I get the feeling Eddy will drop out and Young will take over that role. Young's spot will then go to someone like a White or a Krakouer. Pittard will replace Amon or S.Gray imo.

Yeh. They do not show footage of why Ryder was put to ground. Ryder made a bee line for him in what looked a clear response to a prior incident. If Ryder hit him in the face, then he is in a bit of trouble, but the vision looks unclear. Looks like Knight's view will play a role in the outcome.

There's a full video on the umpiring board. Shows Knights running into Ryder while Ryder is looking the other way, their heads clash which is what Ryder was responding to.

There's a whole lot of gnashing of the teeth going on on the main board. One Sydney poster is champing at the bit to have Paddy hing drawn and quartered.

Chiwigi is totally right about Butcher, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be giving Eddy a sustained opportunity at least until Howard is fit and ready to come in.

I can't wait until Howard is fit for AFL.

Not putting any time expectation on when he'll play AFL but I hope he gets called up to the Maggies after his promising return via the Academy.

The fact he can play forward, back and a bit in the ruck will be great for the AFL side.

Westhoff on a wing is not working. He either goes forward for Eddy or goes back for Trengove and Trengove goes forward. Pittard for Amon I am happy with. I love Sammy Gray, but giving Ahchee a go is worth the punt.

If Robbie needs a rest, imply stays as defending forward and bring back Sammy in the thinking.

So Knights goes to hi Ryder and hits him high. Great.

Westhoff isn't really a KPP though.

He plays well as a loose defender in the hole and as a tall flanker at either end, but he can't play a KPD role and he's only a pseudo KPF.

Some have said that his lack of role hurts his consistency, but he's been inconsistent for a decade.

I hope we get to the point where he's struggling to keep his spot but at the moment Hinkley trusts his incumbents and Westhoff still provides a difficult matchup and opposition sides still have to worry about him.

That's the point. There was no need to get rid of Butcher and bring in a slightly worse and older replacement.

Butcher only ever got 31 games ffs!

Can you really not see the hypocrisy in lamenting the lack of chances for Butcher and then justifying that by comparing his stats to a three gamer?

When they've both played at state league level, Eddy showed over a long, long period of time that he was a better player than Butcher. Eddy has three years of SANFL stats putting him well ahead of Butch, and three weeks of AFL stats putting him slightly behind.

At some stage you are going to have to accept the fact butcher wasn't and will never be good enough. totally unpickable for a large chunk of his time here, couldn't be trusted 20 out in front of goal, which only improved in his last year, I'll give you that, he could have played more in 16, fair enough. I enjoyed watching him at the pies though....
Eddy is a much better footballer and in time I'm backing him in to prove it.

Young was very lucky not to break an arm or should blade when dumped in the southern left forward pocket in the 1st term.

Pretty sure he damaged a shoulder though. Wouldn't be surprised if he missed.

He'll go for that, not much in it but off the ball is enough. Stupid undisciplined act that will cost the team. Get ready for LOBSTER:drunk:

Personally I think Westhoff is the embodiment of Ken's pick the player not the role philosophy.
He seems to want to change the gameplan to suit Westy rather than the other way around.

I still think Westy's best role is third tall forward but we don't like playing enough talls forward to have a third.

But feel...

And with no injuries reported from either of Port Adelaide's games AFL or state league games this weekend, both sides will continue to have ample players to choose from.

That means we should be fine right? ;)

Absolutely, it's kind of my very poorly expressed grumble.

Great post. Can't we just move on and assess Eddys performance with the proper perspective? He's finding his feet and we are still tinkering on how to use him best.

I know many like Eddy and structure but if Ken is only going to use Eddy for 60% game time, then I think it's better to put in a midfielder who can play some forward that would play a lot more than 60%.

It's not Eddy's fault, it's just that he's not utilized enough.

I'm not sure Eddy is fit enough, or maybe prepared enough for how fast and contested the game is at AFL level.

I reckon Eddy for Pittard, and Amon for White is the go with Trengove to play up forward again please.

Not this week, but by the end of the season I'm hoping to see the following...

Frampton to come on enough to replace Westhoff in the 22

Atley to come in for S Gray

I agree we need to give Eddy time and games, but playing KPF in the SANFL is totally different to playing KPF in the AFL.

His SANFL dominance is effectively meaningless. Who was the last dominant over several seasons SANFL KPF to make the step up to AFL level and have a cromulent career? Hodges?
