Interesting thread.

Jake Carlisle - Mal Michael - Michael Hibberd

Andrew Lovett - Scott Camporeale - Travis Colyer
Paul Chapman - Stewart Crameri - Mathew Stokes
Gary Moorecroft - John Coleman - Kyle Hardingham
John Barnes - Sam Lonergan - David Calthorpe

Players I've seen who are in the converstaion:

Ricky Olarenshaw
Mark Fraser

Che Cockatoo-Collins
Derek Kickett
Tayte Pears
Michael Prior
Kyle Reimers
Justin Madden

Neale Daniher makes the team (he was supposed to be the best of the 4).

He was the best.

Just not the longest.

As per post 2...I reckon John Coleman just shades Mitch Brown.

If we're including someone like Coleman, then definitely some other big names in the clubs history that should be considered.
  • Graham Moss - 84 games - Ruckman, Brownlow medallist and 3x B&F winner from four seasons at the club, ranked 17 in Champions of Essendon
  • Tom Fitzmaurice - 85 games - CHB, 3x B&F, 2x Premiership player, team of the century and ranked 10 in Champions of Essendon
  • Syd Barker - 57 games - Ruckman, snagged from lolnorf during the infamous disbanding. Considered the greatest lolnorf player ever, they named their B&F medal after an Essendon 2x Premiership player/coach
  • Harold Lambert - 99 games - HBF, 2x Premiership player, career cut short due to serving in WW2. Ranked 25 in Champions of Essendon
  • Geoff Blethyn - 84 games - Tall forward - kicked 216 goals in 6 seasons, including 107 in 1972, the first Bomber since John Coleman
  • Albert Thurgood - 46 games - Tall forward - Kinda cheating as not counting Essendon VFA games. A versatile gun who could play anywhere on the ground and one of the longest kicks ever. Premiership player and ranked 9 in Champions of Essendon

and great great uncle of Josh Thurgood.

I thought i would have a go at a side with players to play less than 100 games, play them all at Essendon and i have to have seen them play (1982 onwards).

You end up with a few odd players out, a very interesting lineup and it's actually really difficult.

I wind up with

B: B McNiece P Weston A Henneman
HB N Daniher T Pears K Hardingam
C P Hills L Baker A Lovett
HF Cransberg Gumbleton Sporn
F Jetta Werner Reimers
Foll Laycock J Merrett Antrobus
I O'Connor D Flood Slattery
N O Brien

It really isnt an easy task if you rule out guys who havent played anywhere else.

Nobody has mentioned Peter Berbakov. I loved that guy
He was one of my favourites, but he is one of many I have fond memories of, yet can’t specifically remember them, how good they were and how they played (as I was young).

Seems like a good time to ask (but maybe not the right thread and could possibly be its own thread / added to another thread?), I’d love and appreciate if people were to give their take on the sort of player (maybe who they play like), how good they were etc. for the following players who I have varying levels of memories of:

Peter Berbacov

Peter Cransberg

Gary O’Donnell

Justin Blumfield

Chris Heffernan

Ben Doolan

Peter Somerville

Barry Young

Ricky Olerenshaw

David Calthorpe

Sean Denham

John Barnes

The Carlton trio: Murphy, Camporeale and Allan.

Are there any current players who play in a similar way? I've only seen highlights here and there so hard to get a grasp of the type of player he was.

It's weird...i'd be interested to see what others say, but the first player I thought of was Nat Fyfe. The thing about Neale was that he always seemed to have plenty of time, read the play well & could play anywhere.
