Loved Peterson, never realised there was an issue and had huge hopes for him. He has huge talent, and would have fitted in real nicely as someone who can take a grab as the third tall in a forward line, and also had a real leg of speed. Was a real disappointed for mine that we lost him.

Given that, knowing nothing about the issue that he was delisted for, I would be more than happy for us to sign him up again. But again, that is being clueless to why he was let go and didn't play for us this season.

Did he nominate for the draft the year he was delisted? If yes, why wasn't he picked up given his form with us showing huge signs, and if not why?

I feel sad for Carl, played some wonderful football for us albeit in bursts but that speed and leap really took some of the pressure off Buddy and our forward line looked very dangerous.

I can see clubs shy away from Carl with his history perhaps because of the shallow draft he might get his chance but I doubt it. Perhaps a rookie spot at best.

If we don't go for him then I would love to see him get picked up by another club. He didn't burn us at all, he just hit a brick wall in his career and life in general, but he seems like he is back on track again. These things can happen in life, and I think that he deserves another chance.

Agree. Here's the article that explains it all. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-new...520-1ewzi.html

The club has worked closely with him since he left AFL. If he has found peace and direction in his life, then I would love him back.

I saw Carl take an absurd soaring mark in the wet at Box Hill last year that only the prodigously talented could take. Absolute gobsmacking mark.

The saddest thing is that he should be starting his 5th preseason now and not looking for a third restart to his career. Seriously could have been anything.

I saw that mark anyone who was there couldn't miss it. It really showed what carl could do. Like you say sad really

He was slotting through the middle as well, and had real freak talent across the park. That goal against the pies in his last, and possibly best, game was awesome.

If he wants to play, get him.

Sorry guys I don't mean to intrude but I read in an earlier post that 3 clubs had made contact with Carl Peterson, one of them being North Melbourne. Was this mentioned on SEN or was it in one of the papers?
Cheers.
Carl and his manager stated it during an interview .

Was/am a fan of Carl's. While I was disappointed about how it worked out, I think it's admirable that he's gone away and made (evidently) some positive changes to his outlook and life in general. Wherever he plays in future, I wish him well and hope he goes part of the way to realising the tremendous footballing talent that he possesses.

I agree. The fact is he managed to get his fitness up to leage level in 2010 and played 17 games in his first year at senior level.
He arrived in Richmond with osteopubis and only ever played seconds for Coburg the same the in 2009 with Boxhill.
As a rookie we have nothinh to lose especially if you consider the number of players who get drafted and never play a senior game.

Going to be talking to the boys on SEN this afternoon about wanting to kick start his AFL career again.

Thoughts on picking him up?

If I miss the interview maybe someone else can post what he says.
Whatever mistakes he made or anyone around him made , Hawks would do well to get him back on our list .
He is a special talent, and we look to the future not the past. I,d be hunting him down relentlesly . I was surprised when he was gone , I don,t know the story though.

There are a number of unsigned players floating around at the moment and they're all in the same boat in that they tend to be, for whatever reason, very disruptive to football clubs. Carl, unfortunately, is one of those players, despite whatever freakish talent he might possess. Too many recent examples of wayward players derailing a clubs season for any coach to want to have to carry the risk of having to endure the media storm when the shit hits the fan is not working in any of these players favour.

I think people really need to focus on facts re players in football clubs.
Have a lok at Andrew Krakouer a great example of some one who turned their life around. You probably could have compared him to the likes of Fev two years ago from the stories you heard and read. And you probably would have said "yes an wayward player who will derail a clubs season and attract unwanted media attention".
Well he certainly put a few of his critics in their place.

Wasn't the Peterson's issue just mainly turning up to training and club events. I remember a story about how he skipped a meeting and was then to embarrassed to own up and face the club so just avioded calls and didn't show up to training for a week, Eventually someone had to go to his house to see what was going on. If he can commit to putting in the hard yards at training I would he no problem with him being rookied, he is an elite talent.

HAHAHA love it when people put up these stories. Know Carl and his family well from time in Darwin and spent a bit of time with him last year after being delisted. I remember him telling me how he missed a training because he lost his phone and turned up at the wrongtime. You were right that he was embarassed as Clarko had put alot of faith in him and didnt turn up. But the club had it sorted by the next day. As if Hawthorn would just let their players drop off the raydar for a whole week.

They story I speak of came from this article, But it seems to support my question as to all Carl was really lacking was the professionalism to be a full time footballer and struggled to settle into the lifestyle. His problems were not like fev, krakour and lovett who broke the law, were violent and disruptive to their clubs.

Your right in most of what you say bro. It's just your first article is quite a bit different as to what's written in the age article. No mention of skipping a meeting, disappearing for a week or people having to go and find him.
I'm a big fan of hawthorn and Carl would love to see him back in the jumper.

I think it was a case of me incorrectly recalling an article I read 7 months ago along with things I'd read or heard from other sources. But fair call poor journalism on my part.
My main point is I just don't see where the risk lies with Carl. All you risk is him once again failing to cope and not having a huge on field impact, I believe he is a better chance to play good AFL football for us than most of the other players in the rookie draft who have been over looked and are unknown at this level. And would probably be more value on field to the club then Fev or Lovett even if they adopted Sam Mitchell like work ethic and behaviour.

I have a mate in the recruitment 'network', and he claims he'd be surprised if clubs were looking at Peterson because of his past record. Sounds like there's far more to it than just missing a meeting. I doubt Hawthorn would sack a required player simply based on that.

Elite football requires structure, rigid discipline and efficient time management - and the simple truth of it is that Peterson lacked in all these areas during his time at Hawthorn, despite the efforts of a support network led by player welfare officer Jason Burt, development coach David Flood and coach Alastair Clarkson.
It wasn't that he wantonly set out to break team rules; it was more that, when he did miss a training session [or arrive at the wrong venue], he would feel so guilty that he would simply go missing - sometimes for days at a time.

''It's hard to explain,'' he says now. ''But I'd feel bad that I'd let people down and you go into your shell.''

Sounds to me from snippet of article (above) that Carl was a serial offender when it came to training attendance.

I still think it's worth giving him another go. He seems to know where he went wrong. Little risk if we rookied him with possibly great rewards.
