It was one of those games where the score line didn't tell the full story, their deficiencies nullified our strengths. They needed everything to go right we only needed a few things, once it became a fight deep we didn't fall over like to their opponents used to gift them.

Wow, zuthrie was so good early when we were struggling. Without Zuthrie and Jezza we would have been out of the game by qtr time.

blicavs only reinforces his finals reputation unfortunately.

stanley, touhy, miers and hawkins had poor games.

atkins terrible first 3 qtrs. Excellent the last.

cant go in with the same approach in the prelim. Need to attack from the start rather then as a reaction.

Have said it for week without much support from other geelong Conrad’s, but I respect collingwood enormously and was most worried about playing them and I was quite rightfully justified. Their style is incredible and would trouble us the most.

To be able to push through and grind such an intense high pressure game when everything that could go wrong went wrong and the entire game on collingwoods terms, to be able to grind it out for a win was the sign of an unbelievably good team.

I respected what they'd done but thought we'd ultimately be too good. Didn't go the way I thought, congrats to us for winning when it mattered but feel lucky and relieved.

And sometimes that's finals footy - while this time of year is about the best teams, it's not always the best display of the game

Tonight wasn't necessarily a match we'd want to watch on replay, but I actually really like how we dug in & stayed in the contest even when we weren't at our best

In past finals campaigns, when the heat has been turned up we've been found wanting, and while it wasn't the perfect response tonight, we did respond & found a way to stay in the game even when it wasn't on our terms

Sometimes a win like tonight says more about the character of the team, than one when you win by 10+ goals

Agreed. Always seem to be like that. They know what we have been through over the decades.

Said it during the season, the hard running from Rohan/Close/Stengle/Holmes leads to joe the goose goals, and the media for a while would shit on players for them. But when goals were hard to come by, we got 2 at crucial moments.

Easy goals in finals when they are so hard to come by are huge, were the Close/Holmes ones the only ones or was there another I missed?

Went exactly how I thought it would. Collingwood won 12/13 last games for a reason. They are a bloody good team and have an unsettling style that brings the game into their Favor. They are rightfully equal with Sydney as the second best side in the AFL, in my opinion slightly better than Sydney but won’t beat them up in Sydney in a fortnight.

I see us making the grand final now and knocking Melbourne off

You’d have to go with cegs after that. Stanley killed our run so many times I stopped counting. Dropped so many easy marks and they just sling shoot straight from them. So disappointing because I was hoping he’d carry his form into tonight
