Next week i would like us to take some risks in selection.

Hopefully Maric will lift at training this week and be selected against the Weagles. That will enable us to play Tippett more down forward and give us some more flexibility with our talls.

Riley could be out for some time if he is broken his hand or arm. We may need to call upon someone for him - hopefully Knighter but I would suggest he may be out for sojme time based oin previous history associated with his thigh. Any thoughts?

I was quite happy with our rucks after quarter time. Got their hands to the ball when the umps bounced the ball straight, but quite loose when the opp had the ball at times.

Porps was a revelation in the middle after 1/4 time. How many hard ball gets did he get? He must stay there next week.

Disappointed with VB. He had a poor game by his standards.

Liked the continued improvement of Douglas and thought Mackay showed some very good signs for his first game.

Shirley has been down on form since the start of the year, but given injury to Riley will be unlikely to get dropped next week.

Vince made two bad errors that both cost goals - both poor kicks - one errant pass to a player in the corridor and one kick ot nonone out of defence in th last quarter. He did some reasonable things but he will need to improve. He may be on the selectors minds this week.

Massie may need to come under consideration next week. Stevo could go back on the talls if needed. One thing is for certain Shirley must never play back again.

I must say though in defence of our coaches - there may have been few options left on the bench. A few players looked quite stiff and sore and relly had his arm in a sling.

Shirley/Doughty out (I'd lean towards Shirley)

Maric in.

(This assuming Knights isn't fit)

In: Maric
Out: Shirley

Shirley hasn't looked near it, even in the NAB. He's a step off the pace. Although Doughty made some basic skill errors, he stood up in the first quarter when no one else did. Vince is on the cusp, but he needs to play to get some games into him. Vince really has the potential to crack it, just needs to be classier under pressure, which comes with matches.

Maric in, put Tippett and FF and see what he can pull out against West Coast.

Maric definitely needs to come in. We always get slaughtered by Seaby up forward - need that extra tall. I really wish Moran was available for this game. I suspect Shirley willbe the out although Craigy does love him and we do need a tagger for Kerr. Hopefully VB will be able to do the job on Kerr.
I definitely want to see Tippett play forward all game. He'll be a headache for any defence.

Vince needs to be put into the middle instead of rotting away on the half forward flank. The NAB games showed if he gets into the game early he generally has a good game. I don't know why he was on the HFF; get him in the middle Craig.

Also need to remember he's only played 11 games; I have no doubt he'll become a permanent fixture in the Adelaide midfield.

Out Shirley

In Knights

Possibly drop Vince, he gave nothing in my books. No idea who could replace him...Sellar maybe?

Reilly is fine.

He came back on after he went of to have a wrist strapped.

Arm was in a sling at games end ....and he was super careful not let anyone touch his arm.

I'd lean more to the conclusion he has a nasty injury

Reilly is fine.

He came back on after he went of to have a wrist strapped.
And went straight back off and didn't return. Didn't even play in the 4th quarter! Hardly the actions of someone that is "fine"

Hopefully its just a sprain and he is right for next week but I suspect it might be a fracture.

Gee - we're in a bit of trouble if Reilly and Knights are out for a while. If Reilly is injured and Knights is available:
In - Maric, Knights
Out - Reilly (inj), Shirley

On the AFC site, Xrays this week to determine whether fracture or not.

Didn't look good did it - according to the media he's having X-rays for a suspected fractured wrist.

After a virtually injury free pre-season the injury curse of the Crow strikes as usual when it counts.

Gill
Moran
Knights
Reilly

Just on VB one of the Bulldog players decked him behind play - Minson I think it was.

Did anyone else see that one?

Yep Minson also decked Reilly behind play. Apparently they changed the rule and you can do that now. Alot of rule changing happened today. You can also take the ball out of the ruck and if you get caught, its another throw up and you can also ride a player into the ground.

I'll clarify that for you, it was not holding the ball under the rules at all. If an AFL umpire has a shitter bounce he can call play on immediately and that allows any player not jsut the designated ruckman to contest the ball, if he does this then a player can grab the ball and get tackled and its not holding the ball.

Didn't macca fracture his wrist last year but play with a brace that had thick padding on it?

Reilly came back on the ground so fingers crossed he will play next week.

Lets get over the fact it wasn't called holding th ball, because it wasn't. It wasn't great that the umpire bounced very poorly on a few occassions, but by calling play on, it's play on, so lets get over it.

Certainly worried about Reilly, apparently landed on his wrist again when he came back on, and took no further part. Can't be too good. Hopefully he'll be right, but I'm not confident, IMO by years end if he remains injury free he'll be our best midfielder, so hopefully he'll be right. If not, hopefully Knights can come up.

Maric has to play this week, Tippett needs to be a permanent forward. But I'm not sure who comes out for Maric. If as many are suggesting Shirley does, we would have a very, very tall side. I don't think that would be all that successful against the still hard running Eagles. If Maric is to come in, either a tall back or forward must go out IMO. McGregor probably did enough, Stevens was great, Bock and Rutten are musts. So as hard as it is, IMO if Maric comes in the hard call has to be called on Bassett. He was very good for a half, but ran out of puff, so maybe a run in the SANFL would also be good for his fitness.

A fair bit of of pressure would have to be felt by Shirley, Vince and Doughty I would have thought. Need a few blokes knocking on the door to come in. But the Eagles still have a pretty handy midfield, despite losing Judd and Cousins, and a shut-down role could be required from Shirley.

IN: Maric, Knights*

OUT: Bassett, Reilly (inj.)

*If fit.

Thanks for that. I didn't know that.

No way, Basset is gun. So what if he doesn't have the fitness at the moment, use him off the bench. A harder call would be to drop Vince and replace him with Campbell IMO.

I don't think that would be that hard a call. Vince hasn't done that much and I'm not sure if he has really earnt his spot in the side.

I agree, Bassett is very good. But if Maric is to come in, which I think he should be, a tall should go out IMO. I'm sure many will disagree with me, but I think Bassett is the one I would choose at this stage, while his fitness is down. I would think in a few weeks we would probably look to pull Tippett out of the side for a few different reasons, and there'll be plaenty of opportunities, but I think we would be burnt by the Eagles if we brought Maric in for a small. That would give us Griffin, Maric, Tippett, Bassett, Rutten, Bock, Stevens, McGregor and Burton. IMO that is too many, especially when all do not demand selection.

personally im of the belief they should go down the same path as the SANFL and recall bad bounces but i guess then the games would go forever as it seems you dont have to be able to bounce to become an afl umpire.

One thing i wouldn't change for your team next week
is Jason Porplyzia.
Probably stating the obvious for you guys...but from an outside
point of view that guy is a star player.
I've heard him talked up in the past but due to his injuries
never really watched him that much. Today he was
really good for you guys and if he stays on the park could post
a few Brownlow votes.
anywho. Just an observation.
