So, does today's effort mean the Bears are further advanced in their rebuild?

No - of course not.

I don't suppose we're a better team than the Giants because we beat them earlier this year?

Today was not a good day but we're still a game and 10% ahead of them where it matters most.

Pressure Acts on Average were down by -2 per player on last week (and last week wasnt an amazing game anyway in terms of pressure). Metres gained was up by 20m per player (keen to know if people think our game plan may have been switched up a bit and we took brisbane for granted a bit).

Murphy, SPS and Kerridge had season bests for Metres Gained and Curnow for Pressure Acts (more midfield and wing minutes this week). Everyone else was either average or below (some well below) their bests in Pressure. We clearly went up to the Gabba for a holiday and its starting to become a pattern. We should get 2 games V brisbane next year to make up for this one with our small rivalry occurring will our list regeneration.

I think the core of the game plan remained, but tactics certainly changed given the low level of pressure acts across the board. Perhaps Bolts will continue to be less defensive for the rest of the year which could allow for some surprises either way

The game highlighted our biggest list weakness imo, the total lack of quality between the ages of 23 and 28. If they're ahead it's because Beams/Rockliff/Zorko will be their mature mids while we're desperately scrambling to replace Murphy/Gibbs/Kreuzer.

Mr_Plow will give us some further analysis, but I can't go without mentioning Charlie who has had another big jump on the back of yet another hugely impressive performance.

I said last week Charlie would soon be inside the top 400 - he's now smashed through that barrier and continues to rise at a rapid rate. Forget YTD movment, the kid has jumped up over 100 spots in the rankings over the past month. He has to be one of the in-form players across the competition right now.

I told you to forget them, but here they are regardless...

This is a post that will be dedicated to one man: Charlie Curnow.

What a man.

As J mentioned, 100 spots in 5 weeks, truly unprecedented.
In that 5 week span he has averaged 15 AFL ranking points.

Guys, that's Buddy territory. Not even joking.

He started the year as our 33rd ranked player, he is now 15th and climbing.

If supporters wanted a reason to come to the footy for the next 10 years, this is the guy. I would go as far to say that the reset actually hinges on how good Charlie becomes, because nobody will be able to go with him, as simple as that.

A true franchise talent.

. . .

Again, Kerridge features in our discussion. He may yet become a member of our midfield for the next few years if he keeps this level of production consistently. I thought his ball use was much better this week, going at 78%, and he was relatively damaging with 500+ metres gained.

. . .

Big Harry McKay gets the 3rd spot here.

An impressive debut for the 203cm key forward, who really only played 3 quarters of football after running out of gas in the Brisbane heat/humidity.

It's not often a debutant KPF commands presence, but this guy has it.

3 contested marks, 6 marks in total, 1 goal (should've had 2 or 3 really, he knows what he needs to work on) and 6 score involvements, which is quite impressive, shows that with his offensive IQ he can be a key link in the chain resulting in a scoring opportunity.

Given that Charlie has already established himself as the alpha male in the forward line, there is less pressure on Harry to be the franchise-altering talent. Nonetheless, for the sake of Malifice's desires to have multiple elite key forwards, Harry's development is also pivotal for the success of the reset.

Great work Jeremias !

Stats can be deceiving and should always be accompanied by vision of every game, to support an accurate analysis. Given we have all of that, at our disposal, it is difficult to make a compelling case to retain many of the players that have had a negative number season, with exceptions being afforded to Pickett, Polson and Byrne

You trying to tell us something about Gibbs

I think it's going remarkably well. We can gnash our teeth over individual results, but our competitiveness across the season is miles ahead of recent years.

We've traded the right players and extracted good value. We appear to have selected the right players at the draft table. We've built a recognised game plan that plays to our strength. Three ticks.

The club hasn't sold false hope. It's panning out pretty well as forecast. The W column isn't the focus, but competitiveness and game style is. Culturally we appear to have turned a corner, and club unity is the strongest it has been in recent memory. More ticks.

We've a great defensive foundation with the added bonus of unearthing Jones as one of the premier mobile KPDs in the game. We can see that Charlie, Jack and Harry will be the makings of a forward line given time. Our problem areas are clear, and in reality the easiest to address.

We are also well placed in terms of succession (outside of Kreuzer). The plan doesn't rely on Gibbs, Murphy or Simpson and we've recognised young leaders ready to take the reins.

And whilst I don't want the ignominy of another spoon, it doesn't actually change anything should it happen.

I'm not as passionate as I once was which is no bad thing. Means you can move on from a loss and see what it actually happening. Most of my joy comes from watching the little bloke fall in love with the club. He's got more passion at 7 than I think I ever had.

What if we fall away next year as well,is that acceptable ?

It's an interesting one...

We've played about 7 guys a week this season who we've drafted in the past 18 months (and I reckon at least 3 first-year players in that 7), in addition to the 5-7 other "youth" players. That's approx. two-thirds of our team that are under 24 years of age playing per week - remarkable.

The draftees over the past couple of seasons will still be pretty raw next year too and will take a few pre-seasons to build their tanks. The fact that we supporters have such high expectations of them every week and that they're actually delivering is amazing.

I can't speak for everyone but I reckon the "kids" are showing up some of the more seasoned players in our team this season (no disrespect to them at all) and I feel safer with the ball in their hands than the older players - prime exhibits - C. Curnow, Marchy, SPS, Cuners, etc...

Yes, they're beginning to tire out now and that's expected.

Will it be acceptable next season? I don't know - only the inner CFC will know those KPIs.

But I do know if they develop like Crippa, Doc, and co. have (and purely by the stats, they are delivering more than they did at the same age), we are in for one hell of a rise up the ladder sooner rather than later!

We just have to sit back, trust Bolts and SOS, and enjoy the ride! Exciting time to be on the Blues!

Maybe Jeremias or Mr_Plow may know this.

Is there any way to look at the AFL ranking points for the Rising Star eligible players to see the amount of points they have averaged this year. Specifically, it would be good to compare Curnow with SPP, McGrath, Burton. I think he would now be pretty close to those three and if his form continues for the remainder of the year would overtake them.

Not too sure if this helps:-
