Three-quarter-time from Footy Park, and a seven-goal third term has the Cats in touch.

Adelaide 12.11 (83)
Geelong 9.6 (60)

Welsh scores another goal at the siren for Adelaide, but Corey Enright and Ronnie Burns becoming bigger factors for Geelong.

-William

Rundown of the goals...

Adelaide-- Welsh 4, Johnson and Burton 2 each, Bode, Doughty, Fitzgerald and Stevens one apiece.

Geelong-- Burns 2, Bartel, Clarke, Corey, Lord, Mooney, Riccardi and Scholl 1 each.

-William

The final quarter begins, and Adelaide making their statement with a major and minor score.

Adelaide 13.12 (90)
Geelong 9.6 (60)

The hosts starting to pull away again, five minutes into the final term.

-William

Scholl scores a goal, pulling one back for the Cats-- but they're still 25 points adrift.

Adelaide 13.13 (91)
Geelong 10.6 (66)
Nearly nine minutes gone, final term.

Fitzgerald scores another goal for the Crows, extending the hosts' margin back to 31.

Adelaide 14.13 (97)
Geelong 10.6 (66)

10 minutes gone in the final quarter.

-William

Crows top the century mark on the night, with Goodwin the goalscorer (I believe).

Adelaide 15.13 (103)
Geelong 10.6 (66)

15 minutes gone, 4th quarter, and the game slipping further and further away from the Cats' reach after a promising third quarter.

-William

The Crows' Tyson Edwards scores his first goal of the night, extending Adelaide's lead back to 37 points.

Adelaide 16.13 (109)
Geelong 11.6 (72)

Almost 20 minutes gone, 4th and final term.

-William

Minor score for the Crows almost immediately after Edwards' goal. The hosts' lead is now 38 points.

Adelaide 16.14 (110)
Geelong 11.6 (72)

-William

One major and one minor score bring the Cats' deficit back to 31.

Adelaide 16.14 (110)
Geelong 12.7 (79)

And that's full time!

Seems like the Cats showed some promise against a contending side, but just enough improvement to (a) get off the bottom of the ladder, it would seem, and (b) show that a chemistry is beginning to come together.

Any other thoughts?

Cheers,
William

you_idiot,

There were some very positive signs tonight...

1.) Geelong showed great character after being totally thrashed in the first half to come back and make a contest of the game.

2.) James Bartel looks like he's going to develop into a quality player for our club, getting some good possessions and although he gave away a 50 metre penalty, I really enjoyed his game... probably the highlight of the season so far!! :)

3.) Gary Ablett Jnr. got some good touches tonight and looks like he will also be a good player for us in time.

4.) Joel Corey and Corey Enright are developing nicely for us and look like being quality players for us... both still so young.

5.) Steven King played well tonight... good to see him returning to some good form.

Go Cats!! :)

Well said, SeinDude. But I would like to add a couple of things to what you're saying...

Too true-- but still, it's a shame they could not capitalise on that momentum they should have carried over from the third term. Granted, however, this is both a young team and one with some important newcomers, and that is a trait that follows with both experience and chemistry. It will develop in due time.

Sounds like this might have been the turning point in the game, Bartel giving away the 50-metre penalty?

Just as we all have been saying about Junior. Very promising first term from him.

The learning curve definitely exists on these two-- and (dare I say it) they might be progressing faster than Ablett Junior himself.

A good omen, indeed, but King needs Ronnie Burns to serve as an adequate foil as well, if the Cats are to put together an array of wins on the trot to turn the season around in the early going.

Cheers,
William
