The main issue was not gender but more the ineptitude of both sides of politics. Labor did not lose 15 seats because they were led by Gillard.

The "deliberate" childlessness is presumably a reference to Tuckey's years-old deliberately barren comment that well-predates her rise to PM, while the other bits Greer were almost all contained in one Betina Arendt article that everyone dismissed in about 5 minutes as being the insane ramblings of a madwoman.

I mean, I think her gender did play a big role on the ordinary voter level, but not explicitly in the media coverage.

Precisely. Typical latte leftism. Complain about one thing for being immoral/wrong and then do it yourself in the next breath.

So she reckons that:
*Turnbull was the Libs' 'ablest and most charismatic politician'
*Abbott doesn't plan to do anything in regards to climate change
*Gillard's public speaking is decidedly more captivating than Rudd's
*Boatpeople are 'not a problem'
*Abbott's 'does no mean no?' line won him plenty of votes

How long has she been out of Australia?

The best summation I have read on the election was in the Herald Sun today. Terry McCrann basically points out that claims about this election being 'different' because of 'alienated' or 'disinterested' voters is garbage, given the combined first preferences for the major parties has moved only a couple of points.

As far as ex pat-Australians go i'd much rather have had Clive James write up his views on it all.

He'd do it better and with much more actual humour.

She is just trolling in an attempt to cause angst, get a bit of publicity and score web hits.

Interesting though, that in the odd occasion we rate a mention in the British and American press Australia has become the new soft target for over generalised bile or humour.

The same ire or lazy thinking/stereotyping that was directed at certain local minority groups, or other foreign nations (particularly China and Russia) in decades past, has now become the stock standard when discussing Oz.

I am as critical as the next person, but really at what point will characterising Australia as ignorant, racist, drunken and misogynistic become old hat.

It is the same lazy minded behaviour which has driven some of the more cringe worthy and abhorrent racist characterisations in media and popular culture.

Unashamedly hypocritical and lacking in self awareness, yet people still lap it up.
