And you thought we'd seen the last of Blake on these forums!

Thoughts? While generally reviled against by most Cats fans (unfairly imo) would be a good pick up for GWS, should give reliable taps.

Mostly shocked he finished with B&F in a league this year. Any country league.

Anyway, best of luck to one of our premiership players.

Good tap ruck-man useless around the ground. Good luck to him perhaps a bit of time in the minor leagues will have helped his ball winning and using abilities.

Should we chase Giles?

Someone must know the full story , the true facts.

Some are blinded to the facts about Blake , but one fact is he held his own against Gardnier in a GF that we won. One fact is , if we still had him at the club , we would not need to be chasing a bandage machine like HM , not to mention if we had played him for one more game we would have FS options in years to come.
To me , GFC have let the lunatics run the asylum when it come to Blake and to some degree this is the result. Is that a good thing , was he so much of a detrimental effect we had to get him out? Some one knows and one day we will find out I suppose.

I thought he might have been a chance to go to GWS last year at least as back up, good luck to him I hope he does go and play a few games. He is still young and could play for a while yet, the biggest problem with Blake is not that his work around the ground is not good enough it's his attitude.
If he had a better attitude and was prepared to work harder on his game he'd still be at Geelong.

I know people love to rip into him, but is there any evidence for this? Not just speculation? To me he was a 1980s/1990s player in the wrong era for his kind of ruckman. Simple as that. If all you wanted was a good tap ruckman he'd get a game anywhere. Unfortunately for him the game demands more now.

What I want to know is why GWS won't pay Giles what he wants? It's not like they don't have the room in the cap.

All seems very odd to me.

I lol'd.

What a rubbish rumour.

Not so sure about that, PO. If his name was 'Joe Bloggs', he'd played ~100 AFL games (and won a premiership), was still only 27 and had come off a dominant season at country level (winning the league B&F), would he generate some interest? Personally, I've got no doubt he would, particularly with so many teams looking for immediate depth at the position, rather than waiting five years for an U18 draft pick to develop.

Personally, I was surprised he retired in the first place.

Good luck to him if he gets a second chance.

Nothing against Blakey, I wish him well.

I'd just be staggered that GWS were struggling that much to replace Giles that this was what they had to do.

If he gets a gig, good on him.

I guess my point is if it was a player with the same CV as Mark Blake, not only would other clubs be taking a long look at him, we'd probably be taking a long look at him. Plenty of sides that could use an experienced third/fourth ruckman to come straight in and do the job, should injuries hit.

Pretty much, but I wonder if Blake sees it the same way. He saw the best and worst of a career in the AFL and he'd hardly be the first fringe player to decide that he'd rather just have good fun in a country league.

+1

Hope he does well.
Was always a good tap ruckman but just a poor user of the footy.

This part is true. Blakey is a bit of a dinosaur as he is an old fashioned ruckman in a game where rucks need to be rovers/forwards as well. I thought that he was treated pretty shabbily by the club, and especially by many in this forum.

I really hope he gets a gig at GWS and he does a great job just to stick it up all those that unfairly maligned him when he gave 100% every time he ran out on the ground in the hoops.
