Is this stupid??? Why would i rather play Richmond during the day instead of night time... For some reason Richmond looks more dangerous if they play at night time:huh::huh:

Stewart out, O'Connor in. Keep the three pronged forward line and bring in a smaller defender. I'm also happy with House if we want to go a bigger option, but I dread it will be Jones in and Henry to go back.
At least make players earn their stripes in the VFL first! O'Connor, really?

If we needed to go with Henry up forward (and, to be honest, I'm really not sold on that), then at least there's Thurlow in the VFL, with Richmond playing such a small forward line.

In: Thurlow
Out: Stewart

Henry to Rance.

Geelong by 19 points.
This was what I was thinking too - but with the caveat that if Rance starts to monster him - and he may well - we can swap that out for Henderson.

The other challenge is going to be how to nullify their attacking midfield types - Scott Selwood picks himself, I'd probably also like to see Guthrie pushed slightly further up the ground for that reason. Thurlow in allows that for mine.

If you think we can beat Richmond or make a GF doing what we're doing then fair enough, i can see why it makes no sense.
If you don't then why not try something else for a game?
What makes no sense is repeating the same things and expecting different results.
We went fairly close, but we just lacked the requisite polish. We do look a lot better now than we did at the time, too - Stanley is playing far better, our midfield seems a bit more balanced, Hawkins is in career-best form, our forward line seems to be tackling a lot harder.

I’d be happy to be within 12 points at final siren and no injuries. Out Stewart. In Ablett Snr. (I think he’d still love playing Richmond).
Best pure footballer that I've ever seen and saved his best for the poor old Tiges.
If he did come back at least he wouldn't kick 14 ... probably only 7!

Yes, O'Connor. Has put together an underrated year in the VFL, was reasonable in the seniors earlier this year and is a better suited type of player to go against the Tigers (with a greater chance of making it at Geelong, too).

I agree with the first paragraph although I think Henry will more than hold his own.

Guthrie stays back for mine. He’s not performing anywhere near his best but we must simply cross our fingers and hope that he finds form (not the most convincing plan, I know). We’re already lacking run and carry from defence and Stewart out only exacerbates the problem. Bews gives us nothing offensively so hopefully Thurlow, Guthrie (and Tuohy), can provide the run and carry.

This game has really bad decision by MC written all over it, I’m thinking Zuthrie or Buzza come in.
People say this kind of thing every week, and it's rare that genuine left-field selections actually eventuate. Both Zuthrie and Buzza have been break-in-case-of-emergency this year - unfortunately, due to all those injuries, the aforementioned emergency has happened a few times.

Tackling didn't really come into that game as a factor, when well over half of our I50s were marked by Richmond.

I like the sound of 2E, Thurlow, Bews and Guthrie with Hendo and Blitz against Richmond’s forwards, a few on here didn’t rate their small forwards last time and look what happened.

From what I've seen O'Connor is definitely quicker than Thurlow but more importantly has a much bigger tank (one of the best at the club). O'Connor's a much more natural defender too. I reckon Thurlow could be found out by the tigers forwards and I doubt he'd have the time and space to use his kicking effectively. O'Connor's done a thorough apprenticeship in defence at VFL level and almost every comment about him had been positive. He's been in the best quite a few times as a shutdown defender too. This is the perfect time to give him a crack I reckon.
Correct me if I am wrong, But I was told Thurlow is in the top 10 players for there quickness at the club, I'm not saying O'connor isn't, But more than happy to see how the Deer in the headlights would go, considering your comments are based on a natural defender who has done a thorough apprenticeship, I find the comments on Thurlow quite amusing, How quickly we forget, was nominated for Nab Rising Star of Half Back, I believe his choice would be to play his roll for same reason he was Drafted ( Half Back Flanker ) some people have suggested his papers are stamped, I think he may just thrive in a new environment.

A player who has shown absolutely zilch in any AFL game is suited to play against the best team and unbeatable team of the last 2 seasons? Playing O’Conner, Zuthrie and Simpson is a dead set liability on the field.

Stewart out Thurlow in. At least Thurlow won’t lose a game for us. O’Connor or Zuthrie can.

I watch vfl most weeks O'Connor is not ready, might get there one day but not yet.I just checked the vfl app to make sure I havn't missed anything, he's been playing half back/wing and averages 11 possies a game over last 3 weeks. My issue with Mark is he's green , hasn't got very good awareness, good aerobic capacity but definitely not quick + kicking is not great, I can't see what the people on here are on about as far as a senior recall, Zac Guthrie would be ahead of him on form BUT both miles and miles behind Thurlow on form, ability and game sense.

I am in full agreement on O'Connor.

Thurlow was the by far the best player in our last VFL outing before being held back at half time to be the emergency v Dees .

For me its Henry to continue up forward (his efforts so far have been just what we are looking for) and Thurlow to slot in to the defensive rotations.

Best team? At times. Unbeatable? Never.

Any player can cost you the game, if indeed an individual can. If you think Thurlow is somehow proof against being a vulnerability then that is your choice. I would not be inclined to agree.

Cant understand the posters who want Henry moved back - someone 6ft 4 inc who also helps out in the ruck - and has looked really good at CHF

Richmonds forward line - Short ( who can also kick the ball a mile ) Rioli Lambert Castanga Baker - i reckon all those blokes are well under 6ft - but are lightning quick

Geelong need another small backman like Bews but they havent got one - they have got an unbalanced list with a plethora of half forward flankers - McCarthy Parsons Gregson Jones Narkle Crameri Fogarty

Watched most of the Rich v Coll replay - Richmonds big advantage over Geel i think is that they have a pace advantage all over the ground - i want it wet Friday night - that neutralises Rich advantage

Playing the No 1 side in the comp and on any given week we rank between 4 and 10. Would be a boilover to win. Having said that it is obvious Scott is trying to play a more settled team as we get closer to the Play Offs. This has the effect of more consistency in our performance. With Stewart in I would have given us more of a chance also but I do NOT expect Hawkins to have as much of an impact in this game. If he kicks more than 3 will have played very well. Richmond will look to shut down Geelong and with our bottom 6 proven non performers in big games this will give the Tiges the Edge IMHO. I think we need to win 2 of final 4 and that is doable 70/30...winning 3 is 30/70 and winning 4 20/80. Like to be proven wrong but just cannot see Richmond being beaten by Cats next week. By the way I would put money on BewS getting more than 2 possessions.
:p

I would much prefer Thurlow in than Zuthrie or O'Connor, both have a lot of improvement to go before they should be considered for another game.

I'm far more relaxed and confident about us playing a team at the top of the table than I am when we're playing a bottom team. Tigers haven't looked amazing in the past couple of weeks. If the team brings the mindset they seem to bring to games these days that they're expected to lose I think we'll just pip them. Stewart out hurts, but the rest of the backs have been good too.

I'm backing them in for a 1 goal win. I'll probably be in hospital post-op feeling miserable and the stress won't be the best thing for me, but the euphoria will be if we win!
