Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Sam Shaw, Dylan Grimes are still available Quigs if you are looking to take a KPP. If you want to go out on a limb there is Casboult as well.
Weedon and Delborello also attractive picks at this stage.

Looks like a better version of Yarren and Stokes put together.
Could this guy slide to 47? I've never heard of him.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Casboult is an interesting one. Do you think he can convert to a KP?

I have absolutely no doubt. He could be a dominant KP. He is still very raw. Massive upside potential. Tippet was raw but look how he developed.

i think he would struggle to be honest as a kp think if theres question marks over players such as temel being a man playing agaist boys then levi would match that catagorie deffintley although he can play just think his got no physical development left in him

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Quigs - given your 2nd choice would you now look back & reconsider your 1st choice? eg. Crichton/Thomas.

If this really happended I would find it a little odd if we selected 2 forward pockets with our 1st two picks. Both are quite reliant on their ability to mark for their size, & given we are hoping for natural improvement from Rockliff & Cornelius I am not sure that we require further of this type.

If they were quick defensive forwards, & natural crumbers (a good version of Hooper) it would make more sense to me, but neither seem to fill this role to me.

Yeh perhaps. I am looking like I might be a little out of whack balance wise this draft and the likes of Thomas or Crichton and Dennis-Lane certainly looks better for our team on paper. I could always just say I am picking best available no matter the position :p

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

would you be happy to take ball with 27 quigs?
Yes I think he is definately worth that. He would definately have a point to prove and is the physical in and under type we could use. His body is the main issue but Voss seems to be really backing his fitness staff in this respect. His disposal is not fantastic but not terrible and he could be a very nice compliementary player for us. I do not think he will be a star.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Ball is reputedly asking 500k a year.

A.He's not worth that.

B.We can't afford it.

Surely that's you answer right there.

Dons or Pies, I'd reckon.

Lyon dropped him because is a bad kick. He turns it over > 50% of the time coming out of defence. The way the Saints, and most good sides play, is that as soon as they win clear possession in the back half, every man spreads, and gets as far away from their opponent as possible as fast as possible. You have to hit that target, or it's a shot on goal.

$500K? Surely not

afl.com.au says:

Decision made: Ball ends career at St Kilda

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

I recall reading that it was $500k over two years so $250K per year. Could be wrong though.

My number 2 option for my next pick has just gone in the phantom. I was seriously considering Mick Barlow. My description below.

Mick Barlow (Werribee Tigers, VIC)
Height: 189cm, Weight: 92kg, DOB: 21 years old

Surely will be given a chance this year after being the runner up in the JJ Liston, winning the Fothergill Medal in the VFL and smashing the Werribee B&F. 4 of the last 5 winners of the Fothergill have gone on to play AFL (Firrito, Aaron Davey, Valenti and Nahas) and everything about Barlow screams that he can play at the AFL level and do it well. He is only 21 and it is not like things have passed him by and there is no potential for improvement. He has been at Werribee for only two years training on a semi-professional basis whilst attending Uni. He is a ball magnet averaging over 30 possessions a game this year in the VFL and is quite simply a running machine capable of getting the ball at will. When he gets the ball he also uses it well displaying very nice skills. This is not just a runner who can’t hit the side of a barn. He has a lot of football smarts about him and works to the right spots and takes pretty good options once he gets the ball. He started off playing as a half forward flanker and that is where he is likely to start in the AFL but he has played some midfield this year for Werribee and even some CHF which he is able to do in the VFL given his height. For a running player he has very nice height and combine that with his running ability and you have once guy very difficult to match up on. Defensively he has shown an ability to keep an opposition quiet and with his running ability he could well start his career as a tagger who can hurt his player going the other way. He tested at the Vic State Screening and did particularly well going at 15 in the beep test (that was expected) and 2.89 in the 20m (this was definitely not expected). I have seen it reported that he lacks a yard or two of pace but the stop watch seems to be saying something else. Provided the 20m time was not a mistake there is certainly plenty of pace to work with there and a team could feel very comfortable looking at ways to bring his pace more into his game. His agility test was not great and neither were his one foot jumps although he was pretty good off two feet. There has been pretty solid talk of Barlow getting picked up by someone since the middle of the year and I am pretty sure someone will take him. Lets face facts he has done everything anyone could possibly ask of him and is in reality banging down the AFL door. If he does not get selected more than a few Vic based scouts should take a long hard look at themselves.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

No doubt Astbury needs to work on his speed off the mark - he admits it himself in an interview on afl.com.au - but he tested while injured at draft camp. He'd had his wisdom teeth out the week before camp, then strained his hamstring slightly but he didn't want to sit out the tests. He should have, but you'll note most of his results were too bad to be true. Give him credit for wanting to compete, and those who matter know the results arent worth the paper they are written on.

I think you need to be careful when just looking at data without knowing the whole story.

HIS nickname is the "Lajamanu Lightning Bolt", and some Darwin football judges rate him a more exciting prospect than his Walpiri cousin, Demons sensation Liam Jurrah.

Liam Patrick, 21, has been courted by at least four AFL clubs in the lead-up to this month's draft.

Hawthorn and Melbourne are believed to be interested in the 185cm goalkicking utility, while the Brisbane Lions and North Melbourne are said to have been monitoring his form.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

My latest selection in the phantom - Myles Sewell. Another mature aged guy who can come in and play straight away. A hard at it in and under who plays a lot like his brother. I think he would suit what we are trying to do.
