Changes for Anzac Day

IN: Dawes, Reid
OUT: Fraser, Brown

My thoughts too. Basically we are carrying Brown and Fraser atm and there is no need to. Dawes really deserves the opportunity. Reid is probably a dicier selection given the Dons don't have the greatest KPF targets but I think Reid would play equally well on mid sized players anyway. I'd bring in Wood if he had enough fitness touch to be included as Jolly alone all day vs. Ryder Hille would have to be a worry.

B: Toovey - Prestigiacomo - Maxwell
HB: Shaw - O'Brien - Johnson
C: Didak - Swan - Wellingham
HF: Davis - Cloke - Thomas
F: Lockyer - Dawes - Medhurst
FL: Jolly - Pendlebury - Ball
INT: Sidebottom - Beams - Macaffer - Fraser

Please let this be side

Just on a slightly "off topic note",

ANZAC day medal prices just put up on CentreBet, loving some of the odds;

Leon Davis - $15.00

Paul Medhurst - $21.00

Going to back them both, hope for a big win and that the judges like the flashy players on the day.

Just had a mate put $200.00 on Medders.

That'll pay for my trip down for the three days, the bar tab and a couple of kilo's of prawns and bugtails to roll around in with the hookers.:D

Yeh like to see the sack (or Reid) and dawes in the side.

With Dawes when u go to the footy you want to see ur team have a big forward to kick to. That's why (on top of form, and the gap in the side) that I rekon ppl (like myself) really want/ need him in.

I rekon Daisy'd be at a gud price.

Been saying for years we need to get rid of Fraser but this week we need him unless playing a second up Wood.

I'm inclined to agree. Until Wood has a few good games in the two's I'd be leaving Fraser to play second up ruck so Jolly can a spell from time to time.

Out: Brown
In: Dawes

No Change.

I can't see sweeping changes happening in a side that won last week by over 10 goals. Can't think of many who deserved to be dropped and the couple that are on the verge, don't have a replacement ready.

JA didn't play VFL so wont play this week (unless that was some sort of plan to get him right, I doubt it though), and I don't think Wood isn't ready to come back yet. Which means Fraser will have to stay. Besides he'll be fired up for this one, will want to make amends for last year.

And Dawes is severely overrated on this board. Average at VFL level does not make him a must pick at AFL level. I'm sure he will get a chance at some point this year. But I doubt he is the messiah that will save our forward line, as some people seem to think he is.

And I hope that Obree being omitted last week proves to everyone here that MM isn't just playing his faves. I think Obree will struggle to get back in all year unless we have injuries.

If Dawes was very close to playing last week, then after a BOG performance in the VFL this week and Leigh Brown struggling I think he is all but locked in to play this week. No better way to cement your spot in the line up then a 5 goal haul on the big stage of Anzac day.

Ins - Dawes
Outs - L.Brown

They will have a few big ins this week I think. Stanton, Monfries, Davey, McVeigh and Prismall. Will really strengthen their side.

OUT: Brown
IN: Dawes

I think we need to bring in one of Reid or Goldsack to play on Gumbleton, but I don't know who to omit. Presti to take Hurley, O'Brien to exploit the lazy Williams, Maxwell to take the resting Hille [iffy matchup, almost tempted to keep Leeroy in for this]. Harry could take Ryder if he plays forward, and Toovey to Williams. Shaw to Monfries. Davey is a tough matchup, possibly Johnson? We also need to watch Reimers, he is looking dangerous up forward.

Stanton should get some attention, not a hard tag but we need to curb his influence a little. We'll need Fraser to support Jolly, he won't be able to ruck all day against Hille and Ryder. If we can get the upper-hand in the ruck, our clearance players in Wellingham, Ball, Pendlebury and Swan should be able to control the midfield. Watson is a clearance specialist, but he just needs to be negated around stoppages, not so much around the ground.

It will be a tough first week for Dawes going up against Pears, who is a stellar young defender, but with good delivery he should be able to perform. Fletcher will probably go to Medhurst, Hooker to Cloke [no McPhee this time :D]. Their problem is matching up Didak, Davis and Thomas. These three guys must bring their A-game. If they do, we should get up.

In: Dawes, Reid.

Out: Fraser, Brown.

Need the extra tall backman for this week.

Agreed, but we also need Fraser to support Jolly, particularly if Brown is going out too. Who gets omitted if not Fraser? Because I certainly think we need another tall defender.

In: Dawes
Out: L Brown

Dawes is a more relaible target up forward, Brown is handy but just cannot see a viable role for him this week, other than a decoy forward to take a Fletcher or Pears out of the play.

Definitely need to retain Fraser this week, even though he has been down, as Ryder & Hille are an excellent ruck combo that will stretch Jolly.

L Brown and Fraser should go but I doubt either will.
Dawes should come in but without Brown and/or Fraser being dropped we'd be too top heavy.

I'm tipping no change.

There will be a debutant, there almost always is on ANZAC Day

interesting.. mark mcgough and travis cloke spring to mind.. not sure if it was there first game though. probably was.

hope i get to see this blight guy play. or blair would of been nice. with dawes in too.

We could use Cloke or Dawes to pinch hit in the ruck for a few mins each quarter.

Jolly is a good player and can ruck by himself which is pretty much what he has been doing in the first 4 games anyway.

What, you think players can only be omitted if a player who plays the exact same role is promoted? Doesn't work like that at all.

It does with ruckmen.

Going into a game against Ryder and Hille with only one ruck is just ridiculous. Fraser (or Brown) has to play just to provide a presence and help Jolly out - and hopefully run into a bit of form.

Bottom line, we are 3 and 1, and our one loss was only due to poor goalkicking.

It would be foolish to tinker too much at the moment with our gameplan or our structures and undermine what has been working so far. If Fraser goes out, like for like has to come in - ie Wood - who isnt ready yet. If Brown goes out, like for like has to come in - ie Dawes - who is overdue for selection. If Toovey goes out, Goldsack comes in. Etc etc etc.

etc etc etc.

I repeat my preferred option

In Dawes
Out Brown (or Fraser as a second choice)

In: Dawes, Reid.

Out: Fraser, Brown.

Need the extra tall backman for this week.

Agree with this with Hurley, Gumbleton as key forwards and Ryder spending more time up forward with Hille back in the ruck.

However I don't think Fraser is the one to be omitted, I rather keep the two ruckman. A small might have to come out of the team.

OUTS: Leroy, Toovey, Lockyer
INS: Dawes, Goldsack, Reid

Leroy simply has to go. 1 "ok" game and 3 shockers in every 4 is simply not good enough. Fraser can't go out this week because Hille/Ryder is top quality and Wood isn't ready yet. I'm thinking Jolly in the ruck while Hille's there and Fraser to ruck while Ryder is. In the second game against Essendon last year Fraser game Ryder one of the biggest all-round rucking beltings I have seen in years and I want him to be given to chance to repeat the dose. Also, after Anzac Dat last year I think he will be stung and desperate to make amends. Let's not forget that he is still adjusting to a new role. I think if he hasn't turned his form around by about round 8, bring in Wood but until then or at least when Wood is fit, Fraser stays. Dawes is the one who should come in simply because he is a tall forward in form and we lack one ATM (Cloke is playing well but is more of a high half forward than a KPP). Anthony is easily in our best 22 and once he has regained some touch, will probably come in at Macaffer's expense (or Dawes if he doesn't perform).

I love Lockyer but if he is going to play back pocket then surely Goldsack is a better option? I don't think we can play both of Lockyer and Macaffer in the same team and although I hope Lockyer is back and playing well for finals (easily in our best 22 in form), Macaffer is easily out-playing him at the moment. Toovey simply has to go as he is absolutely woeful at the moment. Reid is needed as an extra key back this week. He is in form and played well in the Melbourne game.

EDIT: Also, to those suggesting "no change" because we won last week, were we perfect last week? Thinking a flawed win is enough is how teams never take the step from 3-5 to premiers. Making those small tweaks is potentially how we go from being a very good inconsistent side to a powerhouse. Yes we won and yes we played well but certain players played badly and we need a forward that can fix straight. If we have problems we fix them and I don't think the fact that we won should have a bearing on those decisions at all. Improvement should be perpetual and if you use a single win as a reason to stop it then you are in trouble.

In: Dawes, Reid
out: brown, mcaffer

harsh on mccaffer but he's the only one I can think to drop to get the two big guys in. Caff has played alright. But nothing to set the world on fire. For that and that alone I chose him. Reid goes to chb in his place.
Brown brings a physicality to the side. It's great. I love it. But he's giving far to many frees. If he doesn't get dropped and Dawes doesn't get a gig though, I wouldn't mind. I would however be excited if Dawes played... I'm just keen on throwing my anzac day party
