Watson is our best ODI player. He won't be rested

A bloke who's had 4 chances and hasn't taken one of them. If the Australian selectors are serious his age is irrelevant, didn't take his chances and not pick him again.
He's not test standard, simple as that
What an absolutely brain dead post.
If it was up to you we wouldn't have seen Hayden, Langer, Steve Waugh, Martyn etc they would of been discarded as well.
Chris Rogers should be a lesson that you never stamp anyone's papers (especially someone who is 25) as they may eventually develop later in their career.
Hayden had 2 chances and took the second, same with Langer, Waugh and Martyn. Not 4. 2. Buck is a completely different case. Hughes isn't test standard.

Apart from a dominant shield season........
I wonder what happens if they do rest harris, is he then given a proper rest till the SA tests?
Or is he given a few weeks off and then he plays 20/20 or one day cricket again this summer?
If he misses a test just so he can play shorter forms later this summer then i don't really get it.
No change, never try and fix what aint broke.
The common chorus of this discussion is that Bailey should be dropped, but I don't see the point when it's likely that he'll make way for arguably a more inept replacement. Whoever it is, what if he fails in both digs? Will we be once again knee-jerking and be begging for Bailey to return? Bailey's only 31 (which in my opinion is the equivalent of a mature aged recruit in the AFL in their mid-20s) and has only played 4 tests, so give him a ******* break./QUOTE]
He should have not been there in the first place. He was picked off the back of one day form and clearly doesn't have the technique for test cricket. He favours the onside and struggles terribly with anything on a good length outside off stump. There may not be batsmen knocking down the door but we could at least pick someone with a decent technique for test match cricket.
People seem to think we have all of a sudden solved all our problems because we have beaten an English side that has really been nothing short of pathetic. We should always look improving our side, especially considering we are about to play the best side in the world. Things will be different over there.
Steve Smith needs to find some consistency also or he will be under the pump. Has played some fantastic innings but they a few and far between at the moment. You can't hold down a test spot averaging low to mid 30's for too long. Saying that, I think he's worth giving time and will most likely make a test cricketer.

Langer comes to mind.I can't think of a batsman who has been dropped three times for form and still made it back to have a successful career.
Edit: How many times was Greg Blewett dropped? Got off to a flying start in the test arena with a century in each of his first two tests, and then only managed two more in a career of 46 tests.

I can only think of 3 chances (he got dropped unfairly in England in 09, he got fairly dropped in the Caught Guptill/Bowled Martin affair, and was dropped after losing 4-0 in India (why he got dropped first before Cowan is a joke in a poor under performing team).
r.
Matt Hayden debuted in 1994 at 22 (Hughes debuted at 20) and didn't cement his spot till he was 29 (India in 2001 was his breakout series).
Justin Langer debuted in 1993 at 22 and didn't cement his spot in the team till he was 29 (against Pakistan in 1999).
Damien Martyn debuted in 1992 at 21 and didn't cement his spot in the team till he was 29 (against England in 2001).
Steve Waugh debuted in 1985 at 20 and didn't cement his spot in the team till he was 28 (against England in 1993).
Are you seeing a pattern here? Your own argument just backfired on you and reveals your ignorance.
Hughes being dropped in the two ashes series that he did was a joke, IMO the only time he has deserved to be dropped is when he kept getting out to Chris Martin. Anyway, that's in the past.
I hope Doolan can grab his chance if he plays, I think we will go with.

I'd rather see Doolan in for Watson, play it safe with injuries.
There's a difference between this and having his 'papers stamped' (not sure if you said that, but someone did). It's now Hughes' turn to do what they did: pile on the runs for a couple of years before getting another cap.
