Strange how not a single one of the "injuries" was assessed as anything serious. As early as Monday North said they would all be playing this week. 5 injuries i was told, and that it cost them the game.
No "in doubt", no "test".
All confirmed lining up this week. Even Hansen is fine. Ziebell was just a bruise, Swallows wrist was minor.
A tough committed bunch, after the siren.

Leigh Adams and Swallow, two very important players, well below their best.

To be fair DoP Swallow has only slipped since Picken fell across his knee. There is something wrong with him no doubt, but he is out there & should be measured against his own standard & currently he is short of that.

hard to say exactly what is wrong with north, perhaps they don't run deep enough in enough areas.
There's definitely an argument that the list contains a number of players that just haven't the aggression/smarts/stature to get this side to click. Since the umpires stopped giving frees to swallow he doesn't influence games as a captain should. Too meek for an in and under captain with shonky foot skills. Leigh Adams is exposed for length and regularly misses tackles or the game by inches. Harvey can be run through as well. Grima and Wells play 'nice' footy, Hansen effective loose with marking but hasn't the smarts or aggression for this to stand up long term, Thomas faking, diving and mid season antics also hurt the club, Gibson not a player you can afford getting 25+ when swallows about, and Petrie hasn't yet proven his actual footy smarts match his courage.

Apart from the list shortcomings, Brad Scott is equal portions salesman, coach and deluded. The over rotation of the midfielders combined with lack of rotating the talls shows he's still an apprentice coach who will organically grow his project rather than make it happen. To be honest Paul Roos could take this list far but combined with some of the list denial and overrated north assistants, this will be a long process to achieve footscray or st kilda type results.

If it wasn't for Chris Scott, Brad would be under a lot more pressure. He's riding the coattails and using smoke screens to hide the fact he's turned a pretty good list into a bit of a mediocre joke.

'Who would've thought North used to choke all the time, lost their spirit and finished 9th all those years but now what a powerhouse under Brad Scott they've become, looking at back to back flags'.

Just not gonna happen.

North have a good, solid list with no defensive gameplan and they get found out. Brad Scott is Matthew Knights mk II, but hasn't got the developmental qualities that Knighter has

Knights no defence policy resulted in thrashings. North have failed to close out games with winning leads this year, that's a big difference, considering the last couple of years where we have been touched up there is a marked improvement in our best & worst results.
Having said that there is also a disparity between our best & worst within the same games this year, notably late in games. Fitness is the issue here.

North currently have the 10th most points against this year & considering the fade outs are within 100 points of having the 3rd best defence. Hardly the Matthew Knights syndrome you speak of with 1 way football.

it makes no real difference because North are not that relevant to be honest, they just make up the numbers.

He has not had the resources or cattle to do as much as say his brother. He speaks well in the media when he is not sooking, but they dont seem to play their list much, they overrate what they have perhaps? Who knows.

On friday night this week, how exciting to see them play on the big stage.. might watch the cricket

NORTH Melbourne ruckman Todd Goldstein says he feels "stuffed" late in games but he's determined to soldier on with minimal time spent on the interchange bench.
Goldstein has played all 15 matches for the Kangaroos in 2013 and has been rotated off the field only 20 times, which is the least of any ruckman in the competition.

Doesnt reflect well on Scott when the number one ruck is complaining about exhaustion. Why hasnt Daw got more games and why did they bother recruiting Curran? Why isnt Petrie chipping in?

I think one of North's biggest problems is their Captain Swallow, hes a great talent that's for sure but how this guy escapes scrutiny is beyond me he dives and drops his knees falls on his stomach as soon as he feels contact hes bloody soft while I do realise there are divers but please watch the game tonight and just watch how soft he really is.

As a Richmond member, this game just solidifies what i think about scott and harwick, they both have such great strengths bur their weaknesses are so pronounced it is laughable. At least with Freo, Ross, realise that they need to kick more goals , with North and the Tigers both coaches have their heads in the sand. Do you think James Hird would be a great cach without Bomber...

Fair to say a lack of ruck depth cost them the game tonight. Goldstein can play, but he looked buggered out there.

Thats no excuse. If Scott had half a brain he woudve rotated Goldy and Petrie in the ruck a little more just to keep the big man fresh. Kruezer was all over Goldy in that last quarter and Goldy couldnt go with him. In a one point game little things like that can make all the difference. Scott is putting too many nails in his own coffin the way he is coaching

Oh I agree, I think Scott is a terrible coach, and anyway, list management and picking the side is in part his role.

If Daw or Currie aren't in the side next week to help take the load of Goldstein, well, you'd have to start wondering what he's actually watching in the coaches box. It's becoming blatantly obvious to everyone except Scott it seems and even if he finally clues on he's probably left it too late.

Goldstein could be a real weapon with his ruckwork if he was managed correctly, they just can't afford to have him running on empty late in games especially when it's close, which appears to be an awful lot of the time for North.

They were probably a little too hasty extending him to such a long contract, the big Brad Scott test will be to see what he learns from the many mistakes of this season and if he's able to turn it around in 2014.

Scott's issues, including his stubbornness and complaining at umpires are obvious. But you can't do much about shit decision-making, which North players show again and again. 30 seconds to go in a match and one of your players bombs the ball in the vicinity of the opposition ruck. Baffling.
