We got rolled again by that blonde umpire..Nathan?? He often does us dirty in games from memory . How many holding the balls did they get away with?? Unreal.

The league should have a better way of evaluating umpire biases, in my opinion.

Measure an umpire's frees for and against each team throughout the years. The longer they work, the better the data.

Contrast their data with the league average for all other umpires. Any striking anomalies makes umpire X less likely to be given games with teams they have perceptual biases against.

It's a real thing and it's frustrating as hell. I follow NHL very closely and my team (which has been winning about 55% of it's games over the last 3 years) has lost 19 of 21 when a particular ref is involved in games, regardless of the opposition.

We have a good enough grasp on data analytics these days to be able to do away with people who are shit at their job.

Nathan Williamson. He's pretty poor. He's super quick to blow the whistle, and it's often for stuff he expects is about to happen and not what's he's actually seen. Last year's laughable howler against Stewart in the prelim was a good example. He expected Stewart to tackle the guy and had the whistle blown before Stewart had even laid the legal bump, then tried to backtrack saying "unreasonable!" Yesterday he was adamant that Dempsey had kicked it out on the full, when the replays showed conclusively that it came off the Suns guy's shin. He just sees what he wants to see. Williamson is not up to it and I'm not sure why he keeps getting games.

2 takeaways from the game that were dodgy and frustrating

1. Mac Andrew held onto Cameron all night with no frees paid

2. Rowell is a dirty bastard, he was giving Clohesy little punches all night even in front of the ump and nothing paid, i was yelling at the ump infront of me to watch it

Sorry but this would be "make up frees" on steroids. Having our work judged by data analytics makes pretty much all of us worse in our vocations. Workers everywhere gotta fight that.

Glad he is okay. My neighbour told me this morning he heard me call out "Stewy just killed a man" which I did in fact yell at the time. Classic hip and shoulder from Stewart.

Interesting you mention the inexperienced players. We actually had more players with less than 100 games experience on the park than the Suns did.

And the sub 100 gamers they do have are mostly guys like Andrew, Humphries, Lombard, Flanders, and Walter. Highly talented kids taken top end of the draft. Uwland and Clohesy are the only twi you can say they picked up and turned into players.

COS aside ours are all post pick 30s like Dempsey, Humphries, Mannagh, Neale, Mullin and Clohesy.

A bit of a left field takeaway, I was very impressed by 20 year old T. Clohesy. Played on Rowell and did a pretty reasonable job. Got 15 disposals, 4 clearances, he’s developing rather nicely. I’m putting his in front of Clark at the moment, but both need time and perhaps Clark just needs more time in the vfl.
