The rest who tried to lay tackles couldn’t stick one to save themselves. Our tackles were woeful today, let Carlton get away or hands free way to often.

Not to mention the stuck tackles that WERE NOT PAID. Theirs were. Frustrating and Demoralising.

Very disappointing game and next week will be worse against a quality team, I’m petrified of what Daicos will do to our midfield next week. Jye Clark to be sent back to the VFL for the year, much prefer Clohesy than him.
I thought Humphries, COS,Smith, Atkins and Mannagh (apart from a couple things) played well. Holmes really needs help to shake a tag, he can’t handle it, mind you a lot of our players looked second rate today.

So frustrating to watch :-
Every time Cats looked to be breaking clear
the 19th man bobbed up and blew a whistle.
When Cats did get clear they still messed up.
They say you make your own luck...however
Things never clicked, the plight of inexperience

This game will be expunged from memory
Just like the the Blues game last year was.
Redemption is a short six days away.

Disposal and decision making absolutely woeful all game. At least the intensity finally arrived after 3/4.

Clark, Neale and Mullin aren’t AFL players I’m afraid.

I actually saw signs in Clark today. Some of the decision making and the defensive intent is clearly afl standard. But he's got to be able to play higher minutes and fix his tank this TOG is not sustainable.
Mullin probably will never be an afl player.
Neale could be but urgently needs a sports psychologist. That contest where he created the spill for the close goal is what he didn't do all day and has to do every time. It's not his fault Henry and Cameron aren't reliable in aerial contests but he needs to be or we need to find another answer. Someone needs to have a real talk with him.

2 free kicks in a f*cking half of football. Bowes knocked out in mid air with no touch on the football from Haynes. Weitering holding on to Danger and then slinging him to the ground. Neale getting the free against when Weitering got him high. Holding the ball no matter what we did, but they could get swung around in a Tony Hawk 900, drag it in, take on the tackler, and do whatever the f*ck they wanted, and we were not given a holding the ball decision.

Honestly. That is corruption right there. I don't know what the result would have been, but we were 10-1 in clearances, and they were shitting themselves. Free kick count of 20-11, and 12 to them to our 2 despite us having 3 less tackles for the match.

Go f*ck yourself umpires and Carlton. I'm so f*cking furious.
Chris Scott's presser should be interesting

I hope he doesn't let up

Clark can spend the whole rest of the season in the VFL. He's miles off the pace and has shown absolutely nothing in any of his 20 games at AFL level. People will say he's still young, but 20 games is a big enough sample size (it's close to a full home and away season) to expect to have at least seen flashes of AFL quality, and he hasn't even been able to do that. If he's able to dominate every week in the VFL and (more importantly) show signs of development, then let him see out his contract and have one last crack at it next year. Otherwise, put him on the trade table at the end of the season.

Too small.

Recruiting staff really should have been onto that.

I think with his size now we should have seen a break out game. He just lacks fundamental understanding and feel for the game. I’m not sure that will ever develop.
Needs a juicy game against nrof or WCE, I guess playing in a mainly strong side against other contenders in a fairly even group of sides it's never that easy. Tigger, nrof and WCE are a lot worse than the other sides who all can turn it on and play very well if in the mood. But it would be good if he can crash a pack a little more. Jezza's handball to Neale in the last was not a good call, just mung it along the ground so Stengle, Close, Mannagh can run onto it. And we concede far too many intercept marks for my liking.

We really need a bloody ruckman and quickly.
De Koning did as he pleased.

Dangerfield was terrific. Smith, Humphries and Atkins.

I wonder when Henry returns, we try putting Humphries into the middle?
He could be another Simon Black the way he operates.

With JK likely back next week, wonder if we'll move Stewart into the guts like we saw last year?

The interesting thing I noticed in the first quarter was Mullin starting up on the wing and playing further to the ground - it's a move I don't hate, but think I'd like to see him play that role in the VFL for a period before throwing him there long term in the seniors

Oh heck- another 6 day turnaround. Pretty tough draw actually. Pies coming off 8. Really have to stand up next week. Kolo in. Stewart needs a rest. Comon cats. Give the lads the week off Scotty!

Stewart's best days are behind him. Has lost pace and his body not holding up. Luckily O'Sullivan is picking up the slack. Our backline is the least of our problems.

Our backline is still a problem-mullin wouldn't be playing if we had the problem sorted.

But the midfield is a glaring issue.

Neale is a tough one to call, feel like he's a negative for us, but shows glimpses of a forward and we really don't have anyone else so whatever. Clark, Mullin, OH, SDK, Dempsey to an extent and Close, can't carry all these guys. COS and Humphries look the goods.

Disappointing but not altogether unexpected loss.

The Blues match up well against us and have a good recent record as our opponent.

We looked flat early; Patrick Cripps is always a difficult proposition for Geelong, particularly with Paddy Dangerfield spending more time up forward, and our midfield really lowered their colours early on despite the typically fierce efforts of Tom Atkins.

Bailey Smith got enough of the ball but wasn’t as composed as he has been previously.

Also, the defensive side of his game was exposed in that 1st half. I thought he corrected this to a large degree in the last quarter, sticking several good tackles and showing good defensive discipline, so he can tighten up if his focus is right.

Max Holmes had a very quiet 1st half and looked a little leary of Carlton’s bigger bodies at times. He worked into the game ok but his physicality wasn’t quite at the required level for much of the day.

Zac Guthrie was unusually fumbly and his overhead work in the marking contests wasn’t as assured as we’ve come to expect. He has become so dependable; this was the rare stinker.

Tom Stewart is playing half-lame and it is predictably affecting his game. He aggravated an already-hampered left knee early in the game, and just hasn’t looked as fast, nor can he jump as high.
Despite this I actually thought he fought his way into the game pretty bravely.

The last quarter surge only to fall short is a scenario we have seen play out plenty of times under Chris Scott - we don’t often get into such a dire position on the scoreboard, but generally we’re able to close the margin pretty dramatically with a high-risk last quarter.
But it is probably fitting that we weren’t quite able to climb out of the hole that we’d dug for ourselves.

Umpires weren’t great.

Annoying to see Lachie Fogarty kicking two rare goals against us.

Jeremy Cameron a very late-career Stevie J type game, very good one moment, exasperatingly bad the next.

The Season really could go anywhere for Geelong from here; we know we have a good Coach and experienced heads around to keep things on course but the midfield is thin - Mannagh and Stengle rotated through with some degree of success later in the game today and perhaps that’s something we can expect to see more of in the coming weeks.

Ollie Henry isn't really sub material.

100 % this. Was obvious today. Allowed their ball movement between umpires and our lack of strength in the tackle.

I do too - come to think of it.

Reminds me a bit of Charlie Constable - can get his hands on it but too slow and a tank the size of a coke can

Umps were crap but we lost the game with poor skills, being fumbly and poor choice with ball in hand.

I agree, Clark looks like another first round draft failure at this stage. Clark today had 10 disposals at 50% efficiency! He cancelled himself out. You know depth is a serious problem when Clark, Wiltshire and Ohenry are in the team. The step down from our AFL team to our VFL team is a lot more than in previous years.

O'Sullivan with a few kgs extra muscle will be a monster player. Like all young defenders he gets beaten occasionally but crazy to watch him and see he's only in game 8(?).
Yeah absolutely. And he hates getting beaten. He's going to be unreal

CS has always said that it's not who you play, but when you play them that truly matters.

Couldn't have summed up today any better. Carlton off two training runs against rubbish teams and a 9-day break against a Geelong side with three less days to prepare after a traditionally tough Easter Monday clash. One looked fresher, sharper and hungrier, while the other looked lethargic and lazy.

Our disposal was as bad as Cameron Ling, Jobe Watson and Campbell Brown are commentators. The missed targets by foot and hand at crucial moments killed us. But considering we probably spent minimal time on prep and all on recovery this week, it's not a huge surprise.

4-3 isn't panic stations by any stretch, but it makes the next month vitally important to our top 4 chances. Pies, Giants, Port and Dogs are all finals contenders and we probably need to win 2-3 of them to remain in the hunt for a top 4 finish.
