I also thought danger was poor. Not his effort. His attack on the ball and power is amazing. But not sure he actually gets us in better positions.

Moot point as he has to play “just in case his best comes back”. But if that is keeping parfait out that is where I start to question whether we might regret it

I don't think having Parfitt V Danger has a big impact on our overall team efficiency. They are both good in the contests, Danger gains more ground through both run and carry, Parfitt is more accountable. If I had to chose id probably lean towards Parfitt as well tbh, but I think our best team has both in it.

Next game Kolo out for Parfitt, MOC as Sub again imo.

And sometimes that's finals footy - while this time of year is about the best teams, it's not always the best display of the game

Tonight wasn't necessarily a match we'd want to watch on replay, but I actually really like how we dug in & stayed in the contest even when we weren't at our best

In past finals campaigns, when the heat has been turned up we've been found wanting, and while it wasn't the perfect response tonight, we did respond & found a way to stay in the game even when it wasn't on our terms

Sometimes a win like tonight says more about the character of the team, than one when you win by 10+ goals

All true......

Just a bit disconcerting that we turn in such poor footy with alarming regularity in finals. Glad we got away with it this time.

As you pointed out, our usual cohesion was nowhere to be seen, and I hope that's addressed after another week off.

I actually thought we would go through this final series undefeated.
May still be true but today scared the shit out of me thinking we can can go back to that style of play.
Hope its just a glitch in the system because thats not winning a grand final.

NGL, 6 points down against the Pies with 2 minutes to go was pretty much the worst possible scenario V the Pies.

I also think we are lucky that scores ended up tied when they kicked their final goal instead of a behind and us up by 5. Can totally imagine the Pies picking off the kick-in for a 7 point play then locking it up for the final few minutes like we ended up doing. With scores tied, we need to score, we move the ball aggressively, they can't defend, easy goal, game over.

Some credit to Collingwood and the upside it's the hit out we really needed to go all the way.

I think the talk of how badly we played is very much underselling the Pies. They're a very well structured team and their pressure was ******* immense from start to finish. The game was on their terms all night - gotta give them their due credit.
100% this. We played badly because the Pies made us play badly. Credit to us for overcoming it, but credit to the Pies for smothering us more convincingly than pretty much any other side this year

Holmes, who’s running power made him look like he was playing at a different speed to the fatiguing players around him in that pulsating final term, was cramping when the matchwinning play began to evolve.

The chain started with Tom Stewart’s deft kick finding Cam Guthrie at centre half-back.

At that time, Holmes inside Collingwood’s forward-50, with more than six Magpie defenders between him and the Geelong goal.

By the time Jeremy Cameron blasted it to Gary Rohan – who would spill a routine chest mark – Holmes was alone in the goalsquare.

I like him there tagging, but not as an offensive mid. Pies don't really have a big mid to put him on.

Yep .
Pendles would break the blitz tag .

But he's too slow brain to hand or foot.
First give Blitz.

He's a very good second ruck type .

If I could pick one fault with this Geelong outfit, it was that we didn’t play many close games like this one. We won 13 games in a row heading into tonight but only two were great games like tonight: Port and Richmond.

I felt we needed to drop a game on the run home to prepare us for a qualifying final and I was wrong.

Truly thrilled
Winning the way we did tonight was basically losing a game for 3 quarters and shambling it together in the end so I'll count it
