You have formed an "alignment" with VFL club Williamstown - treat it as that. This is a footy club with 140 years of history so please respect that.

According to recent press Willy will be wearing a bloody magpie motiff on their blue and gold jumpers this year and wearing the actual Collingwood jumpers on 2 occassions. If thats true thats a disgrace - keep your hands off.

I dont wont Willy to be a Collingwood organisation and Willy in name only. Willy not in Blue & Gold is inconceivable. Do we have to forgo every tad of history in this dollar driven game ?

Bugger off Collingwood

sh!t!!!

oh please!!!...collingwood will make your frikin club better!!!...u'll get more people at the games supporting williamstown(most of them pies supporters),more people will buy your memberships because they are buying collingwood memberships!!!

so stop your damn sulking!!!

Like it and lump it pal.

Anyway you should be thanking the Pies, an allignment like this is a win-win situation for Willy.

Just think how they would have went if they chose to stand alone? Coburg did that last year and they finshed second last, just ahead of Bendigo who finished last(another stand alone VFL club coincidentally).

Also you have to look at the financial benefits with such an alliance, i'll bet that attendances will at least triple to Williamstown games, thanks to the black and white faithful who'll now go and watch them.

So apologise and say thank-you, Woofy.

I can appreciate where you're coming from, Woofer. I really can't make any sense at all of this arrangement. Surely, if Collingwood had to merge with a VFL club it would have made more sense to merge with a more local club, like Preston (or the Northern Bullants or whatever they're called these days).

I certainly won't be trekking out west to watch this mongrelised club. I see it as a lose-lose situation for all. I can understand long-standing Williamstown supporters being pissed off, just as I'm pissed off at no longer being able to watch a Collingwood side playing at Victoria Park. It's really killed my interest in the VFL.

Say thanks for what exactly Magpie Fletch?

Losing our tradition? Being swallowed up by a larger club with which it has NOTHING in common with? Not having a say in what jumper a club with a rich and proud history, wears? Or do we say thanks for the generations of loyal supporters feeling alienated when attending games alongside "the black and white army"?

Thanks Collingwood.

I agree that financially the "club" will be far better off (not as if we were struggling IMO), but Williamstown have lost alot in this "alliance", and you're replies haven't done alot to relieve fears that we've become the "collingwood ressies", as opposed to Williamstown. I can see it from your perspective, you had to do what was best for Collingwood, but at least see it from our angle.

I think the only way you could even begin to comprehend how Willi supporters are feeling, would be if a Manchester United wanted in on the AFL, decided to form an "alliance" (buy?) with Collingwood, and decided you're jumper was "not in line with our marketing strategy", and decided to totally change it.

If, as I believe, you are a true and passionate Collingwood supporter, would you like to lose the Magpie emblem,.... and the black and white? Wouldn't really feel like Collingwood would it? Would you "Like it and lump it pal"?

It may be time for whichever VFA/VFL clubs remain standalone to do a runner from that association, join one of the suburban leagues, before the AFL overly taints their individuality.

A couple of the local Melb leagues vie with the VFL for attendance figures. Can't remember the source, so cannot guarantee this is right, but Eastern FL were enjoying higher attendances, and DVFL were only a short way behind those of the VFL.

I realise that it will probably only be a matter of years before these leagues, too, are usurped by the AFL reich, but its surely a safer place to compete than the current VFL.

If you remain there, you'll be bred out, make now mistake.

Hey GOOFER

I dont think it was a case of collingwood storming into the offices of the DIILLIAMSTOWN FOOTBALL CLUB actually i believe the arrangement was an amicable one.
so DICK put aside your collingwood hatred for one minute and support your DILLIAMSTOWN FOOTBALL CLUB and just get on with it.

There is nothing in life greater, than to be a supporter or our beloved collingwood football club,we must remain united,we must stand tall,we must be prepared to fight for our glorious black and white, for we are THE ENVY OF ALL NATIONS.

What all five of them?

Westy Boy ; What a stupid hypothetical, absolutely ridiculous.

Collingwood should have done what Melbourne did with Sandringham. They kept their jumper and emblem all we did was provide them with our players. I think it was half Sandy players and half Melbourne. It worked well because they won the VFL flag.

Maybe it was Magpie Fletch. It had to be that far-fetched because in reality, your club will never be "taken over". In aussie rules football, you are powerful... other footy teams aren't going to buy you out. The only reason I used it was for you to put yourself in the shoes of what VFL supporters are going through.

Now ignore how crappy the actual hypothetical was...... and answer what it points to...... (and I wouldn't mind if you replied with your thought's on this too Joffa).... . If your club was to be taken over, (we both know it aint gonna happen),... would you be happy to wear someone elses jumper, play under someone elses emblem with whom you have nothing in common with.... would to happy to see Collingwood losing its tradition and identity?

I can't even bring myself to contemplate such a happening Westy. I would be homeless and could never follow a Club that mine had disappeared into. I would be another Mobbenfuhrer, in perpetual mourning for my only ever team.

I have never understood how some 'roy fans ever made the switch to Brisbane and I never will understand. I was at their last game at Victoria Park and the fact that our oldest traditional rival was no longer was almost too much for me, I can't begin to imagine what it was like for Fitzroy fans. Football and Collingwood is coded into my dna, much as my need to breath oxygen is.

Sorry the hypothetical is too much for me.

Woofer, for what it's worth, I feel for you.

Hey I totally feel for all of you guys. No matter if its Collingwood-Williamstown, Melbourne-Sandringham or whatever. Sure it has probably given the VFL a new lease of life and brought new supporters to their matches but at what cost. I dont get to see any curtain raiser games (reserves or otherwise) at the AFL footy anymore. I am certainly not going to trundle down to Willy to watch a game seeing I live on the other side of the world. I cant see why we allied with Willy who have no links to Collingwood at all. It is very sad for these supporters who have the same passion for Willy that I have for Collingwood. I would be ropable in their situation. I dont see why we have to plaster our B & W emblem on their blue & gold guernsey just to please some traditionalists. The club chose not to have a reserves side so they should really show a little respect for the club they have allied with. I would also hate to be a player missing out on a senior game having to go to another club get to know the players, don another guernsey and try to play well. Beats me how they do that. Anyway I have the utmost sympathy for you and I will certainly not be suggesting 'like it or lump it pal'.

I'm sticking with my hard line stance, a magpie emblem on the front of the guernsey is the least Williamstown could do, especially when you consider the injection of players they're getting from us. Plus they are taking us away from Vic Park.

Thanks Magpies Fletch & Joffa for your compassionate condolences. My post wasn't born out of Collingwood hatred at all. Collingwood are just one of the other 15 AFL clubs I don't support.
My post was born out of what will probably be the beginning of the end for the Towners and an alliance that just doesn't fit.

Then again whats a 140 years worth ? Want some perspective ? Thats 28 years older than your Pies. Get my point ? Show some respect.

Thanks Alf and the other sensible Pies fans.
