Review Cats hang on by 3 points to beat Pies

Only downer for the whole night was the lack of composure in the last three or so minutes. Genuinely horrible footy it was. Maybe the Pies didn’t allow them any space, fatigue no doubt played a part, but they did not even attempt to play keeping’s off late in the game. Six six six obviously contributed to the result, the league hit the jackpot with new rule a few years ago.

Hard, tough and knows where the goals are, difficult to believe he was overlooked for so long.
Mannagh has a couple of dodgy moments each match which can be frustrating, but it's hard to criticise someone trying to relentlessly push the game forward for us. Mistakes happen, as they have with Dangerfield. But he is giving us grunt and spark around the ground in bundles. Quickly becoming one of our most important players.

Chris Scott calling Garry Lyon a smart arse on TV before the game another nice moment 😀

And what about the Atkins chase (maybe Hill?) in the last quarter-didn’t get him, but gee he tried. He’s a beautie.
I loved Atkins second half.

In the first I felt like it was similar to the Blues game, lots of tackles but second to the ball so still being beaten. But he got his mojo up as it went on and was genuinely influential when we made our charge. Found a lot more of the ball in tight.

Never stops working. Gives his all week in, week out. Glad he’s getting reward for his efforts.

The umpires definitely hurried the game up in the end to give Collingwood a chance.

That ruck holding the ball was 50/50 and wouldn’t have been paid if it was 10 mins into the first quarter.

They could sense a good game and fairytale finish too.

It wasn’t like they were actively working to help one team. There were moments when both teams had it go their way.
Thought it was blatantly holding the ball to be honest, in a night full of bad decisions this wasnt one of them.

A rare blemish for Blitz. There wasn't enough congestion to play it that way, when he was kind of gripped softly he had to get hands out or throw it on the boot. Collingwood played it well though.

Maybe I'm just get old and contrarian, but

i) On reflection, that's one of the wins a team loses 9 times out of 10.

ii) Our comeback was still so brilliant when everything was going against us

iii) The Hill tackle was too low and the Pies had a shot at goal within 90 seconds anyway. It hardly affected a thing. Plus, the Blicavs htb was laughable.

iv) The umpire header is being treated as 'quirky' by the media. Imagine if it had denied Collingwood going forward.

I didn't really appreciate how much our draw opens up after the next couple of weeks. Tons of home games, and fixtures against teams we'd be expected to beat.

This is the hard part of our draw and we're 5-3. With a bunch of blokes injured and a fair chunk of our side still sub-50 games.

Not a bad place to be.

What is our record like over the past 20 odd years for games decided after the siren? Feels like whether it is us with the shot, or the opposition we win them all.
Harry Taylor missed one against the Bulldogs in 2018.

It’s funny that when I look back at that game, I don’t feel that it was one of those ones we blew. Bulldogs deserved the win that night.

Same last night, we bottled it in the last couple of minutes with some bad positioning and decisions, but aside from that our last quarter was so good it would’ve been burglary if Crisp had kicked the winning goal.

I don’t know why the two cats midfielders nearby didn’t join in the tackle to at least give a better impression of unable to get it out.

If Crisp kicked that, it would have been one of the moments of the decade. He really let himself down with that. It would have been a memory of a lifetime.

They would have talked about that play by play, not just at Collingwood (like how Geelong talk about the Hawkins one), but the entire AFL.

Lucky for us.
I listened to Crisps interview post match dead set decent bloke I'd be happy to have a beer with him anytime.

Would have been miracle on grass v 2.0

He is normally such a reliable kick too, but in his words he was gassed from trying to keep up with Dempsey's forward runs all night.

Agree that he comes across as a ripper bloke and has been a gem of a player similar to Duncan for us.

I'm on the record pre-season saying I had little enthusiasm for the footy year ahead - no discernible reason - and last week repeated the same sentiment.

But what happened last night has re-ignited a little flame.

What a game.

Danger was phenomenal, Clark improved a little more, Mullin was great, Duncan played well, Bowes came home strong, etc.

It's even more meritorious when you factor in the absence of Stewart, JHenry and Kolo, it being an ordinary game by Zuthrie, Humphries and SDK, and Stanley going down injured early.

They showed heart, fight, and a refusal to give up in the face of intense football.

It felt good waking up this morning.

Apart from the legging and the inclusive touch what are the bad frees that the pies had to suffer through? I didn’t think anything particularly stuck out - more that frees got paid to both sides that were there

So did i... i thought a bit more acting was needed there by Blitz TBH. He was hanging on with one arm to Cameron.

Blitz did what I'd expect would be the coached position in that circumstance hold the ball in don't let it get to the outside force another ballup stiff to be penalized.
