I am pretty sure both of them are out of contract so we wont have to trade for them at all. We can get them in the pre season draft for free. Assuming they get through to us but that usually happens when a player wants to go to a certain club.

We want Dangerfield. You've had enough success already. :p
check the time now check the date now!
Gazza is staying at the cattery ,file this away until the end of the year ,remember who told you so, no further correspondence entered into.
cheers

That's not how the psd works at all, you can only name a contract price not a club. Do you really think all 17 AFL clubs would overlook boak and dangerfield

The only reason guys like hall get picked up by their suitor clubs is because there is no interest from any other clubs.

Considering the amount of picks the gc has your first draft pick this year is what would normally be a mid to late 2nd round pick and will have little to no value. You would have to give up something of significant value to even get in the ballpark of a satisfactory trade.

Just for the record, i hope Ablett doesn't leave..
I think it would be a travisty..

He should be remembered as a double or triple brownlow medalist and 3/4/5 time premiership player for Geelong and not the captain of Gold Coast.

But in saying that,

There is no way you can wait till the end of the year to start offering contracts to Boak or Dangerfield, because there will be 3 or 4 other clubs already starting contract talks with their management now.

You will be behind the 8Ball and will struggle to land either of them.

If you are talking to their managers now, you would think behind the scenes they would have a fairly strong indication that Ablett is leaving.

It places your club in an awkward position not knowing what Ablett's choice will be, if he leaves it till the week after the Grand Final to let you know that he is leaving, it will be pretty late to start trying field offers with the left over cash you will have when most clubs will have already started talking with uncontracted players.

But like i said, hopefully he stays and players like Mitch Duncan and Simon Hogan get more game time and you won't have to worry too much about uncontracted players from other clubs.

Best of luck Boys..

IF there was to be a trade, what would be fair. We need mids. I suggested Danger + our 1st rounder (if it was pick 15ish, not pick 10) but i reckon you lot wouldn't be happy with that, as Selwood is a proven gun. What wqould you guys be willing to offer hypothetically?

it would be hard to get a deal done - if we win the flag our first pick is 25.

the best offer the cats could put together would be something like pick 25 and a player. and the only player that comes to mind is one who has been in a bit of trouble this year and was originally recruited from a south australian club

Why do you Port and Adelaide supporters think that you will be in a position to demand so much in return? If they are out of contract you will be on the back foot and may very well lose them for nothing.

SJ...I just posted a similar repsonse on the AFC board. I cant speak for Boak, but everything Dangerfield has said and done since we picked him up is all class.

Maybe he could ditch us to go home...but to do so with no compensation seems completely at odds with his persona.

I think its probably worth adding that a lot of homework was done on this lad before he was drafted and our chief recruiter has repeatedly stated he will be a 10 year player for us. When he was drafted we overlooked a certain stay at home SA player in favour of Pat, as he was not only identified as a better prospect, but also as a sticker.

I would rather lose a player to the Gold Coast for free and gain a far higher compensation pick in 2012 rather than trade Dangerfield to Geelong for pick 30 odd in the 2010 draft.

You'd have to think that some of the better type players coming out of contracts at other clubs would be wetting themselves to be approached by Geelong.

The hypothetical is this:

* GAJ leaves Geelong for GC
* Geelong open up for a position, or two, in their team
* A player gains an opportunity to join what is widely considered to be the greatest AFL team of the modern era, and an opportunity to be a part of that team in its search of continued glory in the AFL.

The money may not match what the Gold Coast would offer, but as a lot of people have pointed out with the GAJ situation is that he should choose Geelong over Gold Coast due to the opportunity of success that Geelong is currently offering rather than pure cash that Gold Coast is seen to be.

So in other words, Gary may not make the "right" decision with regards to Success Versus Money, but other players may want to go for the premiership/brownlow chances (brownlow if prolific midfielders.)

Anyone here who has studied media will know how it can be used to manipulate minds of those who believe it.....

For weeks GB has had his nostrils flared and has been picking up some intriguing odurs. Now im getting a strong scent of fresh smoke. Fresh smoke being produced by the burning forrest that is the Gary Ablett Gold Coast debarcle. Visa vie a smoke screen.

Be wary not to be fooled my firends. GB has his ears on the turf of Skilled Stadium, hearing things that make the "gold coast chatter" very interesting. I'll be sure to let you know of any whispers.....
Your good friend,

gb:eek:

Did I miss a memo where David Parkin became the insider king of player movement?

l herd on the radio the other day the MMM rush hour or what ever it's called.
the new teams can go after players all ready contracted so if gazz wants to leave in steed of just leaving.he can/should sign with the cats and then the cats do a deal to get some first rounds picks for him and use one of those picks with a player to get patty to come home.

For this happen all of the following has to occur:

- Ablett has to leave
-The AFL has to change the compensation arrangement so that we get a high pick and that pick has to be tradeable so we can compensate the Adelaide club
- Boak or Dangerfield have to agree to be paid less than market rate for their talents
-The Geelong players have to agree that they should come into the squad to jam open the Premiership window for another couple of years

It is a highly likely that the sequence of events will breakdown somewhere along the line (hopefully at step one, but more likely at step two). However, it seems prudent and encouraging in some way that the club are looking at all options to keep us where we are. At the top.

That is all.

Great summary, and much more simply put than I could have, had I tried.

I'd much rather Gazza stayed, but I'm happy if the club at least makes contingency plans, does due diligence etc.

As a side point (since you raised it), I suspect the AFL will introduce a rule allowing compensation picks that any club receives to be on traded, which makes sense given that depending on where they are in their cycle, some clubs will really want picks in this draft, whereas others will prefer to take as few picks as possible.

i actually remember reading when selwood signed (and i can't remember the source) that he was promised a payrise IF ablett left and IF we failed to snare another player.

i really like the thought of going after the best available player, but it won't be easy. the two new clubs have their cheque books open and will ofter anyone thinking of leaving their club a lot more than we could, and they're in the position of not having to satisfy a trade to do so.

port are also notoriously hard to trade with, and would want a very early pick for boak.

am i right that the gold coast DOESN'T have a pick in the Pre-season draft? this could be our best chance to get the best available uncontracted player

No they have the first 10 picks in the PSD I think...AFL is keen to create a mega monster.

I reckon its all a ruse to get Danger's pay up next year

His dad and Danger himself have come out and said that Danger loves it in Adelaide and isn't going anywhere.

I would be super dissappointed if Danger was to leave us and we get nothing (as an uncontracted player) but i can't see him doing that, after the way we looked after him in his 1st year

I reckon there would be a few clubs looking at both players, as both will be very good to great players. Geelong got mentioned due to the fact they are both ex-Falcons

TBH I would offer, and this is just me. I would offer whatever 1st rounder(assuming the AFL gave us 2, which they should) + Gamble. I really like Vegas, but I feel like he'll never get a chance here, so if we could get Danger and give Vegas a chance to make it at AFL somewhere then I'd look at it.

I'm sure the crows would probably want more though. Although I would argue that if a player like Danger decided he was going to leave, you'd be better to take a decent offer rather than risk he goes into the PSD, to some club other than us, and his club gets no compensation, and everybody loses. So you would think that if the situation ever came about, that would be enough incentive for both clubs to sort out a deal.

How is Enright going this year? Enright and Mackie for Boak? Both Sth Aussie boys from memory for a Geelong boy! :)

Your either having a joke or your deluded. Boak is potentially a very good player , Enright is an All Aust & B&F winner and you want Mackie as well.
For either Boak or Dangerfield where in contract one may be able to demand more but out of contract a first round pick plus a fringe player looking for a chance would be enough. Look how good Davenport has been , a fringe player on our list is not a fringe player on everyones list.

Listening to Matt Rendell the other day on SEN, he mentioned that GWS have picks that must be traded for players, I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of this year several players are convinced to sign 1 year contracts. Maybe if the kids are after dollars , this maybe will be an approach the Adelaide might consider. People change there minds , sign for 1 year and see what happens. But if they really do would prefer to come to Geelong and or a Melbourne Club but are also happy to go to GC , a deal , any deal would be preferable than letting them walk for nothing.

In general , I think everyone will have to get used to the idea of getting far less for players once FA comes in. We can scream about the lack of compensation for Ablett (rightly IMO) but if he stayed for another two years he would be a FA come 2012 and I think its unlikely FA comp will be better than the GC offers.

There's more chance of me arousing from sleep with Adriana Lima and Miranda Kerr on either side of me in my bed.

It's a nice dream that I have, but it won't happen.

I mentioned last week in the GC chatter thread that a mate of mine had learned that GC17 had already signed Gaz and 2 other players, as he is well conneceted in the GC17 office

The othe two players that he said that had already signed with GC17 were Boak and Dangerfield.

I would be surprised if GC has only signed 3 and these were the 3. When there is so much talk about Lynch , Harbrow and Petterd. Time will tell.

I didn't think any contracts could be signed until the end of the season?

That was my understanding of it all.

as sad as an ablett leaving if we could get a boak or dangerfield (or both) than that will increase our chances of staying a force for years to come.
