This this and this some more.
Mid tag every week or play someone better versed to play defence.

The real shame is Guthrie and Bruhn. Clark, Knevitt and Clohesy none of them will make it imo.

Cannot agree at all. Ollie was predictably poor when he came on.

Fluffed disposals.
Turning into traffic and turning it over with Stengle alone in the goalsquare 30m from the nearest player.
Again multiple times behind his opponent at marking contests, which while that can happen. Someone like Dangerfield would make sure to halve the contest. Ollie just gives up.

So while 10 touches for the quarter was an uplift from what we've been getting from full games I saw little that suggested form had changed. Very poor when he came on.
Worried he is a bit ‘dumb’ as a footballer.
A lot of dumb footballers make it up with effort and tenacity but not seeing that with Ollie.
Our delivery to him often doesn’t help though.

Definitely- it builds up to a crescendo, then the last game, and if lucky to win it, bonus, then the recovery and reset.

On one hand it'd be comforting to believe in a HTL because it'd give some explanation to whatever it was we dished up last night.

On the other hand we're grasping at straws and disrespecting the opposition.

When all is said and done, what's done is done.

How we emerge from the bye and attack the remainder of the season is crucial, and will be an interesting watch.

My son goes to all our games, and he reckons the Lions are the best team in it. Rarely do we get smashed , let alone at home. As some have said, this Lions team has that aura the Tigers team had in their era, but the Lions list is superior.
I have no issue with us losing to them, anywhere, and as with any loss, there are significant learnings from that game, unlike some of our recent games

Agree with everything said positive + negative. Frustrating.
Who cares about other sides especially t4 - t8 probables but we're not the first contender to get pantsed by another contender this yr.
I wish we had that nasty streak sometimes in our group today...When Rayner dumped Atkins for something in frustration that Axe did, no one fired up against Rayner. Fly the flag ffs...yeah the game was oot of reach. I like Rayner but he's cocky.

As much as i dislike Richmond , i think you are selling them way short , Brisbane could come up with the best of whatever , and the Tigers in their 3 peat days have got 6 goals on them

When Geel played Rich in that period , i never had a mindset that we would beat them

VD you are entitled to your view , but i think you can get carried away at times

Disagree.
Lions have to travel the country all season to win their flags- Tigers get away finals at the G until they (Dusty) beat us at the GABBA
And we did beat them in that era- 2017 at Geeloing, 2019 by 11 goals at the G

We've also beaten Brisbane in their 'era' including smashing them in the 2022 prelim and beating them at the Gabba as recently as last season (their flag year).

We beat their reserves side that night , they were decimated by injuries , how did we go when they got their A graders back

No wins, but we were in winning positions in a prelim, then a GF against them. Me saying I think the Lions list is superior to the Tigers is no slur on Richmond, and it could be inaccurate. After all, a team with Dusty, Cotchin, Riewoldt, Lynch, Rance, Houli, Prestia, Grimes and Vlastuin is excellent

Easy-we don’t play teams like Brisbane every week.
The Irish eyes have been smiling in most other weeks.

So what you're saying is we play them when they can downhill ski but when we need to them to step up against good teams...like in finals, they will go missing but that's ok?

It's only fair to mention that they played well against Collingwood and Gold Coast recently though. O'Connor received coaches votes both times, while Mullin stopped Daicos and Miller hurting us.

There was a consistent trend though, that in the heat of finals we could edge Richmond or stick close to them over a half, but not a full game. Ran out of puff each time and then the mistakes piled on.
Don't remind me.
It was nightmarish for a supporter who was terrorised by Tigers supporters in 67, 68, 69.
And they're building nicely now.
Their list will be brilliant and expecting more success in 3 years or so.

Whatever the reason for last night- and I suspect we were simply dismantled by a hungry, motivated superior team- there is no disrespect for the opposition.
HTL was just something that used to emerge when we had worse than predicted losses.

Our general forwards and wingmen last night:

Miers: 1 goal, 0 goal assists
Mannagh: 0 goals, 0 goal assists
Stengle: 0 goals, 1 goal assists
Dangerfield: 0 goals, 2 goal assists
Close: 0 goals, 0 goal assists
Dempsey: 0 goals, 0 goal assists
Martin (swung forward): 0 goals, 0 goal assists
Henry (sub): 0 goals, 0 goal assists

1 goal and 3 goal assists between those 8 players. 23 turnovers.

They're meant to be our point if difference. When they're off, we lose.

probably true- a fit Holmes and we may have won that game

Almost dead set fact, not probably true.
With Holmes playing we were 4+ goals up and playing all over them with Holmes BOG.
Once he went down they started to dominate us around the contest and on the spread, and we lacked the run and carry when it did go our way.
Even then we still should have won that late, but Holmes going down was the changing moment.

What many have pondered for a little while now. We play better at the G. Our game isn't as suited to Kardinia Park as it once was.
