Seriously though, I'm actually pretty pumped for this week. Hard to take anything from JLT really, this is the big dance, against a team that could be a genuine contender. This time next week we'll know if we are re-building or could actually compete for finals.

So much wrong in one post.

Not only is Watts a lock for round 1 but if you were going to question him skills and decision making would be the 2 last spots to start.

I just feel hes slow to react and doesn’t seem to make decisions quick enough, til he’s tackled. Maybe i’ll re-watch the game.

Our forward line can be the flying phallus.

Nah, Watts is definitely that type of player who the game seems to slow down for. Times his handballs really well.

No football on this week unfortunately

Surely Watts doesn’t get a Rd 1 spot, right?

(edit: maybe it’s just me that has no confidence in him - his decision-making skill still worries and angers me)

Yeah his 24 touches and a goal on the weekend was shithouse, spud delist

I don’t think there’s anything stupid about playing 3 18 year old debutants. Hope it happens.

We played three debutants last time we played Melbourne in Round 1 at the MCG. Worked out okay.

If we are deathly honest it's very unlikely, not impossible but unlikely that we are a threat this year. I'd be pumping games into our awesome draftees because it's exciting, fresh and it's what we need. It also puts them in a good place for the future in terms of fast tracking them. They'll have ups and downs and will likely tire as the season goes on but who cares. Let's do it.

We don’t play the kids regardless because we aren’t losers like Carlton, that’s why.

The kids get games on merit. When they have poor games they get dropped just like anyone else.

This won't happen though, atleast initially. They'll be given plenty of wiggle room for bad games. Right from the outset they were always intending to play the kids we drafted.

Wiggle room is fine. I’m talking about when a player like Mayes is consistently performing better than Duursma and selecting him is adversely affecting the chances of the team to the point where he’s being carried for games and not earning his place.

I’m all for playing them when all things are equal, but saying we’re not going to win anything this year is stupid. You never know what fate will throw your way...I bet Collingwood never thought they would reach a GF in 2018.

You pick your best 22 every week until it’s mathematically impossible to play finals. It just so happens that right now, our best 22 has all three kids in it. I’ve said before that the reason Wingard and Polec developed the attitude they did was because they felt their spot was never in jeopardy.

We don’t want to make that same mistake again. Youth gets them a bit more slack than others, but not “let’s tank our season to get games into these guys” slack.

Being a co-captain shouldn't save you from being dropped if you have a poor game. The reason why he won't be is because Jonas (and Wines) don't have poor games really.

He could, however, get suspended or injured.
That should be the case, yes! But we all know how Hinkley works now

This is not a Mighty Ducks* type of world. We'd have a season like Carlton's recent seasons. If in a few years Butters, Rozee and Duursma and Marshall (yes an earlier draft) turn out to be our equivalent of Geelong's 2001 draft I'll apologise then.

* disclaimer: I have never seen Mighty Ducks

Even if Ebert's form isn't fantastic his build as a taller, stronger marking target who can bring the ball to ground in the forward 50 will always offer more than Sam Gray can in the same position. If Sam Gray comes in it's for a high-forward like Rozee/Butters and right now both are ahead of him, or for an inside midfield position where we are stacked even with Wines and Atley injured. I've always stuck with Sam Gray but right now with this current team he doesn't stack up against the quality we have without a few injuries.

Would be extremely surprised to see Amon left out. Has been one of our best performed.

I could not have expressed that better. I'm a Sam Gray fan but if he gets back into the AFL team it won't be R1 and will be earnt in the SANFL. And he's down the pecking order a few more spots now.
