Why couldn't McDonald cover Pearce? Just because he's playing forward now doesn't mean he can't play defence - that's been his primary role his entire career.

I think it'll be Draper though.

McDonald as an experienced key back and Aish after being BOG for Peel on the weekend are both no brainers IMO.

JLo likes to say horses for courses. Here's his chance to do just that.

Is Touk Miller playing more forward this year? Not having watched Gold Coast play on the weekend but heard him being interviewed on the radio post-game and they were asking him about that.

??? Aish leading disposals for Peel and in the best players.
He’s experienced and can slot in as it’s a role he’s been playing for the last 2 seasons.
He’s actually a winger/midfield but coaches put him back to free up Clark a few seasons back.

I am not sure 1 good game after several poor games, makes him ready for AFL.

The great unknown is whether they want to bring Darcy in as the bigger body ruckman against Witts. The coaches said it would be "horses for courses" i.e., matchup based. If that's true then it makes sense why Darcy was left out against Visentini, and why he might get brought in against Witts.

Personally I want them to give Darcy a mini-preseason leading into the bye and maybe try Darcy and Jackson against Xerri the week after. Means there is a chance that Witts gets ahold of Jackson this week though
They better not do that, Darcy will be absolute cannon fodder in Queensland in the wet. The Jackson/Voss combo works, stick with it.

Cos Driz should come in and we now need to send someone to half back. The Simpson injury is extremely annoying and inconvenient, not sure who else we'd bring in for that role
Banfield showed that it’s likely easier to fill the half back role than the defensive mid who provides two way overlap run.
The job on Butters was exceptional. The midfield will be where it’s won or lost.

It’s a crazy view but I would leave Jackson as the sole ruck. Place Darcy as the sub in case Witts is monstering Jackson. It’s unlikely to be needed but bring Darcy on late. Jackson stays on the field. A tired mid or forward to be rested for Darcy in the last quarter. If injury occurs will need to swap Darcy in to the key ruck role earlier.

He was also close to best on ground the week before. And I'm not sure you can use early season WAFL form as a guide with someone like Aish. It must be extremely difficult to be 100% motivated when it seems you have zero chance of playing AFL. Then our injury situation reaches a point where it does seem possible to get a call up, and lo and behold his performance lifts.

We have to bring someone into the 23 for Simpson. The only options are Aish and NOD, and the latter seems well short of match fitness.

also Voss more likely to get in Uwland's face, which i like

more worried about no Pearce to cover one of the Bens (King, Long) the latter especially is in good form

I don't really like the idea of a ruckman as the sub - if we get an early injury like last week with Simpson, you're screwed, as the ruckman can't play multiple roles. Banfield is a good sub as he can adapt to several roles.

There is literally zero reason for Darcy to play, forecast suggests possible rain, Jackson is in career best form, Voss is proving to be a capable foil. Bringing Darcy in messes up the whole structure of the team, only way Darcy plays again this year is if Jackson gets injured for mine. He's a backup ruckman on 700k a year effectively.

I think they will try the Jackson and Darcy structure again this year before committing to trading one out at the end of the year. I just don't think they'll try it this week

Anyone reckon Freo can win this?
Been in good form, should've won the last 3

1. Can we wins the midfield battle?

This is my big question. I think they will smash us in the middle.

2. How is our mid forward connection?

Simply put, do we kick to our teams advantage. Especially with Collins if you can move the ball quickly he can be exposed for pace. If you go slow, or kick to his advantage we won't score.

3. Can our defense hold up against the pressure, when it comes during the match.

At some point in the game, GC will get on top. Can we limit the damage with out Pearce, who is very unlikely to get the ban overturned.

Think we can win the midfield, for all Longmuir's faults, his preparation for this sort of stuff is elite.
He'll have the troops completely aware of what's coming.
If we have Jackson & Bolton in there, they are a handful for Hardwick and his men.
I reckon we win or b/even in the midfield

McDonald and Aish is a no brainer. Either banners or aish sub.

Aish is a good wet weather player.

I have hope Pearce may get off - there’s been so much recent angst with the AFL by the clubs and players, including about the tribunal system and haphazard approach to concussion. Maybe this will be when they right the course from an outcome based system.

Tags have been put on Serong and Brayshaw for most of the season, either one or the other, or both it seemed like against Port Adelaide.

Don't know whether Hardwick would tag or just go head to head. He might go after Bolton. We might tag someone.

Winning generates its own momentum. If you'd asked me 3 weeks ago I would have given us little chance but the boys must be feeling very good about not just beating but pretty much dominating two of last year's finalists in successive weeks.
We've got a red hot chance here

If they're going to trial it again, after the bye vs Xerri seems the logical move... if it doesn't work against him, then there is probably no other team it's worth playing them both against. Him and Gawn are literally the only two ruckmen that I think are too big for Dogga, he's got everyone else covered with his athleticism.
Gawn also pantsed Darcy earlier this season.

We are already super inexperienced, there is a tipping point, Aish is now in form ( played really well in wet conditions) and could actually help our circumstances. When Walker and Simpson are back he drops out but they will not be back for a long time. Or you put Wagner back to defense but his role in the middle is too valuable at the moment. Banfield the only other option but probably not his best position.
