as much as it pains me to say it, i think it's malthouse. i know he has the best of facilities and the best of every expert at the club but i think he is just phenomonal in what he gets out of the pretty poor lost he's got and the way he's developed late draft picks and early ones too so early. but i guess not even he can make the pies win a flag.

Mark Thompson - anyone that can get their team to run on cruise control surely has it rapped up.

i believe the greatest part about mark thompsons success he has had as a coach, the thing which he deserves great recognition and respect for is his ability to develop a team from scratch, with no draft picks higher than number 7, into the class premiership team full of stars we have today:thumbsu:.

Might have no picks above 7, but has been very blessed to have had the Father-Son Selections he has had

Clarko.

Every player in the Hawthorn 22 (minus Sam Mitchell) is a utility player.

He has made the hard decisions and put his head and arse on the line for the club when nobody else would.

That is more then just a coach, that is a Teammate for the players

hey i found a pic of you, clarko and mitchell here: www.**********.org

I cannot believe several people have actually voted for Plough?! He is the most over-rated coach I have ever, ever seen in 35 years of following football and for the life of me I do not know how he still has a job. Perhaps the best coach playing the media but definitely not the best coach in the AFL!

For the record, I voted for Paul Roos based on the way he handles his team, the media and the public alike. He is a model coach. :thumbsu:

Matthews - unparalleled success - the only current coach with "Great" highlighted in his potential career rating. Amassed a side the likes of which hadn't been seen since the Hawks of the 80s. Even managed to win a premiership at the 'pies! Has 'rebuilt' without ever going down - but is unlikely to return to the top of the ladder anytime soon. His challenge may be to develop a side ready to blossom with a new coach in 2-3 seasons.

Malthouse - An expert at taking poor teams and making them good, or good teams to very good, but underachieved terribly with a virtual State team at the Eagles. His biggest challenge will be if he can develop a 'premiership winner' without dropping down the bottom of the ladder...

Clarkson - took an old, injury-prone, untalented, selfish group - tore them to shreds, and has built from the ground up a team that is increasingly looking like becoming a powerhouse of the competition - built through spirit, effort, teamwork and tactical/strategic innovations more than any individual talent. Blessed with the enviable talent of Franklin. His biggest test is now - can he 'steal' a premiership two years before they are "ready"?

Thompson - Struggled early on in his coaching with a previously successful team, but once rebuilt he has built a team that has climbed to the top of the tree, and shows no likelihood of dropping for at least another season or two - currently the only team peaking (agewise) still in contention. Blessed with the likes of Scarlett, Ablett and Blake as father-sons. His biggest test will come in 2010 when his senior players begin retiring.

Roos - Won a premiership with a list without much, everything he says or does has an alterior motive to benefit his club - is a VERY cagey customer. Won through 'old-fashioned' tough football rather than any tactical innovations, his biggest point of difference being the complete disregard for young players - preferring a solid team over the chance at picking up stars. Will be tested how he handles a rebuilding side, rather than one ready to/at/past it's peak.

My vote (bias of course) for right now is Clarkson - he's been more innovative, and improved more upon what he started with than any of the others.

Overall it has to be Matthews.

Wallace.

For being brave enough to take on a debilated list and an "eat their own" culture, and dare to clean it out and change it. Thompson, Matthews or Malthouse would never have dared. Sheedy never did and that speaks volumes.

Good onya Plough. :thumbsu:

Go Tigers

Malthouse... God that hurt:eek: Something positive about Collingwood but I guess he does have Tiger breeding behind him.
How can you go past a coach that takes a filthy team of hacks and somehow manages to make them competitive year after year, even when he has Rocca at CHF with his skirt on and a whole in his chest where his heart is meant to be.
