Best. Giants. 22. Ever.

[Giant Blue]

Because I couldn’t sleep, I put together a best ever Giants line up.

I kept it to how a player has performed in the Giants era, from 2012 - 2018. So while Luke Power and Chad Cornes were greats of the game, they weren’t really that great in the Giants era. However, Stevie J did some amazing things for Giants, and for Geelong from 2012 to when he joined the Giants (2016?).

C: T Scully C. Ward L. Whitfield

HF: B. Delidio J. Cameron J. Kelly

FF: S. Johnson J. Patton T. Greene

F: S. Mumford D. Shiel S. Coniglio

I: A. Treloar T. Adams, D. Smith Z. Williams

Apologies: T. Boyd, R. Lobb, T. Taranto, D. Tyson, C. McCarthy, J. Bruce, J. Patfull

CHB was about the hardest position to select. I went with Tommo even though I am not convinced he is a great CHB, or that CHB is even his best position. Hombsch might be better, but to be honest I haven’t really watched him play.

Picking Patton at FF wasn’t easy either, especially given his last month. Sunshine, Boyd and Bruce are all a good option.

I’d really like to see Taranto, Finlayson, Kennedy, Hopper, Himmmelberg and Buntine get into that team in the next 12 months.

Interesting. There's no absolute and it's a good team.

I/C Treloar Williams WHE Taranto

Some will say it's too tall up forward but Cam is playing less and less as a specialist tall role and pretty comparable with Himmelburg to me. Just gets the nod on the basis of a few great games in 2015 and this year for Freo.

I didn't want to give Johnson a spot but he was crucial in 2016 at the pointy end. Deledio's best form is too old for me, but he could be by the end of the year if he stays fit.

Not a fan of the current fad for shortarses. 3 talls including second ruck. At least one has to be quick, and willing to chase. McCarthy and Cameron are.

Fair enough. I love what MDB has brought to the team and am happy to admit I was one of the first to WTF the decision to bring him in.

I think MDB is a fair call there's a lot of options. I'm a fan as well. With Johnson there a case can certainly be made defensive oressure has to be a focus elsewhere. I struggled with Lobb but couldn't have him and Patton in the same forward line.
