I sit second level "Blair end" in the first quarter...............watched Blair closely..........cost us four goals.

Based on that performance he is a coach killer.

and The Coach Loves Him

Buckley mentioned after the Bulldogs game that from mid way in the second quarter they started rotating talls off the bench

Checking the gametime stats:

Cox: 69%
Grundy: 75%
Goldsack: 75%
Shade: 85%
Moore: 83%
White: 85%

These seem to confirm it, pretty sure these players would typically be expected to play more gametime than that? They probably took rotations off our mids, so our mids would have been more stuffed.

Does this imply that we got selection wrong last week? Against the Bulldogs in particular? (they're one of the more mobile sides ... surely we should have seen that coming?) Or in general? (Maybe we drop a tall this week?)

100% right.

Bucks indicated it worked to our advantage as our rucks were able to work over the Bulldogs.

However, this cant be a strategy going forward. You cant waste rotations on talls.

I think Grundy is the sort of ruckman that benefits from game time. He needs 90% gametime. He is a workhorse.

Its a long season so i dont mind it in r1 before players are fully match fit. But if Cox cant impose himself as a forward, then this isnt going to work.

I thought most teams were going to go with 2 rucks this year, but it hasnt panned out that way.

I think we can give it another chance, but if it pans out that we keep rotating talls, then we will just have to drop Cox and go with a smaller forward line. Mayne just has to play taller. Fasolo pretty much played as our full forward anyway.

Agree to disagree but if he hadn't made those stupid errors in the first, would still have him ahead of Mayne but my preference would be for either Elliott or someone else step up and omit both.

So one ruck and backup in White?
We only got Fasolo and Moore that could potentially trouble the defense or the scoreboard. Blair and Mayne certainly won't. Perhaps if we throw WHE up forward.
I wouldn't mind Cox against Tigers as probably he would get Rance. That leaves the lesser defenders for the others. Hopefully something we can exploit.

Nankervis played really well in the ruck and around the ground for the Tigers, seems a real find for them, only 8 possessions but kicked two nice goals.
Grundy should handle him though, I hope.

Elliott coming back will be huge obviously. Adds another really dangerous forward.

As i said, im happy to give Cox another shot, but i dont necssarily think it is the right strategy to keep rotating a tall off the bench. Especially while we have a lot of injured mids. We need to maximise our midfield rotations

He was emg for seniors iirc, so performed well the practice game before I'd assume?

Yeah, the one a fortnight previous.

And there's the killer, it was a fortnight ago, on return from yet another long term injury. You can maybe bring in one long layoff player like Elliott straight up (because Billy is good enough to make something of an instant impact) but not a kid like Broomhead, who needs a longer slower build...

The question is when?

I thought you were pro the Moore, Cox, White forward line?

rance goes to moore.

its a long year and playing cox lessens the wear on grundy but cox has to got kick 2 a game.

white was the best tall we had last week and he really is a tall flanker.

pendlebury in the F50 1/1 is almost unstoppable. sidey is in the best 10 small forwards in the game and plays wing.

wish they could rest forward.

Rance to Moore? And one of the lesser gods to Cox? I hope the umps pay chopping at the arms of Cox coz I don’t see how they could stop him otherwise.

They didn't vs Dogs and not sure we should be relying on that, just need him to lead into space and kick to his advantage then they wont stop him.

They paid holding and chopping of the arms to Josh Kennedy today at Etihad and he kicked 7. Cox plays in front so he should get 2-3 freekicks in front of goal every week.

Adams needs to learn how to kick and Howe needs to forward because he can turn it over in defence.

Out Varcoe (susp)Maynard

In Aish Broomhead
