a good position in terms of our development, but yeah... dont forget wat benny has done for the club, unfair to axe him on the back of 1 bad season

i dont think anybody is saying delist him right now - well i'm not - but he should be spending some time in the VFL.

His kicking has been lacking some real penetration this year. If he is in the team as the one woh picks up the small quick forward leave him cos we really struggle there but playing him through the midfield just doesnt seem to be working

Sorry I did not realise Johno was averaging 26-30 quality possesions a game. like Stanners and Co....
Surely it is time to drop him and let the consistent kids have a go for the rest of the year.
Johno probably will be traded at the end of the year anyway.

He must be dropped to the VFL, its getting beyond the joke, we should be aiming top 4, but Mick keeps playing blokes out of form and losing close games, when is the club going to wake up, Maxwell and Johnson need to find form in the VFL not the bloody AFL in games where our season is on the line.

Time for Cook and Stanley to be given a legitimate chance to prove themselves - not just brought in for a week or two then dropped again. Out with the old and in with the new. Any midfielders in our senior team who cant kick must be phased out, starting with Ben Johnson this week and Rhyce Shaw if he cant get his act together in coming weeks..

Not the player he was 3 years ago but still able to contribute. I think he deserves a bit of loyalty but by the same token I don't think he will be best in our best 22 in 2009.

Problem is we have a lot in the same category in the midfield - contributors but no stars - O'Bree, R Shaw, Johnson, Lockyer, Davis, Swan. Most of these have been around a long time and are not ever going to be any better than they are now. Loyalty is one thing, but team balance and palyer development is another.

I slightly agree with Timmy. I think players like O'Bree are still needed, but certainly older excess players like Bj should be phased out and replaced with the likes of Cook and Stanley. If they turn out to not be up to AFL standard then obviously we need to replace them.
