I hope he can make it back -for sentimental reasons (although that may not be enough to get him a game)
I have enjoyed watching him over the years. Always puts it on the line
In between dummy spits and Silvagni bumps he has produced some fantastic, skillful and commited footy for this club- Loved the way he put Tredrea back in his box in 2007 GF
I know we have a few guys in the twilight of their careers but I think I will miss him the most of the "soon to retirees":thumbsu:

Re: Milburn ? can he make it back

He's certainly worthy. He was his typical reliable and stingy (and complaining) self against the Pies.

If Corey can't convince everybody he's capable of performing his four-quarter-warrior routine, the match committee may go with Milburn.

The other possibility which has been mentioned is that Lonergan may not be required against Carlton (if that match-up eventuates), given Kreuzer is out and Henderson is playing defence.

They will keep Lonergan because he needs to get match fit for Collingwood if we make it.

Love Milburn. But I can't see him as a replacement for Corey.

All the fit veterans not selected so far need to be professional: get their bodies right, be prepared if needed, and support the team.

Re: Milburn ? can he make it back

Unlikely to get back unless Corey isn't fit IMO.

Nothing against Dasher, he's played well this year when he's been fit and he'll be a worthy emergency if anyone gets an injury but you'd be pretty hard pressed to drop anyone from last week.

Great servant of the club and I'm sure he'll prepare himself in the best possible manner so he's ready to go if an opportunity arises.

Re: Milburn ? can he make it back

Still one of the best in the competition at reading the play. Deserves a go but so does Joel Corey and so do the other 22 boys who played last week. Menzel obviously is gone, Corey will probably come in and Dasher will only be in the side if another injury comes up I'm afraid.

Could see him being the sub, if they believe he will play that role better than Duncan. There is a case for both.

It does seem Scott favours the younger man though.

He's easily the best chance of the healthy players outside the best 22 at the moment, because if any of the current defenders went out, he'd be the first choice as the replacement. Unfortunately for Dasher, Josh Hunt pretty much cemented his spot in the backline for the rest of the finals series.

It is interesting that he has been treated this way. Please don't take this as a troll, as I am genuine, however Laidler was traded because Milburn decided not to retire. As much as I hate him, I can see alot of Milburn in Laidler. Laidler has become basically my favourite player for the way he reads the play and 100% commitment.

I find it weird that Geelong chose to sacrifice Laidler in the order to grant Milburn's wishes of playing another year, but drop him even though he is not bad every time I've seen him play.

It is also respect to Geelong for:
1. respecting a senior player's wishes to play on and not do an Essendon
2. respecting a player's wishes in a trade
3. trading fairly and reasonably

Such a top quality team that I will never get sick off succeeding (expect when it's against us of course)

Well first of all it was Bomber's decision to offer Dasher a new contract - a few days before he walked out on the club. So it's not interesting at all that Scott is treating him differently. And we certainly never sacrificed Laidler either - we wanted him to stay but he wanted to leave, that's all there is to it. Even if Milburn had retired there's no guarantees Laidler would have stayed, he was at that point still behind Taylor Hunt anyway.

It depends on the opposition I think. He will be in the mix though. Against carlton I wouldn't think so they will be too quick. Against WCE he stands a chance as they do have several talls as well.

CS was just interviewed "On the Couch" and said telling Dasher he wasn't playing Friday night was the toughest thing he has had to do this year.

He also said that Dasher was very much part of their plans for the remaining finals.

Interesting :D

He said that about Mooney too.

It's actually an interesting one with Laidler. I could see why he left after Milburn signed on for another year as he probably thought he could get more game time elsewhere, which he has at Carlton. But given Scott's willingness to play "the kids" this season, if Laidler stayed on at the Cattery and put in the hard yards over summer, there's every chance he could've played senior football this year at someone else's expense.

I guess we'll never know though.

Re: Milburn ? can he make it back

I hope so, not happy with how he has been treated this season. When he does play, he has been great.

What do you mean? Who has messed him around?

I'd love to see him in our 22 still but I'm not sure who makes way for him anymore. He's more than capable I think the problem is that it would be more unfair and hard to justify dropping one of the back six.

Corey comes in for Menzel and if any of our backmen are injured Dash is a walk up start. In fact he's every chance of playing against Carlton if they win and Lonergan making way.

Re: Milburn ? can he make it back

I think when he has come in, he has played great, and then been dropped or rested. Just my personal view.

true but with Varcoe playing a rejuvenated role down in the backline and Wojak also playing some of his best footy of his career, it's difficult to see who would miss. I mean even Mackie is back to his best and so too Josh Hunt in recent weeks. Lonergan could be the likely option but he's such a deceptive player who is one of the quicker players in the league at 6ft 5 and 100kg.. can match it with the power forwards whereas Milburn prefers to play as Harley/Enright type. If we play West Coast then I think he will play at the expense of possibly Hunt as LeCras or Darling could present problems for him.

About Lonergan, You don't relace your key-post defender with a flanker in a final series, you just don't.

I thought he was great and a most miportant part of our win last week.
The way he refused to let Buddy off the leash after the pressure start he had to ride through was just typical of his pure determination to get back on top.
In the end the pressure was back on Buddy!
Congrats Tom for a great game.

Varcoe had 7 possessions against the Hawks, if his role is in defence then I'd say he's the one Dasher might replace, and why not, Dash is capable of 20+ possession games.
And I couldn't see Varcoe manning up on Darling or LeCras.
