I'll pose a question.

What is the course of action when thousands of members lose interest, faith, and decide they will not be renewing their memberships?

The game plan doesn't work, there is no plan B, so instead of waiting for Ratts to develop one that does, and wait for the team confidence to increase in order to aptly learn and execute it (before hoping it even wins us games), why not replace him, make a stand, make the players feel the severity of the situation and grow professionally, completely eradicate complacency, all the while getting someone in the position who will implement a plan that will utilise our team's stengths, improve development, and finally take us to where we all know we should be.

With the media and majority of Carlton folk discussing this and a lot losing faith in Ratten, something will have to give if there isn't a dramatic turn around (which is unlikely).

PS i know injuries have hit, but all that does is prompt the questions on the development of kids who can aptly fill the spots. I wonder how west coast can have greater depth when they began a rebuild in 07?

Perhaps still having several of their 2006 premiership side running around helps. Their rebuild began around about 2000 & they went back to the well again in 2009/2010. Our rebuild realistically began in 2005.

FWIW, should West Coast have sacked Woosha when they bottomed out so soon after their 2006 premiership? The list that bottomed out still contained (as does their current list) Cox, Kerr, Glass, Lynch, A Selwood, Embley, Waters, Butler, Nicoski, Rosa.

West Coast have one of the most well resourced recruiting departments in the AFL, and their recruiting has been exceptional. Can't say the same for ours unfortunately. Recruiting is the most important aspect of a football club. While we targeted the best CEO in Swann, the best player in the AFL in Judd, we did not do the same with our recruiting department. Were happy to settle for blokes that had been at Freo (who have just done so well with their recruiting). It has set us back years.

I guess they didn't tank to receive priority picks in 2008 and 2010 on top of receiving Kennedy from Carlton. They did well to get four maybe five of their picks in these two drafts right by selecting Naitanui, Shuey, Gaff, Darling and Lycett. Good addition to the senior core that played in their last flag.

It's their ability to develop talent that has turned them into a top side again.

There's nothing exceptional about Mitch Brown, Chris Masten, Tony Notte, Tom Swift, Koby Stevens, Ashley Smith and Brad Sheppard who aren't household names. Think Ashley Smith is fit, yet he can't get a game ahead of McGinnity who was a rookie pick in the 2007 draft. You could use hindsight to say they could have done better with these selections. They'd have a better list if they had picked Kurt Tippett, Patrick Dangerfield, Tayte Pears, Dayne Beams, Mitch Duncan, Mitch Robinson/Rory Sloane and Nate Fyfe.

We didn't settle for anything with our recruiters. The club wouldn't hesitate to sack Rogers and Hughes if they weren't any good. You're living in denial if you think any business would keep someone employed if they were a dud. Think before you shoot your mouth off.

Everyone goes on about how Carlton's recruitment should not be blamed, but rather we should instead focus on the development of players. Well the inability of Carlton to develop talent did not stop Simmo developing into a gun (not a Hughes pick of course). It did not stop Murphy developing into a gun. It did not stop Fev (off field issues aside).

Development can only go so far. In my opinion our recruiting has not been a strength, and I was bemused that Hughes and Rogers basically swapped roles (has that ever happened before?). Who would want to go from being head recruiter to a recruiter without the final say? (Which is what I gather has happened to Hughes). Maybe Hughes couldn't get the head recruiter gig at another club? Why is that?

Recruitment is the hardest issue to address because if you admit it hasn't gone that well, you have to face up to the fact that means previous drafts have been wasted. Tackling coaching issues are easy because you have the belief that if you turf out the coach and bring in a Malthouse or Roos, then things can get fixed overnight. Addressing recruitment is not popular, and it was held off for too long. That Hughes no longer has the final say is absolutely fantastic in my opinion. But it happened far too late. Imagine if he didn't have the final say since 2005...Better late than never but failing to act sooner has in my opinion set us back.

Marginal support at board level so bye bye
White-anting cruelled our club from 2003-2007. I see there are some who are prepared to give it another bash. People who white-ant their own club sit very low in my estimation. You wouldn't be Lauraine Diggins, or one of her supporters would you?

Yeah we heard this kind of shite from the Heatley Stand and he has now disappeared because his reputation was shot to pieces. Seems you are set to follow him. Yarran still whining?, you are the person to ask I hear.

Can't see any point in rumours about the board's support of Rattan. Doesnt help the club in any way. We were in a massive hole after Port and have improved and can still make the 8 so I can't see any point or worth of rumours like this.

End of year review is all that is needed if we don't advance deep into September.

On a humorous note, did any else here the 3AW Rumour file this morning.

Guy rang in to say a reporter was camped outside an AFL ground for hours last night hoping to get an exclusive from the the clubs board meeting.

Only problem was that the board meeting was being held at another location.

Must admit my first thought was Carlton !!

Paul Roos didn't flatly deny interest in coaching in 2013. He will be at Carlton - this is a strong rumour. It must be the On the Couch seat.

He will be ideal to take Carlton to next level which Ratten is struggling to do.

Roos said "the answer would be no".

Pretty concrete I would've thought.

If I remember some bloke by the name of James Hird denied he would coach when he was part of On The Couch
Yep, he lied his ass of for weeks and Roo's has lied for years when it has come to trade targets, draft selections etc.

Hird telling lies cost the Bombers dearly also.... they lost Patrick Smith as a supporter! :D

Yeah, maybe. But I get a sense that Roos doesnt like Carlton. He was a Carlton fan as a kid then played for Fitzroy and saw first hand what a bunch of pricks Carlton were in relation to Fitzroy playing home games at Princes Park. I always remember him ridiculing the Blues as Sydney coach. Who knows.

Much prefer Roos . I think the way the game is progressing you need to come up with a new game plan about every 18 rounds :) and Roos seems to be the type of lateral thinker that could do this.

Plus he seems also to have the players play for him which is vital to get the most out of our list.

All is not lost - we still have the basis of a premiership list.

Romour comes from someone with links to the club
This doesn't mean it will pan out this way but it's worth posting because if the links to club
I have two links to the club
By the way Rumour is CFC chasing Roos as opposed to its in the bag done deal
Wise move in my view as Roos innovated whereas Malthouse just stole Lyons game plan
And Malthouse is too old
He'd get the best out of players and harden to sheep dogs up but then so would Roos

Belongs in the "Rumour File".

Rumour File #9

I am really looking forward to being near full strength vs the pies and hawks as I suspect we can defeat them.

What this will highight is how bad Ratten is, our inability to show any signs of covering injuries highlights how poor our structures and game plan are.

Fortunately our best 22 is elite enough to make up in part for what has to be the worst coach in living memory.

Go blues.
