We're getting some good talent through, though I'm still disappointed that the AFL turned down our request for a priority pick again.

Personally, I see the Lions having lost too much early talent to make a decent run of it now. We've got some good up and comers, but not enough to be competitive in September. Schache the latest - effectively lost for Toby Wooller (pick in the 40s) and a minor pick upgrade. We still haven't had a top 5 draft pick who has make it to their 3rd season on our list. We'll progress up the ladder as the team get older - might make it as high as the top 8... Then back down for another rebuild when Zorko and Beams retire in the next few years.

And Gil will continue to be generally pleased about the state of AFL in Queensland.

I dont think Brisbane re s bad as some people think. I have seen their draw. They can win 5-6 of their home games at the Gabba. Balladeen seems to be a good pick up. Gutted freo didn't get him. Brisbane need another year of recruiting more queensland talent

These kids they have coming through now seem talented.

I dont think they will get pick 30 or so from now on.
Besides which they seem to be investigating more on the side of non mummies boys than just out and out talent.

They will be up and about fairly quickly.

I wouldn’t be too disappointed with Schache. I don’t think he has the grunt to cut it.

Doesn't change the fact that in two years, we yet again lost another top 10 pick, and turned him into scraps. Pick 2 became a pick in the 40s and a pick upgrade. In two years. Whether Schache makes it or not, we used and gave away yet another early pick.

Freo were never getting Ballenden, he was academy.

Brisbane need a year where we actually have QLD talent early in the mix. It's helpful for us to have a contingent of 2nd and 3rd rounders from around here, which is what we're getting, but really, they were never the ones leaving. Your 2nd and 3rd rounders have just been happy to be on a list. The problem was early picks, who knew they were destined for a long-term AFL career, and were told they were going to be a star, who rocked up here knowing that they had to put in their 2 years before they could lodge a transfer request. If we can get some early picks from Brisbane, then we may actually be able to retain them.

We can win 7 or 8 games this year if things go our way. 5 or 6 more likely, but possible. Doesn't change the fact that our current list simply doesn't have the talent to challenge for a flag, even when they are mature. Beams 28 and Zorko 29 at season start, give them 3 years, and they'll be looking at retirement. Then it's back to the basement for another decade.
