Carlton came close to folding 20 years ago I remember they had to sell games to Queensland to make money.

Not quite that I recall. They were in bad shape and looking at the AFL paying (paying back the fine, really) and foisting themselves on the board.

Carlton came close to folding 20 years ago I remember they had to sell games to Queensland to make money. Fast forward to today and Carlton are a financially strong club none of the current custodians of Carlton were there 20 years ago and the 2023 finals series served as a reminder of Carlton having a huge supporter base despite all and sundry saying they'd lost an entire generation of support. Similar story to Richmond it was said they'd lost an entire generation of support but the 2017-2020 era reminded everyone how big Richmond are.

Blues have far too many members to ever fold. AFL would bail them out x10 over before letting losing the massive cash cow that is the Blues fan base.

Perhaps the Blues could just buy the Roos like previously, which would then allow them access to plenty of young talent... which would free up a side for Tasmania's entry.

There were news reports saying Carlton were close to folding and Joffa was wearing a Carlton jumper trying to do his part to save Carlton. They're a financially strong club these days and one of the most valuable AFL brands despite not winning a premiership for 30 years so imagine the scenes on Lygon Street if Carlton win a flag it will probably be a bigger street party than 2017 on Swan Street after Richmond won.

Brian Cook laid some solid groundwork during his stint at Carlton the decision to keep Voss for 2026 was a sign of the coterie groups no longer having as much control as they once did.
