He was a head coach at Yarraville, North (under 19's) and Essendon (reserves). He wasn't an assistant coach. Big difference.
Right - coached Yarraville = proven AFL coach.

Who coaches Yarraville now? Maybe essendon or carlton should give them a call.

Hardwick may be a stretch...but I get your point. ;)

Lots of assistants too - Leigh Tudor, Capuano two that come off the top of my head...
Maybe it is a stretch but U/19's still counts .:p

Throw in Blakey , Ross Smith , Laidley , Teague & Rawlings too while we are at it

3 clubs looking for a new coach now. Not a good position for the club to be in. Lets hope the club forces him into the last year of his contract. Only a premiership will get an extension.

Comparisons are futile! They work both ways! Laids had no resources but some premiership stars! Scott has all the resources but no high draft picks or un compromised draws! We need to let this play out! 12 or something like it, of our prelim side go in for surgery, coupled with a tougher draw for finishing top 4, we are doing ok and would always make our run once the aforementioned 12 get that necessary match fitness! If we sneak into the top 4 or even finish 5th taking these factors into account I think we are really clutching at straws so we blame the coach, hoping for a pagan style period of dominance! Clarko and bomber were a flogging or 2 away from never coaching again before they became or will become footy folklore. We have 3 weeks to go and I'm happy to be called out if I'm wrong but I have a good feeling about what's to come not only this year but in the next few!

Aside from Wells (2), Hansen (3), Cunnington (5), McDonald (8), Ziebell (9) and an assortment of other first rounders (McKenzie, Atley, Garner, Higgins, Jacobs and Dal Santo).

You count wells even if he doesn't play?

Did you want Scott sacked at the end of last year? Do you think wells would make a difference this year?

I'm not sure how either question is relevant to the point falsely made that Scott hasn't had high draft picks to work with.

Regardless, I think the fact we are still bemoaning Wells' absence is a pretty sad indicator that we haven't been able to develop players, and this "if only we had a fit Wells" argument serves as a means to distract from this. A fit Wells would be fantastic, but he isn't going to suddenly make our midfield quicker, or suddenly make us defend the spread better, or suddenly make us able to cope with an opposition forward press without resorting to panic handball.

Because he had wells to work with last year and we made a prelim.

Actually, wells would absolutely help all those things.

I also think you can mark us down for two more wins if we had Wells and Dal Santo playing together (rather than missing a big chunk this year). Losing your two key midfielders hurts any team.

I didn't respond to a post that said "Scott had Wells in 2014 but not 2015" though, I responded to one that said "Scott hasn't had high draft picks". Which he has had throughout his time at North, as most coaches do.

He'd assist in a lot of areas, but he is one player who has a history of injury. A great player of course, but also one whose legend and influence is growing with every game he misses. Good sides cover good players, especially when they have a whole season to work out how to play without them and other players have a whole season to step up.

Wells has played a handful of games in two years. That he is still apparently our most important midfielder is an indictment on players and coaches alike.

I could mark us down for two more wins if we were coached to be able to stem the flow when the opposition gets a run on (Collingwood and Port) too.

Pagan walked into the club after ten consecutive grand finals (six flags) as head coach within the VFL/AFL system. Brad Scott had a PowerPoint presentation... harsh but Pagan's record pre-appointment was a lot better than Scott's pre-appointment.

Fact is to date he has mirrored Laidley's tenure - and no closer to a flag.

There is no Wells legend growing. He is a great player with unique skills that compliments our midfield and we miss him. Losing him and Dal Santo for an extended stretch does not help, any team would struggle a bit with players of the calibre of Dal Santo, Wells and Swallow all missing at once. I am not saying we are having a great year, but with those three in for the pies game I am sure we would have won and would therefore be equal top four on points and 1 win behind hawthorn right now. Good teams do deal with injuries, however good teams also get derailed by injuries, particularly when concentrated in the midfield.

There next 3 weeks we will find out a lot but our midfield depth absolutely got hit hard in the middle of the season and it showed.

Another tick for our coach, helping to manage all-time club greats Harvey and Petrie (particularly Harvey) to all time record feats. It says a whole lot for the way he prepares this team that longevity is now the norm.

Particularly? Only Harvey.

And to suggest he wouldn't have gotten there under another coach is laughable.

Which is why i use them as a comparison - bad losses happen even to great teams, the win tally at the end of the season is what will count.

I hear you, but routine bad losses in Round 1 and at periodic points throughout the season has happened far too often.

The next month is huge for Brad Scott and possibly this team's future.

I agree. If there is a lack of effort or organisation that leads to bad losses, questions should be asked.

Conversely, if we carry in the momentum of the last couple of months, absorb pressure/challenges and win, we should stop wringing our hands over round 1 and Collingwood for a bit.

The hand-wringing happens because the same sorts of losses seem to happen every year.
