Autopsy Cats lose to Saints by 7 points - should have been more

Can't remember the last time we came from behind to snatch a win in a close one, it seems like we always fall short due to a lack of composure in the 4th.

Our midfleld continues to be an issue. Our 2nd stringers aren't up to it.

I hope we acquire another A grader mid at the end of year.

To the half, Danger had 5 disposals. Holmes 6. Cameron 6. Close 5. Miers 3. Bowes 6. Dempsey 5. Henry 3.

These aren’t second stringers. They are our senior and experienced players. We were entirely let down by these guys failing to stand up.

In the first half, Clark 9. Knevitt 7 with 5 tackles, O’Sullivan 7.

Yes entirely the issue is the midfield, as it was in the third quarter last week. Totally out coached here, however, blaming the kids when they stood up more than the leaders is totally incorrect.

Caminiti had his back to the footy (no eyes on it) and 2 arms around. Always a free.

Caminiti was front on only for the last split second, but faced the ball for the most part. You can see Neale also holding, however I agree it is paid more than most and should have been here.

let me break this down for all cats supporters.

Losing a game against the Saints who are useless is a disgrace. This sort of game should have been a 5-6 goal win. The fact that we were clearly outplayed for 95% of the game is an indictment on us.

If you think I’m wrong, you’re an idiot and need to get help soon.

Tonight was a complete shit show!
It’s just a game go have a early night and sleep it off

Round 2 it’s not the end of the season

Poor first half

Kids good

Mullin, Bowes, close, Danger poor

You can’t doubt O’Connors endeavour but his decision making is terrible

Move on to next week

True but surely there is a player in a state league that could fit our needs... If Darcy Fort was here,he would be our starting ruck
For perspective, Fort was drafted out a state league in 2018 and started really getting a shot after what, 6 years in the system?

Unless you have a time machine to go back to 2021 to draft Ned Moyle you might be waiting a while

Hungus or simply hungo for short. Yep, I don't know about anyone else, but as a man in my early forties who grew up in Geelong, it was such a common term in the '90s for a kid who hogged the ball.

As good as he was for us, Menegola had that nickname in our house, maybe we old. Always took the shot.
So did Stevie J - but that was more humourous, because he at least would give the impression he was looking around to pass it, with no intention of it :) Hungers, and we were glad of it often. LOL.

He stood up more than Dangerfield, Holmes and a few others when the chips were down.

Yeah, the chips were down early when he had gas in the tank. He has a really good quarter in him, a quarter where he's second to the contest, half a quarter where he's plodding, and a quarter and a half where he's on the bench.

I don't know what he has to do to improve his endurance but he has to do it

Watching the game and the way teams are countering us even a bit last year is through control and uncontested marks. Stk did this very well but it certainly doesn’t help when you are second to the ball and losing every 50/50. Our pressure an effort was totally and we looked like we had a soft kill the week before. Despite how bad we were we still had enough chances to win. Too many had really bad nights.

I thought Blitz was absolutely superb tried his guts out, played everywhere. Lawson was great again and stands up against the tide. COS was great and is showing heaps. Clohesy added grunt and helped us halve some contests. I thought we just didn’t have enough winners and we leaked easy goals to often. Frustrating loss

Exactly how we tried to contain Richmond, but against us it works

Oh the ironing

You're only a hungo if you miss the shot or get caught holding the ball. 😏

I like this because you brought up 'Hungus'..I made a thread about that term a while ago and got lampooned with nobody claiming to have heard it before. Makes me feel better despite the loss.
Hungus is the most widely used term on a Geelong school footy field for people of a respectable vintage!

Run Forest, run.

We’ve got one of the best endurance athletes that’s ever played AFL. One who’s had the experience of just missing the cut on the Olympics.

Get him to live with Blitz and run his heart out.

I've been saying that since Fort's last season with us when he was regularly in the bests in the VFL but never picked for the seniors. Then in 2023, a year in which we were reduced to plopping Gary Rohan in the ruck at times, we could've got Sam Naismith in the mid season draft. He'd have been handy for three or five games towards the end of 2023. Instead we recruited Mitch Hardie who we also, for unfathomable reasons, never had any intention of playing in the seniors.
Naismith was shot physically.

Get used to it, we are going to spend a lot of time wishing we had a better ruck this year.

Hate to say I told you so.
Putting forward lesser rucks as alternatives or Nankervis who wasn't going to move isn't the told you so you think it is.

That's just echoing what most would agree with and that's a better ruckman would help us.

Calm down a bit yeah

I doubt there's a Geelong supporter who walked away from tonight's game doing cartwheels, but folks are allowed to try and find positives from the match - and looking at how some of our youngsters played should be seen as good signs going forward

Not sure the third paragraph is necessary or really adds anything to the discussion - though it could be seen as somewhat insulting to supporters and unnecessarily add fuel to the fire when it's not needed

Conveniently leaves out his absence last week after fiercely putting forward Liam f**ing Reidy as an option we should have went for lmao.

I'm talking about our 2nd stringers in the midfield.

I'm not talking about the rest of the team.

Atkins, Bowes, Moc etc aren't up to it is what I was getting at.
