He obviously hasn't been setting the world on fire this season but i'll reserve my judgement until we can get Tabs, Cox and Cam in the same forward line. That way he will be getting the third tall and i think that is when we will get the best value out of him. I think everyone knew when we first got him that he was not the key forward that we had been crying out for but more the second/third option that will be a piece of our forward line.

Once he stops thinking about his roll and starts thinking about his role I can see him getting back on track.

Can't think of too many 3rd defenders I would back him in to beat 1vs1
since he can't even outmark a small defender when he gets a mismatch , if he can't find a way to get hold of the pill more he will be out of the comp if not next year the one after

From memory, round 6 he was handy and worked hard against WC and the impenetrable wall of McGovern.

The week before he had 2.3, 16 disposals, took 10 marks (and even laid a tackle!) against the dogs

Against the Suns he had 3 goals, 17 disposals and took 7 marks

Round 1 against Port he tried his guts out while we were getting flogged.


Nothing amazing, but not the stats of somebody who 'should retire or be delisted'.
Granted these weren't against great teams, but his start of the year was pretty solid.

He has ability in spades. His conditioning looks bad to us numpties but if he was slacking off, smashing burgers and punching darts throughout the week do we seriously believe Ross the Boss would be giving him charity games?

In summary, it's never as good or bad as it looks. Patience, all.

Happened to watch that gold coast game again the other day Cam was really really good and spent a fair bit off time lined up on May.Would have to be mitch crowden's best game too. Jack Martin was even better - wouldn't mind seeing him in purple at some stage.

Chris Mayne was no star but you always saw him in the shot having a crack. There seems to be entire quarters where I forget McCarthy is playing because he's unsighted.

He gives great effort when manning the mark. He gets the left-right arm swing combo working a treat.

He is hard to support as a player because his heart is their but something lacks

Basically what a lot of people were saying about him this year - he works well as a 3rd tall, not as the solo tall. He'll make a good team with Tabs
