Here is my opinion on what is our best 22 for Round 1 of the Premiership Season.

FB Thornton Grover Hayden
HB M.Carr McPharlin Dodd
C Peake Solomon Hasleby
HF Gilmore Pavlich Headland
FF Mundy Tarrant Farmer
R Sandilands J.Carr Michael Johnson
INT Bell, McManus, Black, Crowley.

I've had no option but to leave out Palmer, Schammer and Warnock. On the ruck, I reckon Johnson can be a back up ruckman when Sandy is resting on the interchange. He can get a good rest there as there is no need for him to play in the forward line because it's already full of guns. For the short periods that he spends off the ground, Johnno can pinch hit in the ruck. He'll be Goodes-like.

FB: Hayden Grover Thornton
HB: Dodd McPharlin Black
C: Schammer Headland Peake
HF: Mi Johnson Tarrant Mundy
FF: Farmer Pavlich Bell

Ruck: Sandilands J. Carr Hasleby

Interchange: Mark Johnson Crowley Warnock

Last interchange spot between: M. Carr/Palmer/Gilmore/Foster

Cannot leave Schammer out. Been impressive all pre-season (training + 1 practice match). Not much to go by but enough at the moment to include him without a second thought.

M.Carr and McMaus would be out with my team. Replaced with Schammer and Mark Johnson.

Paz? Murphy over solly?

I would hope we didn't see gilmore in the centre either.

but it seems as though there is a bit of depth.:thumbsu:

F.Farmer Taz Bell

R.Sandi,JCarr,Haze

Inter.Ma Johnson,Scham,Mcarr,Warnock/Gilmore(depends on Venue)

If Pav and Taz both lead out at the 50mtr line there is no one forward as a marking option which could be a problem

thanks posh my spelling is great these days, solly could come in there for spud because we definately have tall options to throw down there if needed.
With Gilmore i say back him in + give it a crack if it fails there is more than enough options in the team to change it.
The depth we have is incredible.

Yeah fair enough, just as has been mentioned on other thread, gilmore doesn't really have one set position, i suppose this can work against him if we are losing cos he will be one of the first looked at as non required, and for him if we are winning as he can play anywhere.

I hope the depth is incredible, last year it was tested, but that may be a good thing this year.

Bad idea imo. We already drove 211 into the ground last season by making him shoulder the load with the occasional spell from a back up ruckman.

We've got 2 quality ruckmen now. Let's use some common sense and get them to share the workload.

Indeed.
WCE do it, as do Port and Geelong.

Every game Warnock plays he will get better.

Schammer will play every game when fit, which he is. None of this emergency player crap. He will be in the 22.

I reckon Mark Johnson, Solomon, Schammer, Warnock will all play if fit round one, I see some people have left those guys out. I'll be surprised if Matt Carr lines up for the Sharks too.

Murphy needs a very good NAB Cup to play round one.

Thornton's preparation is always interrupted due to illness. I wouldn't be surprised if he has never played round one because he seems to need a month at South's to build match fitness each year.

There's a bit of pressure on Schammer this year IMO. In past seasons if he has been struggling our options to replace him have been Browne/Webster/Cook/Walker, so it hasn't really been worth dropping him with an eye on the future. But if Schammer has a couple of bad games then Palmer/Ibbo/Foster/Mayne/Smith will be breathing down his neck in 08.

Schammer will have a breakout year. I back him to finish top 3 in B&F.

Big call E Shed, I hope you are right.

I'd love to see Pav and Bell have very good seasons but someone else win the Doig. iirc between them they have won the last 7 B&F's, others need to step up and share the load.

How great is this. Having near a full fit squad in such terrific form, with exciting young recruits and an old boy from Essendon training the place down, that it really is difficult to decide who should play.
Big year ahead, can't wait!.

Would be great, however I would rate Johnson (michael) Sandilands, grover, hayden, macpharlin, crowley, mundy, headland, tarrant ahead of him. And all of those mentioned need breakout years except hayden and grover for us to improve into the final winning team we want. Also Haselby needs a breakout year.

Hase for top two! And my buddy drum to play 8-12 games.

Not sure about that dom. A couple of seasons back (2005 maybe?) he played every game for the year.
