While I have serious question marks over the game plan I'd be inclined to keep Noble. It's the list management I'm more concerned about.

I just watched Nobles press conference and you would hope that is not the message he is giving behind closed doors.

I get that he is trying to find some positivity, but if you are giving that same type of message, then how do you expect them to drive to get better when he is telling them it’s ok we are improving?

As Dennis would say don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining.

That was bizarre to say that it wasn’t all bad as he thought combined we won the second and third quarters. Totally ignored the disgusting first quarter and glossed over that the game was effectively finished.

You would think we won with how happy he was in the press conference.

Watch some of the duds get recontracted, North go for midfielders in the draft again, refuse to truly chase and good free agents that would make us better and never sign any mature aged state league guns.

Don't overlook the situation that's evolved with Cunnington (arguably our best player), and then losing the likes of Tarryn Thomas, Jaidyn, Will Phillips, Tom Powell, LDU, Jed, McKay and others to injury/illness this season.

We were already a 'bottom' squad, and there hasn't been a single game yet this season where we've had our 'best 22' fit and healthy at the same time.

The whole "we have legit gone backwards" stuff seriously overlooks the player availability issue.

Losing Tom Powell? He has played him out of position all season. He should be starting every ****ing game in the middle. Not only is he more than good enough already we are just ****ing around with his development by not playing him there.

The structure of our side up forward and defensively in transition is horrid and that is 100 percent on the coaching staff.

Your comment about the best 22 is nonsense as well. All sides have injuries/players missing. If the losses were honorable and we didn’t set up and play like shit then one could take solace with the injuries but we have been nothing short of horrible. No excuses. (And how many sides have their best 22 to pick from any week)

Jaiydn? He has played most games and been shit.
Phillips? is an unproven second year player who is at best arguably best 22.
LDU missed one game.

You are just throwing players in there to mount an argument to defend Noble. Anyone who watches can see we are a horribly structured side and anyone who listens to Nobles press conferences can hear for themselves that he doesn’t really have a tactical feel for the game. Might be a great bloke but as a coach has been a failure thus far and not showing signs of improving.

When/if Noble moves on I do motion that Archer is nowhere near the panel again.

The whole “great response” theme of last week went out the window at quarter time. If I was the club president (thank God I’m not) the entire coaching group would be in my office on Monday morning and I’d announce Blakey as a caretaker by Monday night.

This is just complete shambles

The worst thing? It’s like nobody at the club cares enough.

These performances would’ve meant hell to pay in Pagan’s time. Instead of smiles and back pats over literally one quarter where we actually weren’t deplorable (and beating a WAFL side by 2 goals), there’d be slammed doors, home truths, reinforcement of the non-negotiables/North way.. and everyone on notice.

That’s not how we do things anymore? Great. I bet this current playing group will love coming back for a reunion in 20 years time, to stand in front of an empty trophy cabinet and reminisce about how warm and fuzzy the coaches made them feel.

And that legendary quarter when everyone tried for 20 minutes. Maybe they could release a DVD? “North Melbourne: The Response”.

Seriously though, this club still accepts mediocrity as the norm and applauds sporadic displays of basic effort as though it’s actual success. Has done for years. I wish it would change but it feels like we’re just occupying space, treading water. Irrelevant.

Although I support the current coaching group and back them in, I fear that with such low aims and expectations, this club risks standing for nothing and going nowhere.

Really, really glad to be proven wrong. Nothing would make me happier.

The team needs more Alpha male personality types. And I don't like having to use the term but right now most teams have nice beta guys that are just happy to show up and make good money and if they lose 'oh well we'll get em another day' attitude. I don't get the sense that winning is as important to some of them as it was to players past.

You look at our recent Essendon games. There is no rivalry anymore because the players don't play like they care for one. I want them to take every loss personally like Carey and co did. Like the Lions and Cats. Like the 13-15 Hawks did. They were vicious. Hell even Laidley's era still had some gruff. We need some more mongrel. I think Horne will bring that, Zurharr too but it will need to be matched by team mates and ingrained mentally into everybody. I'm still not sure Noble has the personality type to instill that

I am assuming it is because he has the support of the Board to rebuild so he takes a developmental view. Accordingly he is realistic about where we are at and is able to identify areas where we have improved or at least improving.

For years many posters on this board have bemoaned that we do not develop our players & I think long term this will be seen as Noble’s strength.

Didnt have an interrupted pre-season? Id assume given how he played last year they dont believe he's match fit to start in the middle yet.

Yeah he definitely has the aura about him. He wants to win at all costs.

I honestly think the the mentality I'm referring to dwindled during Brad's era. The only guys left that cared about the Essendon rivalry were the guys that were shipped out in 2016 cause those guys played with some of the 90's guys and understood what it meant. Unfortunately it never really carried over to anyone else.

A small number of experienced players but a group of inexperienced whose form fluctuated from a 1990 smashing of the Tigers to being beaten by the Brisbane Bears in their first ever game to beating the Eagles on a Friday night at the G.

That was our last closest era to a rebuild (89-92) and should be the comparison and not 93 to 99.
