Honestly you are all getting caught up in Macaffers 1 goal.
His mark, which he missed the set shot, was very lucky and should of easily been spoiled, 99 out of 100 would of been spoiled.

Rewatch the match. That's about all he did, and he played forward all night.

He will be dropped if Josh or Scott get up, he is our least experienced.

Confirmed beyond doubt now, I was skeptical after your first post, but I can now say with confidence that you didn't actually watch the game :thumbsu:

Good effort though making some changes off your gut instinct, impressive :D

I acknowledge he played well, but who would you drop for Josh and Scott?

It's a match up call you douche, Leigh Brown WILL play defence all day against Geelong, so having 8 defenders would be stupidity. I explained that already, so now it's your turn, pick your Ins mate.

And we will see what the match committee does.
I made my decision based on knowing that he would be the 8th defender vs Geelong, and therefore, unfortunately, dropped.

Can't defend against Geelong, we need to kick a score.

You need to kick a score against any team, why is geelong any different? You also need to keep the opposition to a lower score.

Personally I don't think Scott will play unless we make the GF so it would be Wello out and Fraser in. (Davis needs a kick in the arse and made to play permanent midfield)
If Scott comes in - perhaps Lockyer off tonight's performance. MaCaffer would be the one out tho because Josh would be in to play mainly forward. Caff was pretty good tonight but the Sack was a lot better and cannot be dropped after a career best game where at one stage he and Sidey were our only players who looked relatively composed.

if we're talking form and not reputation, then leon davis would have to come under consideration. was woeful again tonight.

was also very disappointed with his chasing and tackling. in the 3rd quarter when the whole team lifted in intensity, his intensity was still lacking.

there was one incident where bernie vince got it on defensive side of the wing and davis was about 20 metres behind him.. davis jogged for the first 8-9 steps before deciding to sprint chase.. by the time vince kicked it he was probably about 60 out and davis was only about 5 metres short. had he started the sprint earlier when he should have, at worst vince would have had to rush his kick..

very poor pressure from davis.

Davis is carrying something, no two ways about it.

Out: Wellingham, Brown
In: Beams, Fraser

That's if both are up. But Wellers should go for some soft effort. Medders won't go but is very borderline, and Leroy probably wont go either.

In reality I suspect we might have:

Out: Wellingham, McCaffer
In: Beams, Fraser.

If you heard Malthouse after the game

a) No risk with injuries - you dont want to go in with anyone who has a slight doubt - 22 players need to run out the game

b) Macaffer would have been in our team round 10(well one of the rounds)..but he got injured against weribee..so i dont think he would be too keen on dropping macaffer

I reckon

Ottens is not up to scratch - he killed us in the that last prelim - having said that - wasnt it that dud rucking for us ? I reckon Wood can handle him..So can Fraser...Both Wood and Fraser playing can be good for us...so whatever the ruck situation..cant really be bad for us

If Pendles/Beams comes in - i think Wellingham would miss

In: Dawes, Fraser, Stanley, Clarke
Out: Davis, Anthony, O'Bree, Brown

Stanley won't come in, but could he be any worse than O'Bree?

I would normally agree with you guys that you don't drop a bloke like Medhurst for a final, but the last two weeks have been finals and he has offered nothing. He stepped up his defensive work a bit tonight, but it wasn't enough.

Our young blokes are the heart and soul of this finals thrust, Sidey, Sack, Caff and Dick are all blokes that aren't assured spots in the team and played like that didn't want to give up that chance. I would definitely keep Caff in over Medhurst at this stage, reputation means nothing. McCaffer clearly wants to be out there and he proved that tonight, he also has the ability to play up the ground a bit which is what hurts Medhurst so much in this form slump. You can't maneuver him and force him into the game because he is so one dimensional.

Medhurst probably won't be dropped because it has probably been left a bit late now but I'd much rather see us lose the final playing with the spirit and vigour these young blokes have then carrying in a viciously out of form and out of touch player in the mould of Rocca and Medhurst.
These guys can clearly cope on the big stage and they are in far better form, they deserve to play. I don't like the precedent it sets at our club if we continue to select guys because of the 'potential' they have to turn it on or feats they achieved in the past. He has had his two finals to kick the trend and prove he can come back and perform on the big stage and it hasn't happened.
Give the chance to someone who actually wants it.

Good to hear. Might just be Josh for Wellers then, but if Beams is fit, would he come in?

I don't mean Beams for Cafe either.

Really, Leigh Brown was bloody good, and we need him against Ottens, Hawkins and Mooney.

Anthony kicked the winning goal, no one has ever been dropped after that, and our structure would disintegrate without him.

O'bree was brilliant tonight, back to his old hard, clearance winning self.

My changes;

In: Fraser, Pendlebury:eek:

Out: Medhurst, Goldsack.

Tough outs, but its a prelim, wouldnt be surprised to see Goldsack, Wellingham, Medhurst or Davis out, even just for that "winning formula".

Medhurst worries Geelong.

Yeah your right, didn't watch it at all. What happened?

Also, Davis can't out mark a player 4 inches taller than him so he must be carrying something? lmao!
He was sprinting fine, even in the last quarter.

Players are always going into the next game with bruises and bumps.
We are 2 weeks from the end, so they are all going to have sore muscles, it's not an injury though.

And for this reason, Geelong will destroy us next week.
Bring Rocca in just to knock out Chapman and Ottens!! DO IT!!!

Disagree with this. I thought his 3rd quarter was good but other than that he still struggled. He wasn't disgusting but he is still a fair way off his best for mine. Hi missed pass to Medhurst was criminal as well. Having said that, he will not be dropped because he is so important structurally. I thought Lockyer was terrible tonight tho. He got a fair bit of it and effected some impressive spoils but looked lost just about every time he had it.

Can not doubt Medders work rate tonight... being one of my favourite players I watch him closely. He ran, he tackled, he was constantly leading and was in space. He was either not seen or had the ball poorly disposed to him.

Honestly, Medhurst's work rate was as high as anybody's.
He's out of form, yes, but you can't question his effort.

His work off the ball was decent tonight (and so it ****ing should be, he hardly ever leaves the 50), but it certainly wasn't in the weeks leading up to it. It is a big difference to say JA, who works his arse off defensively, multiple times he finds himself in the back half of the field applying pressure. Even though he isn't getting his hands on it much, I think he is working a lot harder to still try and have an impact.

Medhurst (to me) seems to only really be willing to bust a gut when he is putting himself into a position to score a goal, which then as of late he seems to consistently end up fluffing.

I call bullshit. Medders often pops up in the midfield or at the defensive 50. Medhurst is a hardworker and his seconds efforts are almost always up there.

We won, why didn't you look it up?

And nah, he is carrying an injury because he is carrying an injury. Not rocket science.

It would be impossible to find the specific stats on it, but I would say the dramatic shift in his TOG spent in the fowardline : TOG spent in the middle in the last month would be a pretty clear outline where his body is at.

Professor Knowall posted this week saying both Leon and Medders are carrying injuries.

Medders will return to good form, but clearly his niggle is inhibiting his abilities.

I'd drop Caf (very stiff) and bring in Fraser. He should spend most of the game in the forward as he has the potential to kick 4 or 5 goals.

Pendles said on SEN before the game that he is a chance. If he does come up, I'd drop Wellingham.
