This thread is kind of an insult to Hird in the end. He was a brilliant player but Carey as a player is up there with Leigh Matthews and Gary Ablett Snr as one of the greatest players to ever play the game. A very unfair comparison.

With Hird Essendon won two flags, With Carey North won two flags. The only difference Hird didn't rip the heart out of Essendon when he left. Carey may have been the better player but he got the same results as Hird.

So in hindsight if someone was to say have Carey and recieve two flags or have Hird and recieve two flags then my choice would be Hird by the Flemington straight.

Yes if you want to be pedantic and bring up 400 irrelevant angles, except Carey was the better footballer by miles. Why people are even bringing up the personal aspect is stupid, but not surprising given it's Essendon supporters that are doing it. What that has to do with football ability I don't know.
